Hi there,One question if possible to get an answer,What do exactly "use update suppression" and "use local range suppression" mean ?Do i have to leave these boxes checked in order to receive the up to date real time data to be realistic ?Can someone tell me about their functions and their effect to the realism ? and if they are necessary ?Thanks

Hi AS crew,You would have become used to me by now :) a long time Active Sky user. First off after about a week using the product I must say thanks for this one it's fantastic. It took a little tweaking to get the settings right but well Rome wasn't built in a day. Thanks once again for great support and a great product... I have purchased Active Sky WXRe, 2004 and now AS5 and it's money well spent in my oppinion. Now to my questions as you guys might get big heads and start slacking on the support :) The updates in AS5 seem to take ages! Guys I'm serious, up to 45 secs to a min. During this time FPS does drop. I know that bandwidth throttling was implimented and I was on…

I just bought ASV -- having used FSMeteo for years.I'm impressed with many things in ASV -- but one capability I'm missing is the following . . . One of the things I have not been able to figure out how to do conveniently (!) is to, after importing a route plan into FSV, check the effect of winds over the entire route for a number of different altitudes, to see which altitude would give me the quickest route time. All I can figure out to do is reload the route each time . . . but even then, I can't seem to overide the altitude that is in the saved .PLN file.Am I just missing it, or is this not a capability of ASV.Thanks for any advice.Mark

I don't know what you guys have done with this new version of Active Sky, but my frame rates are so much better, even in foul weather, compared to AS2004.5. All in all, it's been a great upgrade. I know there's some issues that Damian are working on with low ceilings and such, but I hope the performance isn't compromised.I do have a question though. On a few flights where the destination airport is hazy/foggy, such as my approach into KSFO a night or two ago, the haze/fog didn't kick in until I was about 15 miles out. Obviously, this made for a somewhat clear to instant haze, and I'm wondering why the suppression for 100 miles didn't prevent this? It's happened a cou…

Jim,Just did another test. Have four viable theories after about 30-40 hours of flying with ASV, and comparing it side to side with still installed AS2004.5 and MS default real time weather. I did take into account the "2 mile ring" that you mentioned in the other post. Please pass on to Damian.KBOS 012354Z 09006KT 1/2SM R04R/P6000FT BR BKN005 OVC028 18/17 A2969 RMK AO2 SFC VIS 1 SLP055 T01780172 10217 20178 55008Flew a series of 360 climbing turns right after taking off, over the GPS center of the airport at KBOS, so as to stay within the 2 mile limit. First, hit the clouds at 3000 feet. Coincidentally, there is an approx 3000 ft layer reported. This supports my second …

HiI am in the process of doing a complete re-install and have now come to the question of clouds. I have Flight1's Flight Environment and before I install this again I would like to know your thoughts on which way I should go FE, ASV, both etc?I know your responses may be bias but I am guessing a lot of you have also had FE in the past.RegardsIan3500+2x512meg Ram2x SATA 10,000rpm WD HDD in Raid0Radeon X800 pro

I was about 4 miles from KSOV where the decoded ASV indicated clouds were Overcast 9000. Outside it just displayed scattered clouds. Flying PANC PADQ, at FL120.9000 overcast says that I shouldn't be able to see the ground if I am above 9000 feet? Correct? Is ASV updating the visible weather correctly? My arrival weather and clouds at PADQ from 8000 - 2100 seemed to be more realistic. Thanks!Barry

  8. Hello all, first, thanks for creating ASV -- I have always thought ActiveSky + Chris would make the FS Weather Dream Team, and ASV proves me right :-).So I am happy with ASV, but on my system (2.6 GHz P4, 768 MB RAM) I have to fight for every fps, and now I wanted to try the MIPS clouds to see how much they help. But I am not sure if I understand the procedure completely. (Sorry, I know this is beating a very dead horse, and I did read the sticky thread (and others) several times; but I still need to make sure to really get it right: I live in mortal fear of having all those wonderful ASV clouds, but not actually being using them... x( )Here's what I did (standard procedure …

From the manual:Using ICS (Intelligent Cloud Selection) or Random AE Startup ModesICS stands for "Intelligent Cloud Selection" and ASV uses it to automatically match an appropriate set of Cloud textures based on the current weather conditions (of your current/departure area depending on if you have a flight plan loaded or not). This must occur before FS2004 is actually loaded, as cloud texture changes cannot occur during "run-time"*. It is highly recommended to load a flight plan so that your initial weather and ICS computations will be appropriate for your departure location.Using ICS gives you completely automatic and ever-changing cloud textures based on your weather c…

Hello hifisim. ASV is an incredible product! The enroute weather is absolutely spectacular. However I am experiencing issues in regards to the reported METAR weather at any airport. I just flew into KEKA with the closest reporting station KACV. KACV is 11nm N and was reporting 031853Z AUTO 30008KT 10SM OVC003 13/11 A3006 RMK AO2 SLP184 T01330111I did the GPS RNAV 11 approach expecting to never see the airport at the MDA but to my amazement i broke out of the clouds around 1,100 feet. the airport elevation is 54 feet. Irregardless of what airport I select, the lowest possible ceiling hovers around this altitude. What is very interesting is if the surrounding terrain is mou…

Hi Sims,I have installed ASV from my FS PC to the remote PC via a mapped root drive (O:asv). After the installation I called the ActiveRadarConnector.exe, which started and asked me in a file dialog to select the asv.exe on the mapped drive. Every time, when I select the file on o:asvmodulesasv folder a dialog box appears with the message "You must select the asv.exe file before continuing."Both PC are Windows XP Professional, I installed the ASV Update Version from AS 4.5.Any ideas whats going wrong ?RegardsThomas

I realize the manual recommends starting ASV and entering the departure and destination points prior to starting FS9, but I use FSNAV within FS9 to do my flight planning and then start ASV. It works, but it always loads the data for just the current location. I have to wait til it finishes and then do an Import Flight Plan and load everything a second time. I have the Start Paused option checked and the Un-Pause on FS Ready option unchecked, but ASV un-pauses anyway as soon as it detects FS9 is active. Is there any way I can keep ASV from loading the current location data until I import ther flight plan (with FS9 running)? Thanks,Dale

OK, so I see how to create my own subsets of favourite clouds but how do I go about removing clouds that I don't like or never use?Guess what I'd like to be able to do is rotate in a random way just a few of the cloud/Texture subsets in each section. At the moment I can do it entirely manually, or have to accept the random choices made by ICS, it would be nice to create a `middle ground`.I'm sure like many simmers I'm overwhelmed at the number of choices and combinations, it's a mind-boggling piece of work and congratulations! But if I find some that I won't use, can I remove them from the selection process?Allcott

Just finished a flight with build 320 (SU1?). I have always unchecked the wake turbulance simulation option (the effect never seemed realistic to me). At FL330 I crossed very close behind another plane at the same altitude and my plane immediately went into a dive, which was always my experience with the wake turbulance simulation, a complete loss of lift. Fortunately I was at the computer at the time and was able to recover. I checked to verify that wake turbulance was still unchecked, and it was. So either the setting is not taking, or this was some interaction with the vertical air simulation. Will try SU2 for the next flight.Mark Kuebeler

I received my email the other day, installed the monitoring software, and took a good look at what info MS was collecting (or lack there of). Their monitoring software is NOT looking for third party add-ons that might be integrating with FS, such as ActiveSky or a flight planner, or the so to be released FS Passenger. I also asked about the "other" use selection as most of my flying is not one of the choices. I emailed them inquiring about this and got the following reply:"Given the constraints of trying to look at what we could given what FS2004 was already recording (for the video replay stuff) we could not record more information without modifying FS2004 itself. Theref…
