This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I been reading the forums here on this terrashape tool. Is it actually possible to add rivers and lakes using SHAPEFILES,Terrashape and turbocad to the default FLYII scenery without having to terrascene? From what I have been reading this sounds like it can be done, but maybe I'm wrong. If this is true this is huge good news for FLYII.Please let me know how I can do this, as I am very interested in giving this a try.Thankskristian nader

ErrorCDigitizer::open - Bad HandleFile: C:FlightFlightcorePAD.CPPLine: 156 ErrorCode: (blank)Anyone able to offer suggestions on this error? I have a USB Pen/Pad, Im assuming it see's that I have a pad, and not realizing that its USB, attempts to initialize the COM port unsuccessfully. Is there a way to tell it to ignore the Pad? Does anyone know 'how' it checks for the existance of a pad? (like does it look for a registry key?) Any suggestions at all? Thanks,Brad

Hi!I got a .dem file covering my hometown. To use it in Terrascene I have to use GTOPO30 to generate a .RAS file. After I have used the FileConverter I only have a .rev file, but DemFileViever also reguire a .hdr file? Where/how do I get/generate it?I have been reading http://www.fsnordic.net/article/article/terrascene2/ts2.phpIvar

Does anyone know how to contact Peter Jacobson? The email in his taxiways.doc appears to no longer be valid.Does anyone know how to edit/read the taxiway files?Ive used his program many a time with little problem... but recently have run into this problem twice. (My last two projects) Its very frustrating, because I can find no way to 'remove' these corruptions, once they happen apart from starting over completely from scratch! :(I have discovered that a taxiway width of 5.0, will yeild a single solid yellow line, that merges well with other taxiways. It works very well like a taxi/parking line with just a centerline. I believe, since I have just started using this …

Does anyone know if there is a site that gives a little briefing into the inner workings of Fly2 aircraft design? Specifically, I am looking into tweaking an aircraft's ground handling capabilities. I know that I have to adjust settings like "damping ratio" in the WHL file, but its just different enough from Fly2k that I feel a bit lost.Thanks---John R. Been trying to reshape the coastal areas of Japan as many coastal airports are in the water. Have downloaded and installed TerraShape v1.1 and upgraded to v1.2b. Also downloaded and installed the free TurboCAD LE. So far so good. To get used to these new programs and see how they work, I have followed the instructions as in the manual for TerraShape v1.2b using Nice airport as an example. Everything seems to work fine. However, the problem starts when I want to import the MERGE.DXF file in TurboCAD LE. It just won't do it. Any dxf file created with TerraShape gives me the same error message: File format error Line 0I thought this problem was resolved from the posts I ha…

I noticed some posts about Flattenator crashing for people if they tried to use 'Advanced-Load' with grid tile x,y of greater than 31.I too am having the same problem. So I cant view/determine which super tiles I need to edit, and cant edit them using Flattenator. Is there any solution to this? Also, can anyone help me understand the TRN files? I was able to determine which super tile is involved, by running flattenator on the airport (not advanced), which then set the relevant elevations to the airports correct Alt. Using a program to compare file differences, I can see which super tile was altered. I viewed the flatten.doc help, It states:14.) Find the elevetion entry…

I finally got around to creating some terrascenery for Fly! II, but there are a few problems with it. If anyone could shed some light I'd appreciate it. This is Cable Airport (CCB), which I've created taxiways and TerraModels for. As you can see the entire airport grounds are sunken about 250ft below all the surrounding ground. Additionally there are altitude discrepancies. The database is set to 1,439 ft., the 'Tab' debug info shows me at 1,181 ft, and my altimeter reads 1,210 ft. I slewed up to the top of the hill you can see behind me, and THAT altitude is very close to what the airport should be at, which is why I say 'sunken'. The entire area is dished in on thr…

Fellow Fly!ers,I've downloaded a wonderful speech-to-text program called SpeechBuddy2 (the program is available here at AVSIM). The program has an interface to Fly!(1 and 2) and is able to set controls that user a keystroke.Currently the user is able to set/change flaps, landing gear and the lights. In addition, SpeechBuddy2 allows for the use of verbal checklists. Avcomare already has developed a checlist for the ROTW TBM700.Since Fly!II does not allow the user to directly set/change the NAV, COMM, HDG Bug, etc. is it possible to develop a dll that would allow this type of interaction? If so Fly!ers may be able to extend the level of realism. What do you think?Regards,…

HiI'm currently developing a program that interacts with the flight simulators on the market, I'm using FSUIPC to get to FS98/2000/2002 CFS1/2, but now my question is: Is there such a software for Fly! also?I'd prefer the access via Visual Basic (my knowledge of C++ is not very much currently). Thanks,

Hi everyone!I will soon be looking for a few beta testers for Panel Maker. At this stage, the beta is an early beta, (as opposed to a beta which is nearer a release candidate) and I just need two or three testers to make sure it will work on other machines. If you would like to help out, then please reply to this post to register your interest. Ideally, you should have some experience of messing about with PBG, PBM files (i.e. creating artwork in the Fly!II format) and experience of tinkering with Fly!II panels would be helpful (only because I don't have any documentation for Panel Maker yet).Cheers,Matthew :-)

Hello all,I am new to Terrascene and have a question. When I get the program loaded and going, I am getting an error that it cannot find certain textures (jpeg format). I installed v1 of ts and noticed that there are a number of textures in there. However, many of the textures it is requesting have "TS2" in the filename. I have looked high and low for any sort of download - with no luck.I also notice a program called "podview.exe" which, from what I can gather from various docuemtns and stuff, is that it should allow me to view and extract files from a .pod however, when ever I try to load a pod in to the program it either hangs or crashes. Any hints?I must also say that I…

I am going to upload a new version of the Ny metro Shared.pod that will include an mlf file so that people can use the extra models in there for their own creations. In doing so, I realized that a few of the building models have night models associated with them, but have to be manually configured to work in the .Sxx files. What's the easiest way to modify a model so that when you place it using the FlyII editor, the corresponding night model is also accounted for? Is there a shareware app that I can use to modify this parameter?-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

Hi allI have found the problem with TurboCAD opening the dxf files created using TerraShape,It's fixed in the new build on my site tonight. It was a very minor thing, just a CR missing from the end of the file :(The TurboCAD message about file error on line 0 was totally misleading, and wrong (and wasted a lot of my time) :-grrIf any users with other brands of CAD program have any problems, please let me know here or by mail. I have d/l TurboCAD LE which is *free* on IMSI's site and have been testing with this. The LE designation is NOT for a 'lite' version as I thought.TurboCAD LE is the full version of TurboCAD 4 Professional and is a very capable program, perfectly adequ…
