Hey gang,Got a question about graduated vis and AS2004. I purchased wxRE 1.9 about a month ago and now upgraded to AS2004 and went from FS2002 to FS2004. I am running on a P4 3Ghz HT with 700MB ram and Radeon 9200SE video card (I know it's not that good upgrading to 9800 Pro this week) with the latest drivers and FSUIPC 3.4.Here is the problem: When on the ground I have no graduated vis i.e. I can see for miles and miles I only get graduated vis above FL130. If the vis is low then I don't get the fogging effect I used to in FS2002 I don't mean that if it is foggy I don't get the fog it's just that things don't faid into the distance as they used to. I have the FS2004 upda…

Hi ! This is my first post here at avsim.com, even though i'v been visiting here already quite lot.I bought AS 2400.5 just day ago and i'm already very happy with it.Thanks dev team, and keep up the good work!Oh, i got a question: I have been searching topics about the "hard edge horizon" issue, when over, lets say 12.000ft...is there any way to "blur" it out permanently. It kinda ruins the otherways very nice athmosphere. It doesn't seem to go away even if lower my vis to zero at high altitude.

I just started using VATSIM and I don't think I will fly without it anymore,, I love it. I just heard of some people using ActiveSky with VATSIM but I don't understand what this does for you because VATSIM already has weather built in and when you are on the VATSIM network you are using the VATSIM weather and NOT the default MSFS2004 Jeppesen 15-minute updated weather.. so how would adding yet another weather source help matters?Basically the ATC controllers on VATSIM are seeing the weather they get from the VATSIM weather servers, so if a pilot used say the ActiveSky weather, wouldn't that mess up what you and the controller might see? For instance you are coming in f…

http://virtualskies.arc.nasa.gov/weather/t.../tutorial6.htmlThis looks like a very useful site for understanding the many different kinds of wx reports available. Internal links provide sample and decoded reports for METAR, TAF, SA, PIREPS(Weather), FT, FA, FD, AIRMET, SIGMET, as well as information on wx charts and briefing formats.BR,Frank

Hi Damian and Jim,AS2004.5 is absolutely fantastic, you're always improving the best addon for FS9.I have some minor question:1-when tuning flightwatch on 122.0 I get the weather spoken word per word and it takes 10 minutes to finish the report ! (not so important, but...)2-how AS handles the VV (vertical visibility) ? Putting a OVC layer at the VV value ?3-the PROB modifier is still NOT modelled ?4-how is handle RASN or SNRA precipitation ?Many thanks for your help and thumbs up for your work !

Hi all,I've been trying for the past 15 minutes to download the current wx from the server for AS2004.5 It is currently 0043Z. It says it is downloading the file, but there is no downloading going on.Is it just me, or the server?Regards,ScottKJMS

I just updated from the last beta build, which was working great, to AS2004.5 and it is crashing my system. I am getting a fatal error, mod. weather.dll. All was great until I make the update. I did a clean install of the total AS2004 program. This is the only remove/install I have made since the beta.Any suggestions.ThanksJay

When downloading weather, does AS download METARs as well as TAFs and Winds Aloft? If so, can you tell me the meaning of the message, "No METAR Loaded(Use Custom Fetch)"? I think this only means you have not generated a Custom Station Report? What then does this option add to the weather already retrieved in the main download, and when might I use this last option, please? If I remain online after downloading wx, will AS periodically check the server for newer updates to the METARs, TAFs, and Winds Aloft? I've just looked in the Options window, but cannot see where to set the time for periodic retrieval of wx data.Appreciate your help,BR,Frank

When using the flight planner it tells you the average wind direction and speed. Would it also be possible to add the average headwind or tailwind for those users who have difficulty being able to work out that during their flight what tailwindheadwind they will have. I am never able to determine the tailwind or headwind, how does one work this out?RegardsJason

Well guys, these have been frustrating days with AS, first wxRE and after realizing it doesn't work well in FS9, now AS2004 that I bouhgt today.I will forget about the problems that I had with wxRE, but I do need a solution for AS2004. BEFORE I GET THE MESSAGE THAT I SHOULD CHECK MY FSUIPC VERSION: IT IS 3.40, DOWNLOADED TWO OR THREE WEEKS AGO A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE FS9 PATCH WAS RELEASED. Sorry about the big letter, but I kept getting answers asking if I have the right version of FSUIPC when I am always specific about it.I installed AS2004 earlier today and set everything as per the instructions.I opened FS cleared all weather and did a couple of short flights to try the …

Hi EveryoneI did a flight today from CYHM to KIAD using Radar Contact.I set the program to pause 90 miles from KIAD leaving the game for about an hour before returning.I unpaused and did a Weather watch check 122.00 and winds reported for KIAD were [email protected] I contacted KIAD ATIS approx. 50 miles from destination they were reporting winds [email protected] then rechecked Weatherwatch 122.00 and still reporting winds 349.Ctr.Z reported winds 090 @2 knots. After landing weatherwatch still reporting winds 349 degrees, but CTR.Z and Atis for KIAD reporting 090.I had options set Force destination winds.Hope this is not to confusing, any explanation would be appreciated.RegardsKenny G…

I would love to have ActiveSky but have been hesitant in getting it because of my dial-up internet speed. The connection speed is about 46.6 Kbps, and my download speed runs around 5 Kbps. Is that going to be fast enough for me to use it? My system shouldn't be a problem.I would appreciate anyone with this slow of a speed sharing their experiences.

I had smooth performance on my mid range machine before installing Active Sky. Then I developed rather severe stutters on the ground with lots of clouds and in the air clouds/scenery just jerked by.This was the case without invoking Active Radar. When I renamed the Active radar dll to .BAK, I got right back to my old smooth performance before Active Sky but this time with all the benefits of Active Sky except Active Radar. This is more of an FYI to others. Not sure what element of Active Radar drags peformance down. I liked the weather reporting at destination etc feature when I used it once. But one can switch to Active Sky and fetch the destination METAR for the same purp…

Last night I set myself to KPDX. The Active Sky METAR said winds from 000 at 00 and the visibility was 10 SM. few at 800 overcast at 5,500. Sitting on the ground at PDX, When I tuned flightwatch it identified PDX and said winds 180 at 09 and visbility at 0.5 mile; few at 800 overcast at 5,500 AND 7,500.In the sim, Vis certainly was not 0.5 miles, more like 10. But the cloud layering was accurate. Why this discrepancy?Refreshing did not change anything. Thanks,Greg

Well, here I am again finishing my FS9 set up.I have one last problem. I have wxRE version installed in a secondary PC via Wide FS. I am not sure what happens but AS gets the weather, finds its way to the other computer (I had to write the path to the main computer in AS), installs the winds in FS9, but it doesn't install the clouds. I tested it with wxRE installed in the main PC, and my skyes are full of nice clouds, then I shut AS down and clear the weather. Then I start AS in the secondary PC, get the weather and although the winds are loaded exactly the same in FS9, no clouds appear.I tested it in all possible ways starting and shutting down AS in both computers and t…

I have to say it again.............ActiveSky is one of the best add-ons I have acquired in many years of flight simming, since FSII in 1984 on a PC Jr.I need some advice regarding the performance I am seeing. I am using the 32 bit FSW High Performance clouds, and when I encounter heavy cloud coverage my frame rate drops from 30 (where it is locked) to 10-14 fps. As you can see from my specs below, my system should, I think, do a little better than that.Do you have any suggested settings which might improve the performance?I really appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot,

(Also posted to PMDG Support Forum)Just bought and installed ActiveSky 2004.5 tonight and followed the setup instructions regarding FS and FSUIPC to the letter( AFAIK), but am experiencing what I hope are just teething problems.Active Sky is having problems downloading weather from its server. The first few times I cancelled the download because there was no activity on the line at all. After a number of tries, and a longish wait, the download seemed to work. However, I got a message saying "decompression error" when download finished. This problem also occurred when I chose the Custom (METAR) download.I realise that the above could have been caused by a poor intern…

Hi,I have a problem with the winds aloft. During flight the wind in the sim is not like wxRE is showing. The wind is 326/66 but it should be about 240/45 what wxRE shows and that would be more realistic according to the wind charts.I am using FS 2002 with FSUIPC 2.9.7.4. Which parameters could be wrong? On the ground I have no problems. I use the VATSIM option and the wind is as expected.

Hi All,Very happy with AS2004.5.......works well and the cloud formation/metar interpretation is superb.I have one small problem with my setup here. I use AS2004.5 via a client PC using WideFS (Registered) to FS9 running FSUIPC 3.401 (Registered). Weather is sent and displayed in FS9 perfectly.......sadly the ActiveRadar just will not work 100%.I was unable to install across the network using the installer.....so after searching the forum here used the manual copy to the modules folder, mapped the correct drive on the client and added the registry entry on the host FS9 PC. The guage displays with Ctrl-F12 and will load a fplan.......just not show any weather data either l…

Here is my "ini" file, what is set wrongly so that I am not getting destination weather well before approach? I am using AS2004 through WideFS as well, but that should be no problem. For instance, destination is KPDX, but KVUO stays as the weather until 1 nm before touchdown on 10R, that's just plain wrong!!!//AS2004.5 configuration file Build 145[General]WindowPosX = 3045WindowPosY = 2445DefaultWeatherFolder = C:activesky2004ModulesActiveSky2004SuppressionCeiling = 4000SurfaceWindLimit = 10CloudLayerLimit = 5LocalSuppressionRange = 40MinimumVisibility = 0MaximumVisibility = 59IncreasedWake = FalseDisableWindsAloft = FalseForceTstormsWithCB = FalseAutoConvertPlanFiles = T…

I thought that in 6-hours archives you have all METARs (for example if METARs were ussued every hour I thought that in 6 hour set I will have all six metars for every hour). But this isn't true. Am I correct?Only the TAF processing can produce changing weather when you are in off-line mode? Is this true?

When I tune to 122.00 I can hear voice Flightwatch weather message. And this is nice. But the message continues to the end even if I tune my radio to another frequency (or chaage from COM 2 to COM1). It's not realistic. If I change to antoher frequency while Flightweatch is still played I'm hearing Flightwatch and FS ATC simultaneously which is hard to understand to non native English speaker. So I have to wait to the end of Flightwatch message. But when I wait too long the Flightwatch message is played again and I again have to wait to the end of it.It's not a big issue, but correcting this will move the realism of Fligthwatch to higher level.P.S.Thanks for correcting alo…

I've very recently installed Activesky and all those reports about how good it is are certainly well founded. Alas, I seem to be having problems running Activesky and FShotsfx simultaneously. I experience crashes usually with the error messagr 'FS9 has caused a fault in FSUI.dll'. This only happens if I attempt to run both at the same time. Each runs OK if the other is disabled.I also have FS Nav and Active Camera installed. I'm using FS9 without the 9.1 update on Windows Me, and I have the unregistered version of FSUIPC 3.40.Has anyone else had such a problem?
