September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I'm wondering how to produce an object Terramodels can place as a border, the same way fences are done. For airports with forest areas around the boundary, it would be nice to make a "fence" out of trees. You could have a realistic-looking forest edge with few polygons. In pro sims by FlightSafety, forests are made like buildings, with tree images for walls and roofs. Forests of individual tree models are used for helicopter/military low-level sims requiring maneuvers between trees and hovering.I'd be happy just to produce 2D forest treelines like fences, without worrying about 3D construction with roofs. Just don't know how long Terramodels expects a fence segment to be…

Hello all,I was wondering if you could generate scenery on a computer that does not have Fly!II installed? Reason, I have DSL at my office, If it works I could save hours of time spent downloading at home. I do not have a computer at my office with the graphics ability for Fly!II so I have not loaded it there.Anyone that has tried this, please tell me if it worked.Zane

Hi AllThere is a new build of TerraShape on my site now. This build adds the capability to extract the default coastline to a dxf line file. The purpose of this function is to allow the creation of a ponetp-style file. If the default coastline is good (as in most cases) or has been edited to make it good, then by using the extracted coastline polyline file you will mirror the underlying scenery exactly. This will be especially useful when TerraScening areas such as Jeck's modified Loire valley :)ColinMy Hangar Site

  6. Hello all,In the latest sales brochures for the Raytheon/Beech King Air 200/350 they show the Universal UNC 1 mounted in the center console between the seats above the pressurization controls. The EFIS controls are also in this same console mounted above the autopilot controls. I was wondering if it would be possible to take the Universal FMS used in the Peregrine (Hawker 800) and mount it into the King Air panel? If anyone knows how to do this or knows of a file that this has already been done, please let me know.Zane

I have noticed that the KMA24 audio panel in the Flyhawk and Pilatus (and ROTW's PA28) work fine but the same instrument used in the Malibu and Navajo (also used in ROTW's TBM) won't allow switching to a different mic source. Is there a fix posted somewhere or is there a way to fix it myself. I am going online to look for a panel modifying program compatible with FlyII after writing this. Thanks in advance... I'm really loving this program! Downloaded and tried out C4TO lastnight, so far very nice.Zane

I have a Fly!2K aircraft with a totally inoperable wing de-icing system. The pitot and window systems work fine. I also know that this problem will never be fixed by the original developers, so I will have to fix this myself if possible. How can I fix this single system?Mac Fly!2K with SDK update

How can I get the Fly! Editor to create 8x8 detail elevations?I've tried importing the Terrascene project RAS output, with 8X8 detail setting, and subdivide of both 0 and 1. Neither yeilded any elevations greater than 4x4. What Im trying to do is import the RAS file from a terrascenery project so that the FULL file is 8x8 detail tiles. I want to be able to copy/paste the 8x8 detail tiles for areas that I am flattening near airports.

Check the main Terminal on the pic...I have attached a thin, long element (a spline converted to mesh)to simulate the wooden beams carrying the roof. They are attached just on the outside of the side walls. My problem is all the wooden plates are blinking when I see the scenery from a distance, and for some weird reason I see this most often from looking North, looking South is OK. In the pic you can see the beam is distorted, looking East this time...Is there a solution to stop this blinking? Hope so, it is so much easier attaching the wood as elements, instead of fighting it into the main texture...Well if you help me out on this one I`ll give you this airport for free :…

Does anyone know what the gestalt flags are?I know in 2000 rich posted them here in the AVSIM forums... but for the life of me, after countless searches of both the old and new forums, I can not find them. What im trying to do is animate a night-time model. Basically I want to create a flashing obstruction light. I also want to create a replacement beacon head, which is visible from far out.I've tried every manipulation I can think of, trying to get it to work. I know one of the gestalt flags in 2k involved something to the effect of 'item needs a timeslice' which i believe had to do with .arm animations. Anyone know anything about creating an animated model? Thanks,Bra…

  17. I downloaded Rob Vigetti's "Default Aircraft Fixes" POD that includes center posts for all the aircraft. In general, they really increase the "feel". But on the Pilatus, the sun visor's, I think, take up too much room on the front windows, reducing overall visibility.I am a "newby" on using Photoshop Elements - its the only graphics package I have. But I've never attempted to edit a panel, or anything so complex. My goal is to keep the centerposts and overhead portions of the panel Rob has created, but to remove (or drastically diminish the size of) the sun visors. I could use some help (or alternatively, if someone wants to take on this project, it'll be great. Here is Ro…

I've looked at the fly2 cloud textures and tried unsuccesfully to reduce the size of the textures. FLY2 will simply not recognize them. My thought was to reduce to 120x128 so that they would not tax the video card as much. Any ideas?tony

Does anyone know what causes this? Here is a problem I have been having with Big Bear Lake, CA. In the foreground is the lake, the furthest portion of which we are seeing through. Behind that, the mountains which surround the lake. (In other words, all I should see here, is the mountains at the top, and the lake.)http://home.earthlink.net/~scissors2/fly/s...ns/fly!0017.jpgWhen I slew up, you can see, the mountains which were partially visible through the lake, are in distant background. http://home.earthlink.net/~scissors2/fly/s...ns/fly!0018.jpgHere, at CCB there is a hill in between me and the airport youre seeing in the distance. 21. Allen,I have now succeeded in placing a texture layer below the runway and taxiways. I generated this with the TM21_256.POD installed and I believe that this resulted in a 256x256 texture for the polygon. Will this cause any problems for those using the TM21_128.POD, or will it even be a requirement that the TM pod be installed as the texture file will be in the Art folder? http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e8bbdea7f4ed507.jpg

Look at the picture. The gates on the right are OK. The gates on the left you can see through all of them. In Max, I used a single-sided transparent (with an Alpha channel, tga), and on the rest of the glass sections I have used a double-sided texture. Sometimes this happens, sometimes not...What can I do to avoid this? Do I have to make the transparent parts double-textured as well, or must force the material to be two-sided?Arrgghh what a mess this is...
