This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi All,I did a bit of terrascene work for FLY! 2k using terrascene 2.0. All worked well and the scenery was beautiful. I tried to load Terrascene 2.1 so that I could make the scenery for FLY! 2 and see how it looks there. I am using the same shape files as before and I tried to use the same segments as before and then I tried again without using the same segments. I get the following error whilst it is trying to render. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also saved projects get an error. And these are created with Terrascene 2.1. Something about the sun???!!??!??!All help is appreciatedPatrick Martinhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/15479.jpg

Are there a lot of geographical features missing from the default fly2 scenery library? I ask because as a resident of South Central PA. my home airports would be kcxy, kmdt, and kseg. One prominent feature missing from the scenery of my home area is the Susquehanna River which is pretty notable in the central region of PA and it isn't there in Fly 2. Can Terrascene handle a modification like that where I could add this specific river myself? It sort of elludes me how such a prominate terrain feature as the principle contributor to the Chesapeake Bay could have been overlooked especially since Austin Meyer knows of it as does Mr. Gate's team.

Again, I'm making an attempt to TerraScene my area using a PC at work to use with Fly! II on my Mac at home. During the process of rendering the scenery, I get the following error message: caught exception downloading http://www.wingswithwires.com:8080/7.5min/..._NH.sdts.tar.gzFollowed by this error:exception=java.net.ConnectionException: Connection refused: connect, Connection refused: connect... will retry in 5 seconds... retrying. This is as far as I can get and I haven't got a clue what the error message means or what to do. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks a bunch!Rich@KLEWBeige G3 233 MHz DT rev.1 G4 400 MHz NewerTech upgrade OS 9.2.2 /Jaguar384 MB RAM ATI…

Doing my first repaint and was surprised at how innacurate the FLY! version is regards its sheetmetal. I have not found enough close up photos on the web, especially of the tail section and aft fuselage. Does the plane actually have rivets that are viewable? It doesn't appear so for the pressurized portion or nose but the rear fuselage might. Send the pics to [email protected]. I have DSL so size is no worry. Thanks!! JamesHmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!

Hello Everyone,I've got two questions today. I'd like to do a repaint of the Pilatus and possibly attempt a new aircraft from scratch. I thought there were some tutorials out there but cannot find them. The new aircraft would be the G-73 Mallard. I have no idea where to start or how long it would take. Never done it before and if its tougher then good scenery to do I just might have to wait for FLY! III!Next, When starting the game I modified the fly.ini for the startup aircraft, runway and airport. Can I specify exactly where on the tarmac the plane will be? At KPBI, if you're a private craft you're parking is on the SE side of the airport and for realism's sake I…

I recall a post a while back regarding a beta version of a panel program for placing gauges in Fly!II. I am unable to find that post now (possibly removed?). Can anyone give some information or a link for more information. Actually I am looking to incorporate the EFIS displays and controls from the Pilatus into the King Air panel and the FMS out of the Hawker into the King Air's pedestal. Don't know if it will work but a visual program that would allow such things would be a real time saver over *.pnl editing then trying out the results.Zane

I have installed terramodels and am now unable to select one of the buildings from the FlyII scenery editor without it crashing to desktop. The vehicles, windsock, and towers still function. Is there a way around this problem or does one have to decide either to use the Fly scenery editor or terramodels?:-hmmm

HiHas anyone been able to use the GTOPO30 dem file viewer by Ashley Ruaux under XP?I recall using it under previous OSs (98, ME etc.) but it won't run for me on XP. I get a memory and/or commdlg32 error mesage. It's not a huge problem as plenty of other apps will display the data but there were some useful tools in there.Colin

It doesn't seem to include the folder (directory) in the POD. Am I doing anything wrong?I drag the folder I want to POD into the program. I enter the information. I click GENERATE POD. The POD is generated, but when I open the POD, no FOLDER information is present.Without the folder information, the POD really can't be used.I don't think I'm overlooking anything, but what am I missing?Jeff

I know this might be a bit of a headache to do, but if I purchased the PMDG 757 or 777, could I use the associated files for the FMS and displays to make the corresponding gauges in the Hawker work? I've been looking into the files associated with the panels and as long as the panel files for the PMDG aircraft use a similar layout, I would think you could rewrite some of the Hawker's panel language to access the increased functionality that these payware products offered. Just a thought... if you think it too big a PAI (that's not Project AI!) tell me :)Zane

Hello again and thank you for all your input, I enjoy this site almost as much as the FlyII program.I have been trying to look into the files used in the ROTW's TBM700 EFIS display to discover why there is an exit to desktop when switching the Nav1 source. The Hawker has an EFIS with similar functionality and no glitches in Win2k/XP. I was curious if anyone else had looked into this and what their results had been.Zane

Gonna ask here too. I just installed Fly!II on my dad's iMac... 3 CD's worth! Wondered if all the charts he got would work on my PC and how I could go about getting them there. I have a USB zip-drive which worked to give him the patch and ROTW's TBM700.Zane

I use a CH USB Pro Yoke and would like to have the gear assignment to one of the toggles so that up is up and down is down. I can't find in the key assignment how to do this... only one for "landing gear" (each press cycles the gear) or "force gear down." Would it be a big PItA to make a file to accomplish this or has it already been done and I didn't use the right wording on a search?Zane
