This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

When loading Terrascene the program wants the me to find the fly2slice.exe, where in the world is this file, I can't find it anywhere. For Terramodel 2.1, what folder should I install this package within FLyII?Thank you for your response.

I'm getting a CTD when trying to place objects in FlyII editor. As soon as I try to right click on a object in the title bar. It crashes. Has something changed with the new patch? everything else is working just fine. I can use TM and place objects with no CTD. Just a little more time consuming then the editor. Anybody else having problems like this?TonyWhy Oh .... Good afternoon,Since a few month, I try to code a DLL which is supposed to create interactive Force feedback effects in Fly!II.I'm quite happy of the actual state of it, except I didn't find out how I could retrieve the real Flaps position (fo buffeting simulation purpose).I've tried to use the message system, as shown by Laurent Claudet (PA-19 failure sample C++) in this way :{ g_sMessage.id = MSG_GETDATA; g_sMessage.group = 'flap'; g_sMessage.dataType = TYPE_INT; g_sMessage.user.u.hw = HW_FLAP; g_sMessage.user.u.unit = 1; APISendMessage(&g_sMessage);}But I've never retrieve any useful informations :-((In fact, I'm looking for a generic solution (aircraft inde…

I am flying the b1900 as a regional airliner, but, for some reason, its ils lock in behavior is outright crazy: the plane keeps on chasing the needle--not matter how far away from the airport I lock in the ils. Why does it overreact so much, and I do I get into it to fix it? The plane otherwise handles nicely and, manually, it's a pure joy.tony

"Persistent world" option enables one to fly like in real life, that is, you start from one airport and stop at another. When you leave FLY2, it will remember the exact location as well as plane condition that you left it with. Unfortunately, there does no seem to be any way to import a flight plan into the gps without using the "flight planner, the adventure or "saved scenery" options, all of which restart FLY2 and break the "persistent mode". FLY2 has the "checklist" option that perhaps could be used to save a flight plan to, and then to use it to program the saved flight plan into the gps manually. This is for someone to shed some light into this.tony

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change the Altimeter subscale setting in Fly2 aircraft to display hectopascals instead of millimeters of mercury? Being an Aussie flyer and living in the metric world, it would help with my real world flying training to be able to set the altimeter to the correct QNH. I'm also interested in tinkering with aircraft settings.Thanks,Ken.:-rotor 'Flying isn't dangerous.....crashing is!' :-lol

MMMM, I just created new taxiways and they don't seem to show up in the program. They do show up in the vector map. Any ideas?tony

Does any one know which is the linein the SVH file that changes the angle from which the pilot looks at the cockpit panel? thanks.tony

Does anyone know if the FlyII export file is compatible with FSDS V2??A funny thing happened..... maybe someone can explain it.I exported a small test model from FSDS V2 to a 3ds model.I ran FlyII, imported it, saved it... did a "view model" and there it was. looking really nice. I even put in mylocal scenery using TerraModels. Looked good.I then created a new model, exported-imported, saved it... but then, when I did a "view model"it was the same one I created earlier. EVEN when I deleted every model I had created, re-created another, went through the same procedure, then did a view model ... bam, still the same first one.In other words, no matter what model I export now,…

I have attached my Fly2K Terrascene made with TS2.0 and compared it to TS2.1 scenery of the same area for FlyII(South Florida...Miami Beach) with no editing on either one.The top scenery is of Fly2K and looks fantastic. The bottom is of FlyII and the coastlines and water look terrible. Also the bridges are missing...What is going on?How can I fix this?I posted this on the Fly General Forum also.Any help would be appreciated.Tony in Miami

Anyone have new links for the tutorials.I am trying to make some scenery with TS2.1 and it saved a huge *.tga file, but I don't know how to process it for Fly II.Any help would be appreciated,Thanks,Tony in Miami

Just finished rendering scenery with TS, looks great, but the night textures don't kick in.I can see the day and night TGA in the output folder, and the scenery folder has my scenery in it (the pod and the scf file). When I go to slew mode, and move over the scenery and advance the time (with T), the towns and highways don't light up.I welcome your help!

I'm creating a Python file and cannot get it to run.I modified a script created by Rich and placed it in the "C:Program FilesTerminal RealityFly! IImodulesscriptsglobal" directory. I've placed other scripts created by Rich, unmodified here as well.I'm patched to 2.40 and the pydll.dll is located in the "systemsmodulespc" directory.I cannot get it to work; I get no error messages when running Fly! II; I do not get any files with the .pyc extension (meaning they compiled)What am I overlooking?Again, I've also used standard, unmodified .py files created by Rich and no luck.Surely, someone has run into this...Jeff

Its been awhile since I've been to the boards here. Just re-installed FlyII and updated to the latest version. I cant remember if Terramodel & Terrascene are compatiable or not. Can they both be installed at the same time? I seem to remember reading somewhere that they cant work together with FlyII. TonyWhy Oh .... As some of you may know, there has always been some ability to simulate system failures in Fly! 2 (to a lesser extent in Fly! as well). There are some limitations and I think a few bugs overall, but what has really been missing is a convenient UI for setting up the failures. I've had a failures DLL project on the back burner for a long time now, and just dusted it off last night to see where it was at. I'll upload a demo DLL this weekend with source code for those who are interested, both here at AVSIM and on FlyDevelopers.com. Note that this isn't a "demo" in the sense of a trial version of a more complete project; it's basically just a dump of what I have so far, th…

I noticed an option in the advanced rendering options:NightLights cutOffPercent=20.What I would like to get as a result is all towns, big and small lit up at night.Does the above setting allow me to fix this? Thanks for all your input.

Have you ever given any thought to making a version of TerraScene for FS2002? I know many of us use it to make photorealistic texture for FS2002, and now with the demise of Fly! I was wondering if you ever gave it any thought. I know many would love to have a version....Richard L Hill

Fly2 is all patched up, no problems. Now however, I get this error when trying to render my scene:exeption = java.net.UnknownHostException: edcftp.cr.usgs.gov,edcftp.cr.usgs.govIs this a java error? What can I do to fix it?Thanks!

Can FlyII cockpit gauges and systems be extracted to display individually on a monitor in a homemade simulator? FlyII is one of the most realisitic simulators I have found, but to get the full experience, I would like to display the cockpit panel guages separately to the outside view. Looking at the many websites on this topic I see that MSFS2000/2002 is used extensively along with other programs like Aerowinx Precision Simulator, it would be a shame if FlyII could not also be used in this sort of high level realism. The minimum would be to display the aircraft panel on one monitor and the outside view on another (or via LCD projector). Is there any development on thi…

Plenty of European shapefiles for Terrascene... and conversion problems too! The lacks of data outside US is a well know problem, and shapefiles hunt is really a sport, especially for non-profit users like me (the no-bucks-and-medals hunting's men, except chocolate ones).Fortunately, those data for road and hydro networks can be recovered from some cheap software carto ressources such as this one :Route Europe (www.route66.com), a raster to vector converters's delight! All the layers are individually selectable and there are plenty of details too : even small district roads are present and not so angle fitted. Of course, some form of line "smoothing" may be helpfull and …

Hi everyone,I'm just kicking around a few ideas here, and could do with some feedback. Basically, I was wondering if any of you guys would find a panel maker/editor useful. It would enable panels to be constructed visually, and parameters for gauges to be easily set via an interface. I would also throw in some tools to make pbg and pbm files directly from bitmaps and other such useful stuff. It would initially support the basic Fly!II gauges (all the gauges to make a decent working panel), and I'll probably put in a couple of useful custom gauges that I've found I needed whilst making the DC10.If anyone thinks this would be a good idea let me know (I don't want to get …
