This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I'm trying to build EGTR, Elstree airfield near London UK using TM2.11. This is an airfield that I have inserted already into the Fly!2 database as it did not exist. I have already produced the scenery area ('Heathrow Zone') and therefore have copied off a .bmp showing the area around the airfield for my background. When I start my project by putting in 'EGTR' to the startup menu it finds the airfield in my modified database OK and shows the correct runway, however I also get a spurious taxiway that does not appear in my Fly! airfield.See attached pic shows it (minus the background bmp).I cannot get rid of this taxiway apart from switching off the 'view taxiway' menu. Any…

Anyone interested in trying out a GPS data output utility for Fly2? It writes your Fly position data to a serial port in NMEA format. You can connect a laptop, PDA, etc. to your serial port and follow along.I wrote this so I could practice with AnywhereMap on my iPaq, thought it might be of use to others.-Frank

I uploaded a scenery pack for D200159. Raystown Lake (not Raymond Lake, misnamed in my package)is the center of attention. I had to move the much of the lake off a ridge so that the far-distance textures would look good, which meant Terrascene segments had to be included for day textures and the water mask. I also included the render options pack I used so that when rendering you will be able to match my textures. Needless to say, I flattened the lake, the Juniata R. and the West Branch of the Susquehanna--the requisite gxx.trn files are included in the pack. To give you an idea of what the scenery looks like, I'll post some shots

I've used Terrascene many times for Fly to do the Western coast of Michigan. Now Im trying to do the Detroit area. I've never used Shapefiles of Canada (Winsor) With DLG files of Michigan (Detroit). Do I just let Terrascene merge the two data sets, or would I have to edit the shapefiles at the Detroit river?Cas

I'm trying to get PhotoShop7 to open an 815Mb full TS2 Globe Tile TGA.Although I have 50 odd Gb of unused drive space on 3 drives I am unable to get the PhotoShop7's 'scratch disks' setting (under 'preferences') to allow me to open this size of file. I know there is a relationship between the RAM set in the memory 'preferences box'(I have 512Meg of actual RAM) but setting all the 'scratch disks' choices to different disks, all of which have lots of freespace still fails.I get the 'not enough RAM' message each time. What am I doing wrong? I can easily open enormous files once they are into PhotoShop format (PSD) but it's the TGA's that I can't open. Some more 'UK scenery'is…

Right now I am constructing the electrical system for a Boeing 747-400. I have this so far://///////////////////////////////////// // // Nose Wheel Steering // /////////////////////////////////////// - Subsystem entry - batt - Battery - - amp-hour rating - 34 24.0 -- Steering Control -- ster But whenever I try to use it in FLY! 2 I get an error message stating that it can't process next tag line. What does this means and how do I fix it?And, what steps should I take after this? I should get the generators working on each of the engines, right? And then the APU? And about the APU, how best to set it up? I appreciate the answersClear Skies

Hi folks,I downloaded a couple of europe sceneries and some of them made FLY2 to crash. from the error message I understood that there are some objects=models missing. I checked on my MODELS folder but couldn't find them. I also checked TM2.2 (which I'm currently using), Bibers and ROTW models but couldn't find any 'wanted' models.Just to test the problem I copied a model and gave it the 'missing' names. Since then I can access the airports. But can see buses everywhere as I copied BUS.BIN and renamed to BUSH.BIN. the BIN files I'm missing are named:BUSH.BIN, BUSH1.BIN .. BUSH4.BINHOUSE.BIN, HOUSE1.BIN .. HOUSE5.BINB_HOUSE.BIN, B_HOUSE1.BIN .. B_HOUSE5.BINI'm sure there…

G'Day!The last days I'd try render the globetile 0-170 with terrascene 2.0 - means east part of london. My FlyEditor 1.06b is running and running. When he's finish I have correct epd folders (1*scf,1*txt,2*epd) in my fly!2k scenery folder but he's empty - only some kB. During the work in the FlyEditor he's jumping from globetile 0-169,1-169 until 255-169; than the same with 0-170, 1-170 until 255-170. Then 0-171,1-171 until 255-171. Between he need some minutes for 127-170. After this I have more than 1250 data folders in my fly/data folder. HAHAHAWhat can I do to make the globetile??????Thanks for Your help.mare

Hi late nighters,I've been attempting to use Elrond Elvish's and Jim Kanold's Ground Type Transform (GTT) utility to see if I could place some solid ground underneath the landscape I created for Honolulu International, specifically around the runway (8R/26L) that Fly! shows to be out in the ocean when in reality it sits on what looks like landfill. Using GTT I found that a couple of the tiles I've been sinking in are actually land, not water. In fact I sink not as I come up on these tiles but more towards the middle of them. Is it possible that some of the tiles are not simply land or water but a combination of both? Or does the coast.pod somehow overide the globe.pod? I …

Hi,Can someone tell me if the European edition contained any European taxiways?I bought the US version as soon as it was released and there are no Euro taxiways in the pods.If it did ship with taxiways would someone be kind enough to let me have a list of them. The output from the File Manager function to catalogue a pod file would do fine.ThanksColin

Hello, I've located 3 and 6 meter imagery for the entire state of Florida and of course want to make some scenery. The attached TGW file only gives one set of coordinates instead of the two sets that FLY! asks for. Is there a way around this or a program out there to find out what the other coordinates are? Thanks for any in info!JamesHmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!
