This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

First post here. I rather like Fly2 as I enjoy the selection of planes, the better flight dynamics, and the more detailed panels over the typical microsft offerings. However, one thing I don't like is the fact that in my typical area of flight ( Central Pennsylvania) the scenery is grossly in-complete (susquehanna river missing). How could such a prominent feature of this region have been overlooked? I mean, it's only the widest un-navagable river in the US (1 mile in the harrisburg region) and the primary source of the chesapeake bay. Can anyone get me on track with terrascene and give me tips on how I might fill out the missing features of my home area? Or, does a…

Hi David,With the help of Lefteris Kalamaras, I'm now officially part of the Protodev group. So I have their agreement to continue the SquawkBox development for Fly! II.I have many idea of enhancement of course and first of all, I've tried to implement automatic weather retreiving from the virtual ATC environment. At the moment I have to download the metar from the nearest airport, then save it a temp file to ask fly! to load it.- 1. it's not an elegant and fast solution (temp file use)- 2. the importation (APILoadMetar() ) seems to be buggy, even with last patch.I know you are the specialist of metar in Fly!, and probably know all the input value to be corrected before Fl…

Howdy Folks! My fingers are tired and I can barely see the screen due to my detached retinas. The project is finished, look for it on the server tomorrow. All files have been uploaded. The USGS and Manually-Added files are in two separate downloads. Of course you must download them first before you can render the sceneries. Enjoy and please post feedback. I'd like to get a group of us together to map certain areas of the country with Tiger2000 shapefiles. Many Thanks to Randall Rocke and Wayne Roberts! Wayne, I'm completing a list of airports of interest throughout the state for you to check out and Terramodel those you'd like to do at your leisure. Will try to…

Ok im new at this but I have to say that this forum is the best foranswering questions...I was able to create taxiways for a airport that had none at all without posting a single question and in the same time got a few questions answered that are out there1 the data dir in fly2 has files that need to be there...hide them and make them write protected...windows explorer set to do not show hidden files...presto..dir is empty.2 podded taxi files in the taxiways dir work..they do not need to be in the data dir...they do need "this one stumped me for a couple of days" to be only 3 charectors in length tyr not ktyr. "usa aiports only" overseas=4 char 2 make a poly for a parki…

in using Truspace 3.2 for making panels for Fly! I have started some tutorials on my site. I have a few links to some tutorials that have nothing to do with panel creation but are useful in learning how to use Truespace. I also have a "quickie" overview of some of the tools in Truespace and the first 8 pages of the panel tutorial. The panel tutorial when finished will cover from start to finish how to create a panel for Fly! including converting the .bmp image and importing the converted panel image into Fly!. It will also cover how to add details like screw heads, placards, gauge face borders, etc. It will cover how to use the cameras in Truespace to make side views a…

Hi!I converted SRTM-Data using 3DEM to USGS DEM-Files. The result ist a File with the extension .DEM . Then I copied this file to the DEM Subdirectory. How can I use this file in Terrascene ?If I select the Checkbox "USGS", Terrascene wants to download DEM-Data instead of using my local data.Any idea what I am doing wrong ?Thank youHarald

Is anyone able to provide me with some 1-2-3 steps for converting msfs engine sounds into fly2 sounds. We could gain a lot from this, but my first experiments have not been promising....thanks.tony

It was simple. You fill out minimal information, such as your name and interestes, and you can download v 3.6 without any time limits or conditions. Thanks, Caligari.tony

Hi Folks, I am trying to TS Part of the prairies of Saskatchewan but have a couple of questions: I TS'ed a quarter tile around Fort Qu'appelle lakes & flew across it but near the East end of the quarter I got the error message - Can't load texture Datad181169Fulltex2.raw File not found. File:texture.cpp Line 1376.Also the shapefiles I get through Arcexplorer2, although very limited does have a shapefile for populated places showing small towns but when I try to map the file PPPoint.shp which does have a type description, all I get as choice to map it to is various roads, railroads, streams or pole lines. Is there any way of getting it to give me the main menu which in…

Hi,I have just uploaded a new build of TerraShape to my Hangar site. The E00 extraction routines have been completely re-written and now work (for me) with whatever file I throw at it.There are also some other goodies in there such as 3d mesh generation etc. :-}Desmond. The Canadian data that was giving problems now extracts perfectly.EnjoyColinMy Hanger Site

Hi all!I left Fly! 2 and Flight sims in general about a year and a half ago when the USGS pulled the data off their server. The latest patch (then)for Fly! 2 still left bugs, etc. I gave it another try with the latest patches and I'm just amazed!Anyway, I'm using Terrascene 2.1 and rendering the San Fernando Valley/Van Nuys Airport area, and I have this strange Green Square island in the ocean, and when I peek at the water mask, sure enough, a big white square in the ocean (where I assume there is no USGS data). What is the best fix? Fill in the area of mask with black and recreate the pod? Also, what is the best proceedure for uninstalling my old pod? I think all I have t…

I've written to Mathews about , but am curious if anyone else knows the answer. When I load a panel, not all guages show up with the yellow borders around them. These are guages that have very specific references and should show up. What happens is that if the loaded panel file is saved and replaces the FLY2 pnl file, these guages then will not show up in the panel. Essentially, the new saved pnl file deletes all text that refers to those guages that initially don't get loaded. Of course, the new FLY2 panel, edited by Panel Maker, now has guages missing.tony

Hi, I had given up on FLY II about a year and a half ago, decided to try it again, and have been pleasantly surprised...I am a happy camper now!! Here is my question. I am using Terrascene 2.1 to generate some sceneryin my area. I have roads, fields, cities, night textures, etc. My problem isthat my bridges have turned into tunnels. If viewed from above, they arethere...just underwater. I am sure this issue has been addressed in the past. Have tried searchingthe forum for an answer but have had no luck. Any suggestions for a fix?? Thanks in advance, Dave

If you fly around on the IVAO network, you know that the voice system changed from RogerWilco to TeamSpeak 2.We don't have any tool like "rwts" for FS to switch automatically the the correct channel in TS2 when we choose a new ATC frequency in SB.I would like to make this tool for the community, but thinking of it, the best way I see is modify Squawk Box 3.02 from Lefteris Kalamaras. We could retrieve the channel name during the ATIS message reception and then send the command to TS2.I think Lefteris is really busy with PDMG and have no time to give anymore support on SB 3.02 so, 2 questions :- Where can I find the dev guidelines for TS2 mastering ?- Did L.Kalamaras relea…
