This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

FLY'ers,Someone was kind enough to post a chart that showed the globe tile numbers superimposed over an outline of the USA.I've searched the library, forums and archives, including my own archives but I cannot find it.Can someone point me in the right direction?Much Thanks!

Did someone know how to change "undocumented" parameters (segment size, individual tile slicing, etc...) in the standard FLY!II editor ? its probably a part of the main code but...The change of these params are easy on the patch 230 editor, but Mac users don't have the toy and the integrated one seems to kill ressources after slicing a few tiles on my system (PC 512Mo, space on DD oka, auto win parms). I have build very large France and Middle-east sceneries from assembled, enhanced, colorized panchro SPOT orthophotos, and I think that sending to users large georeferenced bitmaps, 8 bits color coding, is a good idea, since the amount of datas are a little less "enormous"…

After installing Terrascene 2.1, whenever I attempt to render a scenery package, I receive errors that various files in the texturesbase folder are missing. Closer examination of the documentation states that the base texture pack must be installed in addition to TerraScene 2.1. Here's the problem. I am having difficulity finding this texture pack available for download. Could anyone point me in the right direction (please)?Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.73'sChris - N8TGC

For anyone interested, I just uploaded the gxx.trn files which flatten bodies of water in globe tile D199159. The globe tile includes Pittsburgh proper, but not KPIT, and is the companion to D199160, whose gxx.trn files I uploaded about a month ago. Two airfields in D199159 are KAGC and JST.

I have a small reply from some of the scenery guru's here. When it comes to understanding the scenery applications Im at a loss. I have no problem when it comes to using the simple scenery editor that comes with FlyII. But when it comes to trying to use terrascenery along with the other programs available , it looks rather complicated to me. So I was just wondering if anyone out there that has the time to do so. I would like just a simple runway for a small town airport. No need to be fancy. Here is a url that will direct to a site that gives all the info about location and elevation. www.airnav.com/airport/I96 If the ansi lights can be done that will fine. If not then n…

Hello,I'm looking for some information about the debug info and also an aircraft tuturial. So I browsed the archive and the old forums a bit: I found something interesting about the debug info, a screenshot displaying all kind of engine parameters which would be very helpful. But I didn't found: how is this done to display the debug info?(the ini setting seems to have no effect)Also I want to learn more about how to create external aircraft models. A tutorial by Jean Sabatier was named a few times. But again I didn't found: where to get it?Of course I'm interested if you can name some other info/tutorials too.Maybe these are stupid questions and I missed some things in the…

I have remade all the taxiways and ramps for KBOS and several others. However, there is no taxiway lighting on any of the custom taxiways. They do appear in the taxiway editor though, and are enabled in the 'properties' of the segments.-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

Well, I'm trying to advance in several directions but I think I'll focus first on scenario creation and I'm wondering how to collect information to solve other three subjects:1. Developing scenery for Rio de Janeiro Brazil, I found an interresting problem. The runways are half length over the water and planes can not go through taxiways in these areas. The plane sinks. So how can I correct the terrain around the airport creating land below the airport?2. There is a lot of mountains and hills around Rio de Janeiro, P

When I uploaded Hawaii in early July the TS pod I uploaded included the elevation data set at the TS default, which I assume may also be the Fly!2 default, of 4 and 500. My question: since elevation data can be imported and changed with the Fly! editor, does it override the elevation data in a TS pod or will the scenery pod automatically change the elevation data back to the pod settings? (I could try this myself I guess but maybe somebody knows.)If the TS pod does overide the new Fly! settings then are we better off leaving the elevation data out of the pod and instead leave it to the user to set whatever elevation detail they would like through the Fly! editor? Or am I …

Original question by E-mail:<><>Hi Rodger!I don't know PhotoImpact, but I doubt it has all the functions I used in Phototshop. The critical ones are:- the ability to work with layers and combine them in different ways-the ability to save the selection shape as a channel and work with this channel (really makes things easier, but not absolutely needed)-the ability to perform mathematical operations between these layers and/or channels (VERY powerful tool). I'm currently working to make my method easier, and it's totally based on this function.-the "Displace" filter: it moves each pixel a certain distance away; this distance is defined by the pixel values from a…

I'm starting to study how to develop aircraft for Fly II and downloaded Paint Shop Pro 7. I got some problems and need some help.1. Opening PBM files Paint Shop sends the following message:"Unable to handle this type of PBM, PGM or PPM files"Is Paint Shop Pro 7 compatible with FlyII PBM? If so, what am I missing?2. Opening RAW files requires information related to header size and image size. Does Fly II have any standard for these information related to RAW files?3. Other files like PBG files are not supported by Paint Shop. How can I edit this files that I supose are images?4. I've observed that PBM, PBG files has an ACT related file. What is the relation between them?Th…

Is there any legality issue for a public domain gmax script that would allow users of gmax to 'import' FLY! II Aircraft Model (.ACM) files? SMF files are a no brainer, its the aircraft I am trying to work on.I have started developing one and thus far all the parts are imported nicely, but now I have to move and rotate them into their final positions. Keyframing and Texture mapping are also on my list. So, again, is there any legality issue here? I think it would be a great tool so that developers (and wanna-be developers) can start creating gmax aircraft for FLY! II, and maybe even FLY! Is anyone else working on this? What about a converter that takes gmax output file…

All,I've searched the forum with no luck finding an answer.Example: FWN (Sussex NJ)Without my TM2 scenery:There is an airport beacon about 1/4 mi east from where it should be. I grabbed the LAT/LONG and searched the OBSTRUCT.POD but could not find it (based on the LAT/LONG).With my TM2 scenery:Beacon is gone. To quote Monty Python, "It is no more..." I can add an airport beacon via the FLY!2 editor but have not tried to POD it with my TM2 data.Which is it? A model or obstruction? Should I add it as an OBSTRUCTION or as a model? Does it matter? Does anyone have additional OBSTRUCT data information (other than what has been posted before)? Thanks in advance!

I'm finishing up the Boston area and Logan airport. I don't have the tools to make custom models and was wondering if someone could contribute 2 landmark buildings for the area. Scecifically, The Prudential building, and Hancock building. I think Biber is doing the Logan tower for me as well. I could provide photos and data to model from. Any takers... It'll be a nice addition to the FlyII library.-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

hello everyone! i was wondering why do repaints require the original model (i know that they are not complete.....but y?). also could i make them stand alone? reason y is that i am trying to add a different panel to the repaint of the 737-500. i can get it to work alright on the original model, however i cannot get it to work on any of the repaints. i think that this may be caused by the repaints not having a .pit, .amp files. is there anyway that i could add those files into the repaint? if anyone had any ideas...please help me out!!!! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

just out of curiosity, how much work would go into take a panel out of one aircraft, and placing it into another aircraft? i have been thinking this over for quite some time.....would there be alot of coding involved? or would it be other things. this panel would already be built, however it would be just switched from aircraft to aircraft. would i have to modify the aircraft its self? thanks for the help!!!!!!!anthony

Seems strange that Todd will not reply or answer questions about TerraScene 2.1. Could it be that all interest has benn lost in upgrading or trying to improve this GREAT program just because the possability Fly!III is now DEAD?I posted this question on the 16th and nothing, except for some checking the details of the questions.I know this fantastic program is Freeware, but am I out of line to expect some kind of reply to my questions.Richard L Hill;

Although it's a good idea, because I have already applied the lighter textures globally with Todd's utility, my first Terrascene effort using the Colorado 'pak', resulted in a lighter again textures than the already light general textures surrounding it.Is there a method to turn off Terrascene's lighter textures?ThanksBen
