This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I have just uploaded the Fly! II Debug Templates that allow visualizing the different parameters of subsystems such as engines, propellers, wheels, wing sections, rotors and fuel. This is a great tool for those wishing to "tweak" existing flight models as well as for those wishing to create new aircraft. We owe this great resource to Chris Wallace who, in turn, got it from Paul Russell.Enjoy!!!Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTFly! Hi!Just wanted to warn developers about using numbers as the first of the four character of a data tag in the AMP, GAS, PNL, etc. aircraft files. The first character MUST be a letter or the system will not work properly.I recently ran into this problem and after a lot of trial and error I was able to figure this out.Just wanted to share this.Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTFly! For some reason, it will not work in the new upcoming b1900, despite my having eliminated the usual possibilities. Need a fresh set of eyes. E-mail me, please.tony

I've been toying around the last fortnight with panel design and find it rather incongruent that the scale of a panel is dependent on the smallest item on the panel. The way TRI incorporates the needle pointers on the instruments is to have a single pbg file with 361 frames displaying the pointer at every degree position from 0 to 360. Since Photoshop has an x and y maximum pixel dimension of 30,000 for its graphics files this means the largest needle pointer can be only 41 pixels long!!! ( 83 x 361 = 29963 ) This is quite small and limits the scale of the instrument. What I would like to know is would it be possible to get Fly!! to interrogate the pbg file every 2 deg…

Help...Even though I have had Fly 2K for some time, I am just now getting into the scenery thing... The Scenery for LAS Vegas from the file library looks like a good starting point, but THE RUNWAYS COME OUT 50 FEET IN THE AIR.Any ideas on how to get them down to earth?I noted in a couple of other scenery downloads that there is a mention of having fixed the floating runways issue, but no mention, anywhere, of how the fix is done, or how to do it with the scenery editor. Have tried "Flatten airports" option to no avail. Thanks Guys.

If you are a TS beginner and have to use shapefile-data for scenery outside the USA its difficult to see what mistakes you made when manually adding shapefiles to the project. Pascal LSGC made a little mini-tutorial to produce "maps" with your TS-data - works also with shapefiles. I used it as a "debugging-tool" and found immediatly some big mistakes I made (and what poor landuse-data we can get for Europe). See 2 examples (before and after error-correction) as attachment, because I don't actually know how to place the pictures HERE.Your will find Pascals mini-tutorial under Subject: "RE: Who wants to create shapefiles for...."Thank you once again Pascal Lachat for that…

I downloaded some Hawaii 1:24K (7.5min) SDTS DEM and LULC data from geocomm.com/EROS site. I placed it in the manually added folder, renamed them. I rendered Oahu and no LULC and the system generated the area so fast, I think the DEMs weren't touched. I did not go the full slice/pod routine. But my roads and DLGs came out fine. Should I have not renamed the files? Is there a problem with the newer format of SDTS with TS? Thanks for any insight!!Sidenote: geocomm is S L O W for the free downloads!! :-eekCheers!Ken Wood :-sun1Gateway 700X; Intel P4 2.4GHz; 512MB RAM; NVIDIA Ti4200 4X AGP 128MB; SB Audigy; Thrustmaster TopGun Fox 2 Pro Shock

Baseball diamonds and swimming pools! Come on, that's what we see when we're in the real thing! How about a shapefile for buildings that have writing on their roofs, like Target on the approach to La Guardia. Just kidding! But the diamonds would be cool. How about all those circular crops out west when flying to San Francisco?Ok, Ok. A more serious note, I posted a while back about a map that would highlight the installed globe tiles on your computer. Any ideas on how to do it? Is there a way to get Terrascene's map and simply highlight them?JamesHmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!

Hey Folks, Started my Florida scenery project and the rendering came out great! Sliced and Podded and it looks awful! Textures are not right, cities missing, etc. What went wrong? I've included some pics so you can see what I'm talking about.JamesHmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!

After reading about one person's recent travails with RAW/ACT files of undeterminant size in the Fly! general forum a week or two back, I decided to write a little freeware conversion utility to provide some visual feedback and help to ease RAW/ACT to BMP conversions, particularly in cases where the exact dimensions of the RAW file are not known. (I also put in BMP to RAW/ACT conversions as well, just so everything would be available in the one utility.)I figured it would take me just a few days to complete, but sure enough various matters (illness, career stuff, and the most fun part, feature creep!) got into the act and stretched that timeframe out to a few weeks. But…

G'day all,I've just recently discovered the fun in panel arranging but keep geting a few problems with some *.pbg files. The files create fine using the converter program but Fly! II spits the dummy and just displays a black patch where the graphic should be. This might be a stupid question but does anone know if Fly! II has a limit as to the max size of a pbg file one is allowed to use???One of the files in question is the landing gear selector handle which I am trying to make 30 x 596 pixels ( 2 frames of 30 x 298 ). If it's not a size problem has anyone any ideas as to what might be causing my files to show up black. Attachment is the panel in progress.Cheers,Roger …

I am trying to move the flap indicator from TRI41 and place it in my main panel ( a modified tri30). The flap handle that should effect the flap indicator is the one in Tri30. From the pics you can see which indicator I want to move, and which flap handle should move it. Your help would be appreciated. thanks.tony

Hi there,I was wondering if anyone knows how to make a solid roof for a custom made smf file. I would like to land on it but with the custom file it sinks through the roof! if you use a building that came with fly it self you can easly land on it without any problems! Thanks and take care,Jarno

Randall,HOW IN THE WORLD :-) can this be achieved? I thought Fly!II and Terrascene 2 supported 7.5m resolution not just for DEMs but also for textures. Do you know if it's possible?I'm Terrascening (new verb ;-)) Maine and would like to add additional details around some of the major airports. I created a pretty good aerial image but when I want to paste them onto the Terrascene generated .TGA file, I have to reduce them so much that the resolution is awful. I've selected 7.5m in the Project options. Am I missing something? Thanks,Alejandro AmigorenaCheshire, CTFly! Has anyone ever thought of encorporating the moving map display into the avionics of an airplane in FlyII? My project plane, the Lancair Columbia 300 uses a moving map display as a major part of its panel. So far, my realism efforts have been saved by the fact that this is an option when ordering a Columbia 300, not standard. But in the back of my mind, I've been wondering if its possible to harness the FlyII moving map inside of a panel rather than the pop-up window. I'm assuming this would be possible as a DLL. Would anybody know whether this is possible and perhaps give me their guess on the difficulty of the task? I've included some images of the Columbia 300 to…
