This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

For anyone interested, I uploaded the gxx.trn files for globe tile d200160. Bradford is in the northwest corner and Lockhaven is in the southeast corner of the globe tile. The gxx.trn files flatten the West Branch of the Susquehanna R. and its tributaries and other streams.

I have finally managed to get through my project. The only thing remaining is a little thing called "pod"-ing. I'm currently having a little problem getting this to work properly but expect to get things sorted out soon.In the mean time, enjoy a couple of screenshots :-)Oh, just for the record, this is Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. When I added the ac_defaultFix.pod in the aircraft folder, it clearly added fixes and modifications to the existing aircrafts. Now, can somebody explain to me how does this work as opposed to having to individually modify each specific aircraft pod. For example, if I want to modify a default panel, do I modify the original pod or do I simply create another pod that interacts with the original. Thanks.tony

g'day all,I recently updated from photoshop 5.0 to photoshop 7.0 and found that when I tried to modify pbm files made with vers 5.0 using version 7.0 that no matter what I did I couldn't maintain window transparancy even though the rgb values of 0,0,0, were maintained in the index colour files.I've gone back to version 5.0 because I know it works with Fly!Anyone else using version 7.0 notice any problems?Cheers,Roger @YSSY

The Pilatus has the HSI button( a round black button with a red center) in the center console. I want to duplicate this button so that during flight I can use the "pilot's view" to change HSI heading.I have successfully converted the graphics and now I am in the *.pnl section. I am assuming that I need to make duplicate entries, except for the location of the new button and, of course, give it a new unique id. Am I on the right track? tony

HiCan anyone point me to a site that I can get shapefile data in UTM projection?I am interested in the Southern Hemisphere primarily, for testing purposes.ThanksColin

I have downloaded my entire state of shape files.*lka roads*lkb rails*lkc misc transport*lkd land marks*lkh hydrographylpy landmark polygons*wat water polygones1. Do I need more/or less files?2. Are the *SHP file all I need to keep?2. Once in digital maps and I select a county, how do I define shape file attributes foe each?3. Do I have to do this for each county?I would be greatful if someone would E-mail me a sample and or suggestions or tips. As DLG files are no longer updated they are of little use. A lake built and opened in 1988 is not in the 1994 DlG data [email protected] L Hill;

I have unpodded the *.pnl file from the aircraft.pod file. I've edited it, but now I cannot repod it. When I try using the "Podocreator", it tells me that there's insufficient memory. When I highlight the file in the pod in order to associate it with a word processor, I cannot do it. What's the trick? thanks.tony

Gosh I`m drowning in my mail! Everyone is asking me where to find Biberall.pod and TM21_256.pod for the Enzv2 scenery.May I have your permission to upload those two files at Flighsim.no?That would make life much easier for me >:-)

HiIs it possible to change/create new taxiways for an Fly II airport with existing deafult taxiways? I tried to do it with Peter Jacobsons Taxiway Editor for ESSA (Stockholm, Arlanda) airport, but FlyII ignore my created taxiways and view instead the deafult taxiways. I really want to change the ESSA taxiways because the default ones are very bad and are not correct.

If you haven't tried out USAPhotoMaps give it a try. I used it to download aerial black and white photos of Yosemite Valley, colored them in a little and placed it on top of a TerraScene .tga in PhotoShop Elements, then put the .tga back in terrascene to slice and pod the file. I know I need to work on the color a little more but it's great fun and not terribly difficult or time consuming to do.Don

Paul,I've downloaded your photo scenery of the Manchester/Merseyside/North Wales area but sadly something appears to me missing. Namely some textures I think as it crashes FlyII with the following error message 'Cant load texture datad254172977f99e04.raw' or similar. Please advise what the missing bit of the puzzle is as i'm quite looking forward to seeing your work as I live somewhere near both EGCC and EGCD.

Look for this one coming soon (maybe tomorrow or on the weekend) at FlyDevelopers.com. It just needs a proofread and I'll send it off to Robby for uploading. It's another short PDF that walks through the pitot/static subsystems for the TRI Flyhawk, including the port specifications in the .PSS file, and associated instruments in the .AMP file.Cheers,Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada
-
This next one is a short PDF that walks through the power generation and distribution system of the TRI Flyhawk, showing how dependency subsystems in the AMP file link together power sources such as the main battery and alternator, with the switches, fuses and busses that actually power the individual instruments and avionics.I've tried to cover a lot of basics so that it will be useful for the newbie aircraft designer...if there are areas that are unclear let me know and I'll post a revision if I can.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Finally a utility that will allow us to import MSFS 98-2000-2002 scenery into FLYII Scenery, 3D buildings and objects, Taxiways, Taxyway's Yellow Ribbon, etc... Looks pretty cool!! I am in the process of converting one Airport right now... we will see...Cheers!Javier.

I have sent a first preview draft of the Gauge Reference Guide to FlyDevelopers.com. It is a PDF file, almost 300 pages, that is a first attempt at cataloging all of the default gauge types with some commentary and an example of each type. There is a sample page attached below. There are still bound to be quite a few omissions and errors, but it's a good start I think. Please save a tree and don't print this quite yet, wait for a later more complete draft. Please send any corrections my way and I'll incorporate them in the next draft...thanks!I have also sent Robby a short text file describing the overall panel specification in the NFO, PIT and CAM files.Chris WallaceOt…

Hello,Based on the research and work by Javier "Flight" Rodriguez et-al ...thank you all ... it really adds to the airport atmosphere whenthings are moving around you ! I have managed to get 2 airplanesand 1 little truck moving at the same time around a small airport !However ... ( there's always one of these "howevers" ...isn't there ),the models move great ... but I'd like to know if there's someway of making the external aircraft lights turn "on" ! One of my dynamic models is based on the "Flyhawk" .... and I have foundthe "FLYHAWK.ELT" file which defines the external aircraft lights ...but I do not know how to turn them "on". If someone knows howto do this ... it …

To anybody who's interested...I have started sending a bunch of short explanatory articles to Robby at FlyDevelopers.com, basically I'm just cleaning out some of the incoherent scribblings I've made of the years of playing around with the guts of Fly! and Fly! 2. This is a very low-bandwidth activity for me so it will take a while to get everything sorted out and uploaded. They are meant to supplement TRI's design notes available here in the library, not replace them.If there are any specific requests for info then post them here and I'll try to reply (via a new article on FlyDevelopers.com) if I can fill in the details. And of course if you spot any errors or omission…

Hi guys,In my Kristiansand (Encn) scenery, I imported elevation data for the first, and last time. Because of a resolution bug, I get white, jagged edges where the Terrascenery meets the default scenery.A way to avoid this is to update the elevations for half my country in one operation, and pack those data as a pod file. Then I would only see the jagged edges when crossing to another country. And if this file weren`t too big, I could share it with you...Is it possible to update lots of tiles like in Fly!, and can those data be podded without needing to make the scenery?Shouldn`t have asked this...if its possible I will have to re-draw a lot of scenery...arrghh! Need a se…
