September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

A new web site has been created for Fly!/Fly!2 development. The idea is a place for you to post your ongoing projects, help others with their projects, organize larger projects, and to help the new developer. After the recent postings in the Fly forum in reference to Fly!'s future, I felt this would be a great way to help keep Fly! development going strong. If you get a change stop by and let me know what you think. Currently the site is about 90% complete. I am also looking for help keeping the site up to date. If you are interested please let me know.I just want to do my part to keep Fly! the best Flight Sim in the world!!www.flydevelopers.com-dajackman

Well, I'm just putting the final touches on my TBM repaint before I upload it to AVSIM, and can't get past one problem. I need to change the internal view when looking left and right (east and west) from the cockpit. My wings have some different paint than the original and you need to see my wings from the inside. So far, I've created the PBM files from the internal views and modified the following panel files to point to the new PBMs:* TBM_MAIN.PNL* TBM_VUEE.PNL* TBM_VUEW.PNLThe problem is that when looking out the left or right of my repainted TBM, I still see the original, blank white wings. I know its looking for my PBM files because when I remove them from my art…

Would you be willing to release your selection textures and displacement maps to use for the enhanced terrascene? I think that if I could get past this part of the creation process, I would be much farther ahead in creating some scenery. I of course would credit your work on this along with your great documentation as I would expect anyone else would. I feel that this part of the creation process probably has stalled a many people in creating this enhanced scenery, and you offering your work would be a great plus to this already great product!

Hi all, This is my second question for the night also related to the logbook add-in. I would like to be able peruse the Fly! II's pod files from my logbook editor that I am writing. This is a standalone tool that will allow you to edit, print, and generally, mess around with your logbook files. In this case, I would like to be able to get at all of the aircraft .NFO files so that I can snag their makes and models for use in drop-down, combo, input boxes and other such whiffty stuff. Also, being able to get airport information for input selection would be nice. Is the POD file specification available anywhere? Maybe Rich can help me here? Cheers, Tony

Hi all. I managed to wrangle myself up a version of 3d Studio Max R4. I've only messed with it so far, but I've got the import/export thing pretty well figured out. I'm a drafter/designer by trade and do some modeling in AutoCad 2002. I'm much better at that then 3d Max. Anyway, I'm interested in makeing some scenery models and would like to know what I need to get them into Fly!II?Thanks for any help. I'll be able to take requests for particular models once I figure out what I need. I'm not ready to tackle planes yet, but scenery objects seem about my sill level.Pieter:)

With no funding US LULC data is no longer updated. Can anyone tell me where one can get US LULC data that can be used with TerraScene? In my state of West Virginia Stonewall Jackson Lake has been open since 1988, however USGS LULC data dated 1994 is missing the lake.

I am nearing completion on my first UK scenery tile and an inserting some missing GA airfields. One of these (Denham EGLD) is at 249ft but when I view my aircraft on the runway I'm starting off 30 feet up in the air. The runway sits OK on my scenery though.I assume therefore I'd better get into 'improving' the elevation model. Is Fly!2 using GTOPO30 (or even DTED level 0)data or do I still have to convert to this.I know that even say GTOPO30 is only accurate to around 1 km-would I be better off using 'AsRux software's GTOP30 converter' which interpolates up to 16 points per pixel? One other question re importing data. Can Fly!2 support 2 parallel runways with the same head…

Hello thereI'am just about starting with making panels for the overhead here's a pic to let you see what I'am talking about! How do I make that rotory switch working into FLY II. It's located on the overheadpanel of a Fokker 100. It's for starting the APU on. The rotory switch is always in the OFF position when the APU is not running, and just click it all the way to the right side to start it up. Then it goes springloaded to the ON position! How do I have to start with it? what kind of image format do I have to make? any animation that's needed? And what do I have to edit in the World directory files? For the info; I use 3d Studio max4 Thanks :-outta

I'm having problems packaging TM22 sceneries...I end up with a ton of models in my MODELS folder, and they should go into the POD...these are the buildings themselves, created with TM22. Obviously, other people have cracked the code on this, so is there something I'm not getting?
