September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

    For accurate placement I've been using the built in Scenery Editor with my models and now I'm interested in how to go about packing my changes for sharing with other users or distribution on AVSIM. Any ideas on what do about this?-Matt

    I'd like to be able to change the texture of specific taxiways and polygons between concrete and asphalt. I know I can do it with runways but it is possible to do so on taxiways as well? Peter Jacboson's nifty little app sadly doesn't support these features. Any manual way of doing it?-Matt

    I've been using the built-in DB editor for all my internal editing. Some fields for some reason do not allow user import and often show a 0x0 as part of the description. Can I use the DB editor to change these values or do I need something else.I would like to point out before you suggest it that Vol!Edit 1.13 has been giving me serious problems.-Matt

    Hello,I need, in a python script to be able to get the flight plan, but GetFlightPlan only exists with the SDK, so it's for C programmer.Thus i decide to learn enought C to be able to have a little DLL which could write somewere the flight plan so i could read it back with my python script.The thing is that i do not have VisualC++, i tryied then to compile with Borldand free Compiler.But there is a problem with the flysdk.lib file and it is documented there: http://www.bcbdev.com/faqs/faq92.htm.Roughtly it has to do with Coff and omf type that make access to a visual C++ compiled (static?) library unusable for Borland compiler(actually i do not understand anything , excep…

    I have been attempting to place (ANY) models within the Fly!2 Editor, every time I select the add model Icon BANG the dreaded Error message:Runtime Exception Code C0000005(Exception_Access_Violation) at address 008F59b9 File WINRUN.CPP Line 165I can place models within TerraModels with no problem, I can even move the moidels, I have placed with TerraModels within the Editor, but as soon as I attempt to place any new model within the Fly!2 Editor I get the error message and Fly!2 exits. THIS IS NO FUN!!!! Any sugestions?Richard L Hill;

    Hi everyone,I'm seeking clarification (from Rich?) about some of the basic panel paramters:I need some specific info on the tags for "3D window size" and "3D window position" <3Dsz> and <3Dxy>. I could do with knowing how exactly these relate to each other, and also how they relate to the image size and scrolling the panel around.Also, with regards to the "Home Offset" tags. These are obviously the 'home' positions of the panel, but can a panel have as many of these as the designer wants, or is there some limitation.All answers will be much appreciated :-),Cheers,Matthew.

    For anyone interested, I just uploaded the gxx.trn files for globe tile d199160. These files flatten the Allegheny Res, Allegheny R. and most of the Clarion R. The rivers no longer roll up and down hills, and most of the abrupt changes in elevation of the reservoir have been eliminated. The major cities in this globe tile are Erie and Warren PA.

  15. I have TerraScened most of the Colorado Rockies - beautiful VFR scenery. However, with the exception of Aspen, and the "Insane Denver" model packs, I cannot find any other airports.Anyone with a love of modeling - how about filling in some of the other Rocky Mountain and Denver area airports, including KDEN. I'd even suggest replacing some of the airports represented in "Insane" since the pack contains so many models that poly-counts prevent me from using it.By the way, if you want to get some nice TerraScene scenery for the Rockies, consider downloading my "Grand Canyon" pack, which has some custom-selected textures for the mountains. I've found the subtle texture change…

    I tried to follow Pasca's March 7, 2002 directions for 2 lane high ways but could not achieve this.Also whenever I do a Terrscene, where it abuts the standard scenery once can see the difference which are straight lines.I use the totally automated system with a 20 mile or 30 mile airport radius. Is there any way to melt this scenery so it looks more continous.I tried to past a screen shot into this message but could not do it.

    Hi all,I've been investigating a problem I've discovered while developing a Cessna 152 Model for Fly!II (PC only I'm afraid). I initially assumed that it was due to a defect in my model but, on further investigation, I seem to be experiencing the problem without my model being loaded. I'd like to confirm this before wasting any more time trying to debug my model (it's about ready for release apart from this issue).So ...I'd like someone to completely destroy their Fly!II installation for me! (well not quite but it involves a bit of work.)The problem I'm seeing is that when I switch through the enabled computer controlled aircraft, Fly!II crashes with an "access violation …

    I created several Terrascene Scemeries. How do I add buldings to these airports. Fly 2k had an editor with which I could do this. I can't find a way to do this in Fly II. Read all the availabel doc files but found no reference.

    I used Fly!2K up until 9 months ago and left behind lots of photo-based ground scenery. I also noted several beautiful landscapes posted to the screenshots forum.Is there a way to take a Fly!2K EPD file and somehow "reverse slice" the textures to create day and night TGA files? With these files, one could re-pod them for Fly!2 using either TerraScene or the Fly!2 scenery editor.-DK----David KohlFly!
