I understand that archived weather is saved 4 times per day. What do you get with the download, six hours' worth of METAR and TAF, or just the METARs and TAFs at the time of the archiving? Say I want to start a daylight flight at 0700Z at a location where it is impractical to do so using realtime online updates (it's 1 am local time, and the last thing I need is to get jet lag from a flight sim :)), but I want realistic weather for the time of day. Do I need to turn TAF processing on to get changes in weather over the course of a 4-hour flight, or does the archived weather contain enough information to set the weather based on METARs alone? I've shied away from enabli…

My only question too those in the know is how to set the options in activesky as well as the weather settings withinn FS9 in order to get the most realistic condirins possible with respect to changing winds aloft, changing conditions, etc. if someone could post a screenshot of all their settings in activesky it owuld really help me to get the most from this product...by far the best add-on I have ever purcha…

I have had to install and reinstall Norton Internet Security 2005 several times. Each time I do that I cannot launch Active Sky and have to reinstall it.I suspect this relates to Norton's instructions to delete the contents of the Win XP %temp% folder prior to installing. If Active Sky keeps a link in the temp folder to launch itself what is the name of that link so I can avoid deleting it.Why would a critical link reside in the temp folder? This is the only program so affected. Thanks,Greg

Today for the first time I had a Visbility problem using AS.The metar was the followinghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/97080.jpgAnd that is what I was having outside. All this "soup" was starting at about 3000 and went down to groundhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/97081.jpgMy AS settings are the followinghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/97082.jpgThe only think that I have done different in teh flight which was online, in Vatsim as all my flights :) was that i had used imported route using only Destination,Departure and FL.ANy Ideas?Chris

Hi,I have rebuilt my flight sim machine, and have to reinstall AS from scratch. I just want to check what I have to reinstall. I have the original AS release (HIFI-AS2004.zip), lots of updates, including the latest one (AS20045-Update.zip). Is it just the two named files above that I have to install, or are there any others?TIASteve

I have been a long time user of Activesky. I had Activesky WxRE then got the upgrade from that to Activesky 2004 then got all the various updates and then the latest Activesky 2004.5 update. I then went and upgraded my OS from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. After fixing a few missing .ocx file errors I am now getting an "Initilization error reading files...Please verify your files or re-install." Is there a simple fix here or am I going to have to reinstall? If I have to reinstall then the question becomes, is there a way to get the initial installation as I don't seem to have a copy of it. I just have the last two updates to Activesky on my computer. Also, I think I receive…

There are two small issues when processing a flight plan through Active Sky 2004.51) When a new flight plan is imported and a different cruise altitude is entered in the cruise altitude field of the flight plan entry window, that cruise altitude seems ignored, e.g.: the FS9 plan has 35,000 ft and I enter 37,000 in the flight plan window of AS, I still get "Average Route winds for 35,000 ft" in the nav log window and the printed nav log. (I realize that winds will be the same from FL 240 up, but the same happens for lower crz alts). Maybe this is only a cosmetic flaw and the correct alt is used for calculating winds, but it would be nice if input and output agreed. :-)2) O…

Can I uninstall ActiveRadar using the "Add or Remove" program from the control panel in XP without damaging ActiveSky?

hi - i'm using as4.5 with fs9.1 - no problems apart from a gusting wind noise not only when viewing the a/c from outside but also from within the cockpit. BTW i also have just purchased active camera 2004 v.2 so i don't know if this is the culprit or whether it's to do with AS itself. Has anyone had / got similar issues or can someone please please tell me how to disable this wind noise!!CheersRick

Okay, let me see if I understand a few things before I put my foot fully in my mouth. The general problem with ATIS and RWY's being incorrect is that, upon entering FS9, it uses either the last weather information or the weather information as it was when you came into the game before ActiveSky was able to impact anything. The work-arounds for this are to either change the time by a minute or to toggle Traffic Density off using an FSUIPC key setup. Is that basically correct? If so then I may be onto something. If the above is correct then it shouldn't matter how long you sit inside FS9 because FS9 will not switch the ATIS weather. Well, I thought things were a bit odd when y…

Dear Friends: I love the new active sky 2004.5 version, but for some reason, especially at dawn, the clouds always "flicker" in the distance. They never do this when I am not using active sky. I already tried disabling "Render to Texture" but no change. Any ideas what is causing the problem? Thanks. Chris Catalano GForce 3/128 MB video card.

I have scoured this site and scratched a three inch hole in my head trying to figure this one out.Using Active Radar over WideFS. Version is Active Sky v4.5, both pcs running Windows XP sp1 and latest MS updates. The problem is this --I run Active Sky on a WideFS pc. Connects with the FS9.1 pc without a hitch -- flawless! I load Active Radar on the FS9.1 pc and it pops up fine. I turn it on, click "planning" to load my flight plan. I select the flight plan and...there are no waypoints in the plan. It tells me that I may need to click the update option, but there are no waypoints.Oddly, this had been working fine until the last few days. I've re-run the activeconnec…

Damian:"Hi. I have just received a product from Flight One, that is entitled ActiveSky WxRE. I purchased this thinking it was what everyone was calling AS2004. Are these the same thing? If not is there an upgrade? Or am I stuck? Also, after installing it, the first thing I do is punch up a weather briefing for the next flight I plan to make and I get this:SFO Winds Area Report not available...SLC Winds Area Report not available...ORD Winds Area Report not available...DFW Winds Area Report not available...BOS Winds Area Report not available...MIA Winds Area Report not available...ANC Winds Area Report not available

I bought AS2004.5 a few days ago, mainly because i read in the avsim forums that the instant haze transition problem with FS2004 was resolved, and while i can see improvements in other weather conditions, i don

Hi Guys,Active Sky 2004 is on my Christmas list, but I have a question about my old wxre edition.Would I be better using wxre in FS2004 for the moment instead of the FS2004 real world weather option? What would the pros and cons be?Thanks for any info.Regards,Glenn

I have been a user of AS2004 since shortly after it's release.I have sat through the development process installing updates, both beta and MR, as they have become available. On each successive update the immersion factor has increased to the point we are at right now.Yesterday I crankd up FS and teleported myself to Gate 38 at PHNL in preparation for a flight to PKMJ (Marshall Islands) on my way home to Australia. The weather at PHNL was poor 4sm visibility with heavy rain. I taxied to the runway and rolled. After take off I retracted the gear and set a climbing turn over the city of Honolulu. Thropughout the turn I could barely see the ground through the murk finally brea…

First time user. Glad to be aboard.ActiveSky seems to have cured one side-effect I'd been wondering about forever. No matter what I did previously, ATC would always, always, ALWAYS send me to RWY 8 out of KPHL even though the main runways are 9L/27R and 9R/27L. I could never get sent to either of those. I read some small item SOMEWHERE in the documentation that I can't find now that mentioned a problem like this. After getting ActiveSky set up I got sent right to 27L on my first flight out which matched the wind conditions perfectly. Fantastic! However, one thing does concern me and that's a reference that says, as part of "The recommended order for realistic procedures",…
