hi all does this program eliminate the sudden pop up of clouds as you pass through different weather areas, its a big problem in FS where all of a sudden the clouds pop up,rgds.

Hi team.I was wondering; now that the 9.999 jump makes it impossible to create realistic transitions, if you have considered using regular clouds to lower the the vis instead of the in-build fog? This way no vis jump would occur when ascending through the layer. I think./sebastian

Hi, I have a question.. I use activesky's (version 5) "pause at startup" along with ICS -w- Random selection. Seems to me that the software doesnt update FS with the random textures until it unpauses and at that point I have Flight simulator running. If I load active sky with the pause feature off, and load my weather and my flightplan, it tries to update flight simulator as soon as it runs.. and not when the flight is ready.. any ideas on this issue?Adam

  6. I notice that the descriptions of sky textures, runway lights different rains, etc are not covered in the manual. I wonder why this was left out.I would like to know about the rationale for changing these textures and what they are trying to accomplish. Is it all a matter of personal preference or one of increased realism over defaults? Why not intelligent selection for sky texures? If one chooses polluted sky what does that mean when flying at 30,000 feet? You see it is really unclear.I do not really know what choosing fixed dawn will do. Create a flight with constant dawn? Likewise for the rest. Why would one want to change runway lights for example? Why choose fixed d…

Hi Spackle,Thanks for your interest in our product! Damian is from the Cali. region and knows about the complex nature of that coastal weather. I can't promise you an exact solution because this is real time weather we are using. However, there are options in ASV to turn off FS9 Haze Layer and turn off fog layer generation under clear conditions. I would say that the wind pattern would go away.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Righty, it's 1610 here in NZ, Friday afternoon, counting down to getting out of work.Plan to be home and 'flying' in 90 minutes.Sooo.....if anyone's got some great weather somewhere in the world could you please let me know departure and arrival airport, suitable for the PMDG 737-700.And by 'great' I mean lots of clouds, rain, wind, turbulence, that sort of thing. Fine, clear weather with pretty colourful clouds not really my thing I'm afraid....1613 now, but who's counting!CheersTim

Sorry if this has been asked before but if you choose one of the ICS settings in the Options area, does that automatically create an environment where clouds with lightning/thunderstorms will always appear regardless of what the prevailing whether is? Should I set it to Manual? Thanks.

Hi, Another ASV oddity for you. The attached shows this afternoon's EGRR ob (my home station), downloaded as archive data - first time I've used it - very efficient process by the way except that it presumably downloads the whole world, while I only wanted southern England. Decode says weather: Moderate rain. Metar say shower in the vicinity (VCSH). Fortunately the decode isn't reflected in FS which closely resembles the Metar. We did have quite sharp showers - moderate rain would have been appropriate if you were under one!Mervyn

I just downloaded the AS5 Upgrade.I'm currently running AS4.5 with FS Sky World 2004 and Flight Environment. I also hhave a backup of my original Textures folder prior to installing FSSW2K4.I want to end up with AS5 and FE. Is there anything I need to do do, either before or after installing the AS5 Upgrade, in order to make this happen?Regards,Sandy

I'm using Active Sky 4.5 with updates(Build 1.93) and have noticed, just last night, that the screen flashes(once, no flickering), whenever the weather is updated(as confirmed by the ticker tape message bringing the latest METAR).I do not recall seeing this behavior previously. I wonder if it could be a driver issue, or something to do with FSUIPC(I have the version recommended with the last update, but cannot recall the version number)? Any advice on how to deal with this problem would be very welcome.BR,Frank

Jim, I have tried all of your suggestions and I am still always flying in white out conditions. I have fog and haze unchecked in ASV. Once again today I did a flight from KDEN to KDFW and was in the soup the entire time. What do I need to do short of going back to AS2004.5? I am getting really frustrated with ASV. Do you offer a refund? Thanks.Bob

I've installed SU2, which I thought was to fix problem with always haveing to tell the location of fs9 folder. My problem still exists. Every startup it asks for location, I point it to mapped drive ( im using widefs ) it concurs and uses it. everything works perfect. Startup also asks me to save path in options. I always go to the options and save. Next time on startup...here we go again.any suggestions?JimC.

Hi, I know problem of the FS9 horizon has been raised before. Can anyone suggest settings that will alleviate the sharp cloud edge which occurs towards the horizon - see attachment. In this case I have the following settings in FS and ASV:Sight distance 120 mlCloud draw distance 80 ml (max)min Vis 0Max vis 59 (default)Disable vis graduation uncheckedDepict FS9 haze layer checkedAs you can see from the metar at the top (offline applied to all stations) the cloud is OVC at 080. The view is from the aircraft at 050. I have tried various values for these parameters with no real change except some bring the edge closer to you. Surely if the cloud is being drawn out to 80 miles…

Hi Guys,I'm getting along a lot better with the configurator now, largely through applying the weather to all stations, not just within 100nm (I'm not convinced the latter works properly). However I just loaded some new photoreal scenery for Invercargill New Zealand and started a flight from there using online weather. Main ASV screen shows Metar from Invercargill 061500z with 30kms vis and two layers of cloud, few and sct. Rather more than this appeared obscuring the photoscenery so I thought use WX Configurator to remove the lower layer. Set the Fetch box for NZNV as depicted on the main screen and the program gave me the Metar for Christchurch (NZCH) also 061500z, 20km…

Hello, I am trying to retain the impression of haze at high altittude constantly so that the transition between sky and ground is less extreme and abrupt(Even if the online weather reports don't indicate it). However, as far as all other weather variables go I would like them to be reported and translated into real weather as I fly online. Is it possible to isolate the variable of haze so that it doesn't make the tranistion so abrupt. In other words -have haze all the time even at high altitudes. I hate it when I get to 10,000 and then suddenly it seems like someone has drawn scenery with two distinct colours on the horizon. I recently found a file called Soft Horizonz by …

One thing I have noticed, and maybe I am just doing something wrong but flying enroute during lines of thunderstorms there are usually towering cumulus clouds up to FL400 and higher. These need to be deviated around and make for some big decisions in real life flying. I have not seen any big time buildups during storms. Is it me or is this really missing?

Could someone answer a question for me? I have been using FSMeteo till now and only recently heard about Active Sky. What bothers me about FSM is that when it pauses to download weather updates every few minutes, my flight suffers a disruption that includes a drastic reduction or increase in airspeed, and a change in heading. Sometimes there is an annoying overspeed warning bell depending on the plane I'm flying, and it takes a few minutes for the plane to settle down to its original settings as the plane slowly goes back to its original cruising airspeed and yaws itself back and forth to its original GPS heading. It kind of resembles the plane being hit by something ever…

To all the developers of Active Sky V.You have created a great product and I have enjoyed many hours with it.Many times I create a flight in overcast or clouded conditions and set full screen (no instruments) just to watch the clouds go by. In other words I use ASV as wallpaper or screen saver.I have actual IFR flight experience and it was always fun to just fly in, through and around the clouds and ASV reproduces that very well.So the suggestion;Create wallpaper or screen saver to just run without using any simulator, just the visual. In fact a DVD with hours of random flying through the clouds would be great.Just an idea.
