September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hey, I've grabbed those books and am at the beginning of the long road to learning C :) I started the main panel in 3DS Max but going to restart it because it's rubbish! I made the template for the over head panel, it's just a case of doing it in 3DS Max! One thing that I think may be a problem will be on the ADIRU because it has a display and the whole unit is tilted slightly, and don't know if I will be able to edit the text to fit AND look right..anyone know if that will be possible...because I don't want it to look rubbish! Anyway..I will post a shot of the over head later in this post..well if i can get it somwhere near complete :D

Dearest,I took some problems in front panel conversion: - Some friends gave me two panels (PBM,ACT files) and when I tried to convert, everytools said me "it waited 678 bytes from ACT files an not 772 bytes!! - I am doing a plane front panel ( BMP 256 colors converted in PBM.&ACT files with FLY Graphic Tool ). When I designed my panel I maked glass areas in black (0,0,0) to getting trasparecies. OK After conversion I took an image with a lot of trasparencies where I don't want, and after several tests, many time I took not trasparent area where I painted in black (0,0,0)!!!!!Is there somebody who helps me to solve this problem?Thank you so much for you attention …

    1. I get some GLG files that are more than 10 times the size of others, are they useable files?2. Do you have any plans to make TerraScene use a higher resolution? I see many use your program for FS2002 with the only one complaint, the resolution of output files.

would someone please be able to tell me what all is involved in adding center posts to airplane? does all it involve is opening the .pod file, and then changing a bitmap or something of the sorts, or is it much more involved. i am not a programer or anything, so if there is any of that, i guess that i am out of luck, but if someone could please get back to me with the answer it would really help me out!!!! thanks so much!!!anthony miller!

Hi Everyone,At last, after a lot of frustrating attempts, I can now edit coastlines with a CAD program. This is an addition to TerraShape and will be available as soon as I clean the code up a bit. What you can do:The coastlines are made up of polygons that define the land area. These polygons are defined for each ground tile within each globe tile. The process is twofold; you must change the polygon to reflect the real coastline and then import your changed coastline file into Fly!These files are contained within COAST.POD (so make a backup!!!)If you 'extend' the coastline, as in the case of Nice, then you should also change the underlying texture in GLOBE.PODGLOBE.POD conta…

Is there a way to get better lines ? I always end up with ugly roads and railways. Is it possible to change this in Terrascene ? I use antialiasing and solid color for the roads right now.Or is this solved in render.ini ?All the lines are edited in a CAD program. Is it possible to set a higher resolution there ?

Hey, Just wondering if it's possible to program a failures system, I know Fly!II has a failure system but it is limited! Would it be possible to program a custom failure system for my A320? I think it's limited to the progammer but I think it would be interesting to be able to fail systems (ELAC's, FAC, SEC, HYD, ELEC, etc) Thanks, Matthew
