I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone.Okay, here's the deal.I want to set-up a simple FSX cockpit for things like 737, 747 or any jet, to be honest, or even one that can be used with a cessna for easy low altitude flying. Take into account I would like to make this a "desktop" pilot, with perhaps the 3 monitors (see below) on a wall shelf. Here's what I have:two LCD monitors (one 19 inch, one 20 inch) i can get one moretwo laptops (one with a 15 inch screen)Desktop computer (pentium 4, 1gig RAM, 7600 card)Saitek pro joy and throttle (willing to get a yoke like the CH with throttle, etc)going to get pedalsI imagine the following:the 2 monitors (or 3 once I add one) se…

I am new, both to these forums as well as cockpit building, and I'm trying to find some good info on getting started. I have FSX and a basic stamp 2, and I figure I'll need to do the following:1. Interface all my gadgets, pots, switches and leds to the BS2. I've already got some practice on this.2. Write programs to interface the BS2 to the PC through my serial port, I've got a vague idea on how to do this.3. Use simconnect to get FSX talking to my PC side interface program to pass data back and forth from the BS2. I have NO idea how to do this :)Am I close or off my rocker? I am searching the forums here and elsewhere, but I am hoping someone else knows of some good info…

I'm planning to build a light, portable and self contained panel with an LCD monitor and some controls. I don't have experience, tools and workspace so I need a frame that is easy to put together. I basically need a scaled up version of an Erector or Meccano set.I'm in the US.Thanks for any information!

Now this is a clever little idea.....http://www.user.dccnet.com/wrigter/picaxe/...d%20encoder.htmAlthough specifically designed for a PICAXE chip, it would work with anything that has an analogue to digital conversion, such as a digital joystick.Richard

Hi, Im considering using the Reality XP software in a dual seat generic corporate cockpit project. I plan to use a Matrox Tripple Head to Go for the outside visuals off of one PC. Would it be possible to run the Reality XP gauges on the second head off of the same computer? Also, If I wanted to run the PFD and ND on both sides propperly, with the two mirroring each other instead of mere duplicates, does the Reality software allow this for the Jet Line 4?Thanks,Eric T

Some months ago someone pointed to this US supplier who offered a number of USB interface panels for cockpit switches and lights, including one which had a key operated switch to simulate engine start. The products were very competitively priced. Can someone give me a link for this please? I have searched but can't find it.--Bryn

I'm considering using a two-monitor set up, one of which will be a touch-screen. I'd like to put the out-the-window view on one monitor, and put the main panel on the touch screen. This way, I should be able to punch buttons right on the screen, rather than having to mouse around, or program the commands on the keyboard or joystick.Seems easier and cheaper than trying to build an actual cockpit.Does anybody have any experience with this? Do you think it will work well?

I've just placed two MasterPilot programmable units on Ebay. Great units for cockpit builders still using older pc. Will only work with pc keyboards--not USB. Program an unlimited number of keyboard presses.tony

hi to you alli hope you can help me with my FSBUS network, i cant get it to work as it should, here is a step by step guide to what I did and please correct me where I am going wrong.1. This is where I started --Start--control panel--maintenance--system--hardware--devices and continued on to the ports from there to the FSBUS port which is "USB serial communication"on PC2.I continued to change the port settings to COM4 and exited then I went on to PC3 and changed the FSBUS to COM4.Both COMS are connected then I started a test to see if it was working. In PC2 I have the overhead configuration and the FSBUS is working ok and in PC3 is the radios and TQ and FMC that wont work o…

A couple of photos of my latest project...A fellow builder was kind enough to send me dimensions from a real 727 throttle quadrant along with a series of detailed photos for my build. Along with several other photo sources, this is the result so far.Sorry about the imgage quality.

Here's an idea. I have been looking at this site: http://home.hccnet.nl/jwopdenakker/building%20tip.htmlNow this guy is using this "print on lexan" for his knobs & annunciators. But how about using this for panels as well ?The question is, if this printing can be done in grey (exact color as my other real F50 panels). If so, I could have all panels printed. The panels go grey and the text & stripes & such stay unprinted (so transparent). Then if I glue these sheets on white plexi panels, the text & stripes & such will look white and at night, light will come trough. Now for the final trick .. I would need paint with the exact same color as the s…

Hi... Have any of the people using Knitter switches had a problem with hardware failures? I have one switch that no longer reads when turned clockwise, and one that no longer reads when turned A/CW.They're both in high use spots, so they've been turned a LOT in the three years or so since I bought them.Richard

I am have almost completed my first homemade MCP and wanted to share it you folks. Just need to finish the V/S display and add a few more functions, but it is 95% funtional and has been a blast to play with so far! Like many of you, I cannot afford to go out a buy one (with getting a good arse kicking for my wife), so building this was my only realistic option.I have used the opencockpits I/O card for this project and have suprised myself that even I could get this up and running. As usual, it seems that most of the fun is building this stuff, talking with other people with the community and some trial and error....its about the journey.Next step...... learn how to progra…

I am looking to create (or buy) a small USB device that will allow me to do the following:- Tune the NAV1 and NAV2, and COMM1 and COMM2 radios- Rotate the Course for NAV1 and OBS for NAV2 VOR- Optional: possibility for expansion to assign more functions. It can be very generic. I don't care about the looks as long as I can understand what's active and easily use it. I saw on the AVSIM store that there is a do-it-yourself selection of knobs, switches, etc. Are these easy to assemble and how difficult are they to setup with FSX? Does anyone have any suggestions for something like this?I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, so I was thinking the build-your-own would be…
