This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Here is how I make day and night models out of Vins and Haralds models!First I start off with the original tiff file and the new textures Im using. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72061.jpg With Photoshop I make the day texture and then out of the day texture I make a night texture. Note how I have renamed each tiff file.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72063.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72064.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72065.jpgI change/rename the original xxxx.smf file. Then copy it change/rename it to xxxxn.smfSo now you have 2 new .smf files in your models folder and 2 new .tiff files in your art folder. Remember to open the .smf files and chan…

If I TerraScene an area, then remove the TerraScenery, is it still possible to add an airport without the runway headings being messed up?? I tried to add in 93B (Stonington, ME) but keep getting the Magnetic heading as 314 deg instead of 250 deg... Or could it be my import of a few buildings with FSImport playing havoc with my heading? Is there some sort of order to to inputting an airport into the databases before one adds a runway... i.e. should one do the airport pod first, DEXimport it, then comm/dex import, then runway, etc??Und... if I have a runway 07/25, is it listed as having two runways, or one? :-hmmmMany thanks!Ken Wood :-sun1http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly…

Hello,I need someone's help. I began installing Fly! Ontario Scenery and now have messed up my Simflyers Toronto Scenery. Admittedly, I did not read the instructions carefully, nor had a fully understanding of what I was doing. Very dumb!!I am using FS2002. I burned all my photos and documents and did a complete System Recovery using the CDs I received when I purchased the computer. This, still has not fixed the problem. The problem is as follows:The Simflyers Airport is still there. The buildings and other features are still there. However, the taxiways signs, gates, and who-knows-what-else are missing. I thought by completing a System Recovery that this would solve…

Just a note to let anyone who is interested know that I uploaded some tinkered UI windows last night. They are the "Directory" and "Navigation Log" windows which I have added column titling information. I tend to use the internal flight planner infrequently, and when I do, I forget what some of the information means. For experienced users it may be of little use, but newbies might find it a help. Anyway give it a try if you like, and let me know how you find this very small addition to FlyII.You'll find them in the FlyII Navigation section of the file library titled "fplantitles.zip"Ken:-cool

When I light up the guages, I get guages with light streaks accross.Since this is a custom guage, I can only assume that there is some inconsistency between the pbm and raw file combination. Can anyone shed some light on this puzzle?tony

I am in the process of designing an aircraft panel and find that the process is made much easier by utilizing bits and pieces of 3D panels designed for other aircraft by other designers and perhaps from other flight sims (MSFS & X-Plane for example). My question is, what are the legal issues with this approach? Are these panels under copyright and if so, how do I go about getting approval for their use and alteration? This issue also arises with flight systems. I take it that using existing default FlyII gauge and panel systems is allowed, but what about utilizing systems designed by others. For example, the PMDG777 PFD is far closer to a real 737 PFD than the exis…

Hi everbody... just a quick question. I've downloaded Truespace V3.2 so I could have a go at designing aircraft for FlyII. But it would appear that it does not export a model as S3d. Is there a way to convert .cob models to .s3d format. IF anyone could give me some advice on this, i'd be most thankful.Jason Briggs.

Hi!I'm playing around with the statement so I can use the external model. While this works OK with non-scrollable panels, with the main one, the model quickly disappears, especially when the panel size is almost 2000x2000. The only way to avoid this is by removing the .pnl file in the .pit file and everything gets nicely centered again. It seems like some setting in the pnl file has some relationship with the .cam files...I'm wondering if you've ran across any documentation about additional parameters that can be used in the .CAM file. The ones I'm already aware of are (displays the 3D model), (offsets the view of the helicopter's rotor), (reduces the scroll rate at w…

G'day all,After 3 solid days of trying I have finally managed to get my first two models into Fly! II :-jumpy BUT, geez, in the process I must have had every possible error message conceivable. :-)My question is a very simple one. If I have a jpg graphic in Photoshop, what do I have to do to get 3dsMax to recognise it as a material in the material library?Attached is the fruits of my effort so far. Cheers,Roger @YSSY
