Hi guys,I was looking at the various tutorials and manual at OpenCockpits forumhttp://www.opencockpits.com/modules.php?na...=showpage&pid=8Even then, I don't quite follow some of the simple things that one is expected to know. Can you guys recommend a book or two that would help me unerstand the basics. I am trying start with two things first.1. Connecting switches like on/off of lights in Flight sim for eg. or the ignitition switch with 4 positions. everything, I need to know about it, including the physical board and plastics sheets that I would been etc.2. Panel warning lights using LEDs. Again....the electronics part of it as well as the physical aspect of puttin…

Several interesting discussions are taking place right now and they have me interested in building another throttle for my B727 cockpit.I'm researching potentiometers right now and will be using precision pots that are available at Mouser. I've read the arguments about using optical encoders, but I don't have the hardware to support that configuration. My question is, how many turns on the pot should I buy, or does this depend on how they are hooked up mechanically?One-turn and ten-turn pots are available. Does the Windows calibration program take care of this no matter which pot I use?I'm thinking of using a pulley and belt arrangement, but nothing is in stone at this poi…

Hi...all:As you may have seen by my posts on this site I had trouble with my FSBUS system after dismantling it to build a new housing. It now looks like the FSCOM board is dead and Jan on this site suggested it could be a cracked PCB.Since I am woeful at electronics and wouldn't know what to do with the crack if I found one, I would like to get a new FSCOM fully completed. The fella who sold me this a couple years ago no longer is working with FSBUS but he is going to see what he can find but not promising anythingIn the meantime does anyone know where I can get a fully finished FSCOM which I can just plug into the PC and other boards i.e. FSKEY, FSDISPLAY etc. Many thanks…

Ok, I'm tired of the so called play-dough soft gel hardware that they call Yokes, Rudders & throttles that are truly a joke. The software is incredible and the hardware is nothing more than garbage. It's an injustice that the software to some of the most advanced simulators in the history of this hobby are so realistic and the hardware is so unrealistic. If you have ever experienced a real simulator or the real airplane for that matter and I'm particularly referring to the 737 NG, there is no way that the std in the industry yoke, rudders and throttle systems are a real disappointment. Can anybody recommend a yoke, throttle, & rudder system that doesn't have the f…

Hi,I'm building my ATR72-500 overhead and almost all of the buttons have two lines of text (on the surface of each button): "fault" and "off" or "fault" and "on".I need to illuminate all the "fault" in yellow or red, and the "off" and "on" in white. Then I thought about coloured mini-LEDs but I need a "light guide" to "direct" the led light only on one line of text (a time) trying to avoid light interference on the line of text that has to stay off.Has someone of you ever built an illuminated button with more than one line of text? How did you make the illumination of the button text?Thank you, regards.Bob

Hi,I'm starting out in building stuff for my cockpit. I'm going to make a generic throttle first. i have 2 large pieces of wood.I think its plywood. I was thinking of trying that out first. I can't seem to find a handsaw that will do the job properly. It doesn't seem to want to cut through the wood except for my jeweller's hacksaw. I think i'll try a hacksaw but i'm considering getting a powertool. Whats the difference between a reciprocating saw and a jigsaw. It looks almost the same except for the way it is held. Which is a better and more flexible choice. I don't really have a place to work so i'll have to do it outside the door or in the living room and clean up later…

They are some photos of my Boeing 737-800 :http://www.opencockpits.com/uploads/mvc/IMGP0067c.jpghttp://www.opencockpits.com/uploads/mvc/IMGP0081c.jpghttp://www.opencockpits.com/uploads/mvc/IMGP0084c.jpghttp://www.opencockpits.com/uploads/mvc/IMGP0085c.jpgThis is not only my work. Some friends help me to build. This cockpit is a base of new improvements in cockpits builds :- Throttle quadrant with a controller for 4 DC-motors for SBreaks, AutoTH motor 1 and 2, and trim. servo-motor for trim indicator, etc.- Use of IOCards for all electronics (gauges included, like compass with stepper motors, servo-motors for flaps, ADI...)- Use of SIOC for IOCards and simulations.- Use of …

Hello all,I'm building a modest 763 pit based on LDS FSBUS 2.4.1.1 FSCONV 4.09and latest FSIF by George Dorkofikis.I have 3 questions.1. I cant get the MCP_HDG to work, on FSBUS ROUTER i can see the rotary works fine but it has no influence on the sim or the display.2. VS works fine for increase, when trying to decrease (starting at 0 fpm)its not showing a minus but starts to count from 65436 down...3. How do i define the ILS radio? Thanks in advance to all helpers !!!Menni

Hi Everyone, Can someone point me in the right direction towards a site with dimensions for a 737 Throttle? I saw one a couple of years ago, but have not been able to come up with anything in recent searches. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi all,I need to post a key-event when a rotary switch is turned. The key posted should either be "N" if the switch is turned to the right or "M" if turned to the left. I'm using FSBUS Router 2.4.1.1.Is there a chance to do that??I heard that you can probably separate the commands using the pipe character:"Then there's the "pipe" character | that separates rotaries - when a switch becomes "1" it does the event *on the right side* of the pipe, and when a switch becomes -1 (or was it 0? Cant remember now) then it does the sequence on the left side."but it seems that this method does not work any more...Thanks for your help!

Hello everyone.I have just joined this forum as I am starting to build a GA simulator. Most of my flying as a PPLIMC has been on Piper PA28 and Robin 2160 with just a few Cessna hours. My first cockpit build is around a simkits panel so will have to be C172 based. My main reason for the build is a totally imersive instrument trainer so I can keep upto speed in this area without a safty pilot and foggles.I have lots of grand ideas as I'am sure everyone does at the start but my main requirement is to be sat inside a cockpit enclosure with the only views of the outside world being computer generated.I hope to have a front view and both side views. My job is IT so the computer si…

Our Air Cadet Squadron is building a Flight Sim Based on a Grob Tutor (RAF's 115E)using a Projector, Simkits instruments and CH Flight Sticks and Rudder Pedals in a resonably accurate sized Cockpit. I was thinking of purchasing a CH Throttle quadrant and cutting it up to make it a Single Engine set up plus using one Stick to control the Flaps and one for the Trim Wheel. But it seems a lot of money to pay to cut something up. So as I have a Simkits CCU and a Simkits Multi Controller board with spare capacity is there any way that I can make a the Throttle, Prop and Mixture, Flaps and Trim for not a lot of money and use the Simkits systems to read the settings and relay the…

Would anyone have the measurments of a Boeing 777 throttle unit, or maybe someone is using a unit built by AGT or FDS, that could help me out??? Im just looking for basic height, width, and a side profile would be greatThanks Steve

I always ask me about the real function of the reverse leversin a 737 for example. When the throttles are in idle you can drag the reverse levers.Does these levers control directly the reverse power (the more you drag the more power you've)orWhen you drag the levers it switch the reverse and you've to push the throttle forward to give reverse power ?In summary do I put a switch or a potentiometer on my reverse levers ?Thank'sBOB

Hi all...I wonder if anyone can help me.I have set up my autopilot switches using Mouser pushbutton switches with little LED's in. For some reason I can't get the LED's to go on when I push the appropriate Autopilot feature button.1) I have flashed the FSLED controller and everything seemed fine2) Under each AP switch I set my FS destination according to the AP feature e.g Alt HoldQuestion: Should I also include a LED destination in the switch section ? Some of the examples in FSBUS have an MCP.LED in the switch3) I added an LED under the AP feature and added the AP feature in the LED destination 4) I also did a FSLED random test to see if the LEDS work and none of them c…

For those with realplayer, check this outhttp://tigert.1g.fi/video/gns.3gpApologies for the crappy cellphone quality and weird codec.(since someone will ask anyway, it's a Reality-xp.com GNS gauge, with IOCards supplying keyboard shortcuts to invoke the button presses, a PSOne LCD on my TV Out showing the gauge itself, and www.schaeffer-ag.de -engraved frontpanel of my own design. And some nasty soldering behind for the buttons)Now excuse me, but I need to go back pressing the funky buttons and watching them blinkenlights! WOOHOO! 8-)//T
