Drills and hole-saws make cutting round holes easy enough, but what techniques do cockpit builders use for all those square and rectangular holes necessary for push buttons, screens, digital readouts and so on?Lets assume the family CNC milling machine (I wish) has been stolen by aliens to fix their spaceship, so we are talking simple workshop hand or power tools here. --Bryn

Any advice about projectors/beamers?I have seen conflicting comments in the past, ranging from "great increase in immersion" to "pixels clearly visible and distracting".Technology has come a long way recently, and prices have dropped as more are sold for home entertainment. But are these suitable for flightsim, or is the resolution too coarse? What do builders here think? What are the minimum resolution standards acceptable? And, off-topic, does anyone use theirs for looking at the family digital photos? How does it compare with a real slide/transparency set-up?Best regards to all,--Bryn

Hi guys,For a great example of what you can build with FSCONV4 and SIOC3/IOcards, see Martin Ton's Level-D MCP+VORs at my website, page new!Well done, Martin!Regards,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl

Hi all, I am trying to build a Citation cockpit. I am using an add on Eaglesoft Citaion aircraft. I purchased a Gammaray v2 I/O card from betainnovations. It looked fairly easy to set up, but I can't figure out how to get the card to interact properly with the FS. I can program my switches to operate basic MSFS commands, but can't get them to execute any of the more advanced ones. What is the best way to get everything to work properly. I am new at cockpit building. I tried using A key board emmulator but the aircraft does not use key board commands, or I just don't know what I am doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi!Now that I started using the keyboard emulation feature of SIOC, and I have setup quite a bit of my cockpit into SIOC, I have started to realize that something in my setup is not right. This thing became more clear now that I have started setting up the GPS keyboard shortcuts using the keyboard emulator functionality in IOCards (EmulatorK plus SIOC3 built-in keyboard emulator)This also relates to my problem with encoders (skipped inputs) and also some switch inputs going missed.I tested SIOC without FS at all. Everything works super-fast and nicely, the encoders perform beautifully. Keyboard events flow pretty much real time from the turn of a knob into Notepad. So the…

Hello to all builders,I have recently started to do some research for building a home cockpit.First of all I must say that I am very impressed by the work done by some builders - some people are very talented....I hope I can build something that looks and feels as real as that..Anyway, since I have some background in H/W design, I wanted to hear from other builders (that is if I am considered a 'builder' though I haven

Hi My name is Benjamin and I'm comming from Germany, near Berlin. I'm 16 and my english is the standart school english, so it isn't the best. Sorry for that.I want to build a modified Airbus pedestal and connect this via IOCards to the FlightSimulator. The size of the pedestal will be round about 50cm x 53cm. I solved the most problems to realize the project but some things i want to solve. So I have a couple of questions. First of all, what I want to realize?- two switches (BAT 1 & 2)- three switches APU (MASTER SW; START; APU BLEED)- two switches (SIGNS)- whole overhead fuelsection (L TK PUMPS; CTR TK PUMPS; R TK PUMPS; X-FEED)- 8 switches (EXT LIGHTS)- RADIO PANEL …

I had been using a Thrustmaster FLCS and TQS for FS control. I have built a replica of the Boeing 727 throttle with modifications to the TQS for a working model.I recently bought the CH flight yoke and both were working with each other upon initial installation until I re-booted the computer the next morning. The FLCS and TQS are hooked up to a gameport to USB converter. The FLSC and TQS both disappeared from the assignment list in the XP game contoller window. What shows up in the window is a two-axis four-button contoller along with the CH Yoke.I've tried re-assigning an axis to the TQS through the CH config manager and through FS9 but this isn't working. The computer th…

Why is it that so many suppliers to this hobby only accept paypal? My credit card is an online credit card, and paypal does not accept this card at all, I don't want to get a proper credit card as I have had problems before, yet I can't buy anything to do with this hobby, I've bought tons of other things, from all over the net, but because paypal doesn't accept the epassporte cards, I can't buy for this hobby.Insane :(The fees for epassporte are lower than paypal for starters :) but the only disadvantage, is you can't withdraw money to your bank account, only cash :)

I have removed the throttle pods from my CH yoke. I'm relocating them in my center console. There is a 5 pin inline plug that plugs into the 3 pod circuit board.I want to make an extension wire harness to connect to the existing harness which should be a male end and then into the relocated pod circuit board female end.I have no idea what the name of these inline pin connectors are, or where to get them on line.If anyone has relocated theirs, can you help me out.I dont want to ruin the integrity of the existing wiring by cutting and soldering. ThanksAlhttp://www.flightontario.com/images/sig_asibley.gif

After several attempts at building a throttle quad and not getting the precision I want (although it does work) I have decided to buy one.In searching the forums for the Elite quads I found nothing on the topic since 2003/early 2004, so I assume no one is following those threads anymore.I am looking at the Elite MEL Quad and the Elite KA Quad. I am all but sold on the KA, and having viewed thier forums and speaking with their administration it looks like all is good using this with FS2004, thier driver, and a registered version of FSUIPC.Does anyone have any experience with Elite Quads they would like to share, or things I should know before I drop $300 on it?Thanks for a…

Post soon being moved to "Home cockpit" forum by posterI modified my Ch throttle levers to more closely resemble a Boeing-type appearance. Thought I'd share it with you. The flap lever handle is a piece of curve floor molding sanded to shape and the speed brake handle is a small rectangular piece of pine cut roughly to shape then sanded to the final contours. All are painted with Testors Model gloss paints. Lettering is rub-on letters available in most office supply stores, Helvetica 18 Pt. font, though I did the numbers on the throttles themselves by hand with a black Sharpie permanent marker. I think it adds a lot to my home set-uphttp://www.graphics-free.com/animations…

Hi guys,First a happy new year and happy building for the next coming year.I used my xmas freetime wise and made a few dual concentric rotary encoders. I did dual rotary switches before but was not completely satisfied with the result, so I started this little sidestep. It turned out that these ones are very easy and quick to make , compared to the rotary switches.I found encoders that I could connect to FSBUS directly without the need of REDEC. The pics speak for themselves.RegardsNorbert Boschhttp://home.wanadoo.nl/norbert.bosch/http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137792.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137793.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137794.jpghttp://…

I bought a Sharp Notevision XGA projector from Costco for $900 three-ish months ago, and I have been very happy with it, so I thought I'd give it a shout. Althought it's really geared towards being used for presentations, it is serving very well for both PC graphics applications and DVDs. Ironically, although my main goal was to get a projector for my "out of the window" Flight Simulator view, I have ended up using a lot more for general gaming (e.g. Doom 3, World of Warcraft, etc.) and movies than for flight simming lately! It's a XR-11XC. I have it mounted on my basement ceiling using a Peerless mount, upside-down, projecting onto a $40.00 60"x48" artist's canvas (untre…

Someone posted a mini review of the above item and I was wondering:How well does this unit slide into the CDU/FMC bay when the USB plug/port is on the end of the unit? Looks like this could cause an installation problem, although I love the simplicity of the unit and the fact that the screen is very CLEAR along with SHARP and no vid card is needed. Thanks for the feedback,Eric
