I am about to become a first time owner of Active Sky. Should I wait a little until possible teething problems with the new release are solved(problems, what problems :-)), or go ahead and purchase right now?A few questions about the program, if you don't mind:1. What type of reports does AS use to get weather? Is it METAR, TAF, Winds Aloft,....?(Supplementary: am I correct in thinking a METAR supplies CURRENT weather information(at time of issue), while a TAF provides a FORECAST of how weather will develop over next 6(?) hours(I know TAF means Terminal Aeromdrome Forecast. Hi Damian & team,It seems so long ago since I've been helping with beta testing the WxRE FS2002 version... At long last I got around to purchase the new AS 4.5, curious how it has changed, what would it do to weather in FS2004. AS has indeed come a LONG way. It is simply... great! I was sitting in PANC and loaded AS2004.5 (with latest official release etc)...Closest station: KLKH (I assume it's thinking Lake Hood, which is the name for Anchorage, and LKH is a nearby VOR). The weather was, of course, totally off due to this.Maybe PANC just wasn't in the database for that particular moment when it pulled down data? Well that shouldn't matter, hrmm... because the Closest Station calculation is done locally before it hits the update server... so what do ya think caused it?Other than this, love the program guys... outstanding improvements since ya started :)- Jeff

Just wanted to thank you for Active sky. I just downloaded your 2004.5 after flying around with one of the beta versions for awhile, and the difference in your new version is outstanding. I am amazed at how fantastic the clouds look and I dont even have my cloud layers cranked up much due to a limited Video Card ( PCI Bus) . Applause!!! Applause!!! Your program is the greatest!!!

Hello., i purchased AS4.5 today (looks stunning:), and am not sure how to set minimum weather defaults. I go into fs9, folder, fsuipc and then weather configuration. The only option i can see is to set weather intervals from 4 to zero?Any confirmation (or otherwise) of this?Many thanks

hey I love the product, but I have one question. I keep getting visibility popping when at low (10,000-2000 feet) altitude even when visibility is reports at 25 or greater..there are low lying clouds, and I am sure I am not in the clouds...I will just be flying along, and then "pop" the visibility goes and the screen turns mostly white...then if I go up or down a few thousand feet it goes away...its most annoying because when I am sitting on the ground the vis looks good...but as I climb out it will "pop" into low vis...then after a few thousand feet it goes away...is there a way to fix this?? I followed all directions for a good startup of AS and I do not have online upd…

Hi AllSince I installed the new patch Active Sky is behaving differently. I launch the programme then FS9. My home airport is EIDW. Before the patch the weather would load up after a few moments. It would say "nearest station KSEA", then after a moment "nearest station EIDW" and the weather would be right. Now even though it says "nearest station EIDW" no weather loads. I have to exit to the desktop and press "refresh" then go back to the simulator for the weather to work.What am I doing wrong, or is there an option which I need to check to get the same functionality as before?Many thanksGerry

I'm new to AS, but am enjoying it so far. I use FStart, and set the priority of FS to High. I also, as per other's comments, assign FS to its own CPU; in this case CPU 0. Should I also assign AS to CPU 1? Will this help both programs while they are running together? Should AS be assigned a different priority beyond "normal"? Thanks for any thoughts on this. My problem is that fs9 crashes when I go to full screen mode after AS2004 refreshes. I have tried everthing suggested on this board from changing my render to texture settings and pause on task switch,etc. I have a registered copy of FSUIP, the lastest AS2004 and fs9 updates, the latest cloud textures, a high end PC with 128meg video card. I also have done all the routine procedures as clearing the weather in FSUIP.....you name it I done it but still this baby won't fly. What am I missing?

Sorry if this been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer. I notice that when using this program the clouds are being drawn in "steps", is this a fs9 issue or AS? What, if any, can be done to alleviate this?

Got a big problem I've never had before. Whenever AS finishes writing weather to FS9 I get an imediate CTD, no warning whatsoever.I have installed the FS9 patch and i'm using AS 4.5 147. FSUIPC is 3.4 full version.I tried uninstalling AS and reverting back to build 142 but the same thing is happening.Help please guys, getting desperate now.

Right now the more annoying thing in the Navlog is that you can't change anything!You can't change the cruise altitude without reloading the complete flight plan.Since i use the AS estimations for cruise wind for my planning, i would like it to remake its calculations without requiring to reload the FP, just by entering the new cruise altitude.And since we are at it: if i load a flight plan, while it let me choose the cruise speed, it doesn't let me modify the cruise altitude he reads from the FP.Also an option to update the calculations with new metars would be nice.My 2 cents :)

Getting ready for a clean AS2004.5 (147) install; is the MR1 installation still required before patching to AS2004.5 (147)? Is there anyway to obtain a full version of AS2004.5 (147) so I don't have to install wxRE 1.9 and patch forward again? Thanks..Al

I like what I see with the new version of the program. Once and a while I do use real world weather and that is a handy function, but most of the time I like to set specific weather for a region.With ActiveSky is it possible to quickly set low IFR conditions over a particular area? For example if I want to jump in the sim to practice some approaches in an area, is there a relatively quick way to create low overcast and visibility throughout a region?

It seams I can only have one or the other in the modules folder. If I have both I get the dreaded CTD when hitting the Fly Now button. Is there a known fix for this or have I discovered something new?

I just started using AS4.5 I have looked at the well written manual. My questions are as follows1. I have many saved weather situations and Weatherscape Schemes. I am uncertain how those fit into AS4.5, or how to implement them with AS4.5 which seems to function mainly by downloading real weather only.Once I just started the weather sitation and then refreshed AS4.5 and it seemed to pick up on it, but I was not sure if it did anything or I was dealing with the old FS weather system.2. I've done a couple flights to see how the new update handles overcast and I can't seem to produce anything. Once again we have the same situation we have with FS2k4 default weather where everything looks great from the ground but once you get over the haze layer you have clear skies with scattered clouds. I hate exiting out (or reducing) FS9 to access Active Sky. Please give us a menu item within FS9 (Like Active Camera does to access the program. OR..........Let it start concurrently with FS9 as FSHotSFX does. Isn't that possible...somehow? It would be much appreciated.

I think it was build 145. This latest one isn't working well at all for me. It is continually "writting weather to fsuipc" and other things and I can never click on options. The clouds are constantly changing and it just seems like this latest version is having problems on my system. The prior "beta" version worked fantastic?Can I go back to that? Is there an easy way to do that?Thanks!Lance
