September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

My intention is to try to make ATC in Fly!II like in MSFS2002 (that is much better than Fly!II).I tried MS2002 and I saw that ATC and AI traffic is fantastic (compared to Fly!II).Is it possible to do in Fly!II ?Thanks allPaulo Moreira([email protected])

    I am wondering if any speed can be achived if/or any problems found with placing all area scenery in one folder, rather than a folder for each tile/ It would seem to me access would be faster if all files were in one folder, however tiled developed are placed in individual folders.

    There was several comments about making Commercial Building Models several months ago. Have the projects been dropped now? Seems that they would be very usefull in Fly!2 and or TerraModels.Richard L Hill;

    Hi all,I've just about completed the logbook DLL. The first cut will have limited options but will allow users to start recording their flights and to figure out what options they want added in. I'll be uploading a beta version the the Fly! Developer's website by (I hope) Friday (Sunday at the latest). Cheers, Tony

    Hi all,I'm presently working on the logbook add-in for Fly! II and am struggling with a problem. I want to record the runway that is used when taking off (just in case a runway is actually used!). However, I don't see in the SDK where I can easily determine this information. Does anyone have experience with this bit of the SDK?Cheers, Tony

    Hello, I am interested in designing a panel/aircraft combo for Fly!II but I would like to know if there is a tutorial or ducmentation other than the SDK (which doesn't really help by not explain about the systems used by Fly!II just a load of functions and variables) Any idea, thanks!

  16. Creating scenery in the US with TerraScene is nearly fully automated, but outside the US, its a more complex process. For those who are creating scenery in their home countries, I would like to suggest you post your work to the file library. One of the things that appears to be argued by MSFS2K enthusiasts is that the library of scenery around the world is more complete than Fly!2. I've not used FS2K, so I don't know. So wouldn't it be nice to overcome that "challenge" by distributing our global efforts to the Fly! community? For one, I'd love to fly over countries/regions I've visited like Brittany and Normandy in France, London UK, Dublin, many parts of Switzerland and …

    Hi Folks,Just got Fly II, updated with .210 and .230. I created a new project and selected render. After Rendering, where does TS save the new scenery? When it was done its status window was blank. What would be its file ext and where would I put this new rendering in the Fly II directory? Does Fly II automatically use the new scenery or must I use an additional tool or command to activate it?I've downloaded and read the new TS tutorial, it seems more directed towards folks who are familiar with its use. Searched the forum old and new for these kinds of questions. Got a lot of hits for the advanced stuff like shadows, increasing detail of tiles, but kept missing the threa…

    Hi everyone, .....A request please, could you please start to indicate whether your additions are for PC systems, MAC systems or can be used by BOTH. Just thought it would help people determine which files are suitable for there system before downloading. Perhaps this is something AVSIM can indicate by means of an ICON on their file library pages. It may help reduce downloads if people knew if it was compatable and therefore free-up your systemJust a thoughtRegardsJohn

    Hey Todd - where have you been? I hope you're not here b/c you're out flying your real plane. I have a TerraScene question. I rendered the greater Detriot area yesterday, which includes a chunk of a lake just south of "ONZ" airport. There clearly must be a lack of USGS data for some areas in this area of the globe tile. See my attached screenshots - taken while flying over ONZ looking West and then South.I know you had been playing around with the code in TerraScene so that when there is no data, TS will not simply put generic ground textures in place. I think that's what's happening here.Any news on addressing this behavior in TerraScene? -DK----Fly! II v230Dell 8200 P4/…

    When I try to work with TS Render options pack for western europe, I allways get an error message saying: Unable to read the render options pack file, exec = java.io.IOException: No value found for key= ROP.waterLandUseOptions.count. This happens with all Render packs, except these with the extension (15m/p for use with Fly!1 or Fly!2k).But I would like to create scenery for FlyII?Do I have to change something for the use with FlyII? Or am I trying to use the wrong Render packs?Thanks,Carsten

    Hi everyone,Does anybody know which part of the SVH file I need to look at, in order to change the way an aircraft behaves on the ground (Turning speed, taxi speed etc...)Or perhaps you can point me to the section which controls how the AIRCRAFT reacts to the joystick. (I'm trying to slowdown the reaction of the aircraft while turning/banking in relation to the joystick).Thanks in advance for any HELP!Cheers John
