Hi,It seems that it doesn't matter where I start, fly to or reset to, I am in the middle of a thunderstorm!! I can refresh the metars to my hearts content and nothing changes.I took off from Newcastle,UK last night and although the downloaded metar said nothing about thunderstorms, I was sat in one. I live here and there hasn't been a thunderstorm here for months. I flew to Belfast Aldergrove, according to the metar it should have been a nice night. On approach I was flying into another thunderstorm.Don't get me wrong, a thunderstorm is a lovely phenomena, and they make life interesting and look quite good in the sim BUT I don't want to fly in a constant thunderstorm!!Can…

Hi there,Just signed in on the forum to post a question:"New weather display technology finally brings smooth cloud transitions to FS! Some breakthroughs have been made in the cloud display and transition department, resulting in pleasingly smooth transitions and consistent representation in most conditions! Cloud layers will slowly form and dissipate realistically over time. Never again will you see the entire sky suddenly go clear and cloudy again without warning!"The above is what I read on your website. I use the program (version 1.7) for a while now, but although I have the settings for the program and FSUIPC as described in the manual I still get very sudden weathe…

I posted this a while ago, but didn't get any feedback, so I thought I'd give it another go.I'm not familiar with what is possible with FS and FSUIPC, so if this won't work, please let me know.I'm a fan of historical weather. I enjoy downloading metars when the big blizzard comes up the east coast, or there's a tornado outbreak in the midwest, etc. and loading them up at a later date to experience those conditions again. I like flying in a good snowstorm in august. 1.) I'd like Active sky to download metars with a date appended to the filename such as 220503-20z.wrx instead of just time to make archival of weather data a no brainer.2.) Is it possible to use FSUIPC to…

Hi,Beta RC7 of v1.8 is now available, fixing many problems with the winds aloft station search process. Please download via:http://www.hifisim.com/wxre18updaterc7.zipYou must be a current wxRE 1.x user to use this beta update...Note that this is a BETA - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK - MAKE BACKUPS OF ALL YOUR PREVIOUS EXISTING INSTALL FILES so you can revert to a working copy if a beta version becomes problematic for you.Enjoy! I look forward to the feedback..-Damian[table border=0" cellspacing="30" cellpadding="0][tr][td align = "left"]Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/a…

I constantly get WXRE.ini errors, it seems impossible to download the weather but I can get local weather by typing the airport code in the custom/destination box then in the Active Wx Station box that actually has "/ 99999999nm" to it I get #0000EE" VLINK="#551A8B" ALINK="#FF0000" and below " BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF" LINK="#0000EE" VLINK="#551A8B" ALINK="#FF0000">in the runtime status box it reads METAR Date/TimPASE ERROR; Distance to station 99999999.Advise please? :-(

HiJust d/loaded Flightmax and been experimenting with it, the idea is to use it just as a wx radar for the PIC76.Problem is however, I cannot get any returns from the radar ie cannot see any weather.I have setup everything according to what I have read. Change the flightmax.ini file, selected the correct wxRE options but still nothing.Any thoughts/ideas?Thanks

Please help if you can.I love using Active Sky and am updated to the 1.8 version. But for as long as I can remember, I have the following problem: I start Active Sky, wait for it to load, and then minimize it to the taskbar. Then I start MSFS, and go to my default situation. I see the green bar come up and Active Sky does its thing. At various points throughout the flight, Active Sky updates the weather and then usually stops responding. Almost always, when I exit out of MSFS, and right click on my taskbar to STOP Active Sky, it says the program is not responding. Is there a setting that needs to be tweaked or something. I want Active Sky to keep responding and CLOSE DOWN…

Hi DamianI seem to be having trouble getting wxRE to use FS Time instead of system time, i'm using wxRE 1.8RC4.I've tried unticking automatic UTC conversion and putting in my own values, but it always uses the system time.I've tried various other options but nothing has worked so far.Any ideas. ?EDIT: This is the METAR I got back at 1330 GMT, FS2002 was set to 0700 GMT.EGKK 211150Z 23009KT 180V260 9999 SCT040 OVC180 17/08 Q1023http://freespace.virgin.net/philip.jeff/BAVBanner.gif

This only started recently, but before the time change and the release of vers. 1.8 (which I hoped might fix the problem) I use a modem, but that hasn't seemed to be a problem before. I see there's something new w/ 1.8 for slow connectivity, but it's only for DL'ing the offline file. I always end up with simulated winds aloft. If I use the briefing mode it seems to DL the winds aloft fine, but the program doesn't use that data. When I close the briefing screen it starts to DL again and then the winds aloft times out once more.I've searched for a solution and tried the two suggestions in the readme.rtf cycles section, but neither helped.Thanks.

Hi,I was just wondering if "FS Sky world SE" was compatable with activesky ? is it needed when flying online ? & does it make the sky look any better than using the default clouds in FS2002?Many thanksMike.

I am using V1.8 RC4 and I am getting a strange difference between the winds aloft reporting station when running offline and online. Here is the problem.I am sitting at EGKK (Gatwick Airport, UK), if I run online mode ActiveSky gives me WMO 3882 (Herstmonceux, UK) as the active WMO, but when I run offline mode (same time) ActiveSky shows WMO 10200 (Emden, DL) as active. Now Herstmonceux is showing as 23 nm from EGKK and Emden is 284 nm away (in Germany I think?)I checked the WMO file and there are reports from 3882 and 10200 in it, both for today (18th May) and covering the Zulu time (12Z)Any ideas why this might be happening?RegardsBarry

Hi there!I'm very satisfied with ActiveSky, it's very well done, I especially like the smooth transition of the weather which is imho very realistic.Last evening and this afternoon, however, I ran into the following problem.I was flying from EHLE to EHRD with the default Cessna 172SP, the frame rate fixed at 20fps., when suddenly, on final at EHRD, the frame rate dropped dramatically, from 20fps. to 5-10fps.ActiveSky was running in the background but all weather updates were complete (i.e. it was not connecting to the internet).I think ActiveSky is causing the problems as frame rate was never an issue before buying ActiveSky (I bought it a week ago) as I run FS2K2 on a Pe…

Hi all,As we near DST for many time zones (April 6th in the US), keep in mind that you will need to change your UTC conversion value in wxRE options if you physically live in a time zone that uses DST (some do not).If your timezone uses DST, you should ADD one hour to your UTC conversion value. (i.e. +8 changes to +9). If this is a negative value (i.e. -8 for PST) then adding 1 would bring it 1 closer to zero (-7 = PDT). You should make this change concurrently when you change your windows system time (will automatically prompt you if you restart on or after your DST start date). This does not apply to timezones that do not recognize daylight savings time. If you are n…

Hello,One quick question: Does ActiveSky wxRE have also winds that are moving or wind gusts?? When I fly offline (after downloaded the wether via auto-download and create new) I will get only one wind direction and one wind speed. (e.g. 135 @ 12) This will be the wind for a verry long time. I moves seldom.Do I have wrong options set or is it somthing different??Any help appriciatedThanksJohn

I'm trying to evaluate weather programs, and I can't get ActiveSky to download weather from Vatsim. It downloads real weather just fine, so it does not appear to be a problem with my cable modem, router, firewall, etc. I'm using FS2002 and the latest FSUIPC (2.975). Coincidentally, I'm having no luck getting Vatsim weather from any of the other programs I've tried to evaluate. Any suggestions guys?

Maybe someone could be so kind to answer my following questions before I buy the program:1) Is Active Sky compatible with FS Sky World or do they interfere somehow?2) Does the automatic METAR/TAF etc. data download work for all areas of the world or is this restricted to the U.S.?Andreas

Hi, RC6 fixes a problem with offline winds aloft processing with certain stations, which could cause reports with valid information to be tossed and reprocessed. This error also caused performance problems (frame rates). Thanks to Steve for his help with this!http://www.hifisim.com/wxre18updaterc6.zipYou must be a current wxRE 1.x user to participate in this public beta. Official release now scheduled for tomorrow night assuming no new bug reports come in. I was flying from Cleveland to Boston this morning and noticed that several times during the flight the ground textures went away and were replaced with the bluest blue I've ever seen! It wasn't water textures either. Just a deep blue. I was at 33,000 ft and it was pretty hazy off and on. I've attached one screen shot (I hope). If it is haze, shouldn't the haze be either white or light brown??Steve

I know several of us have been discouraged and disappointed with what's been happening with respect to getting our downloads.Damian has opened up his heart to reveal HIS frustration and concern about the matter also. He has also given us a glimpse into his efforts to secure a more reliable method to obtain the necessary weather data and get it to us.I would like to ask if anyone would be open to the idea of donating $10-20.00 (US) in this effort.Yes, I know we already paid for the product (which has had its ups and downs), but I am very impressed with the committment that Damian still has towards correcting the situation. I'm sure that he has not made a profit on his en…
