September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

HiI am new to Fly! II and am writing a DLL for experimental reasons so that I can understand things a little better. My DLL can currently get and set the state of several of the simple switches in the Kodiak, but I can't make the same thing work for the starter switch.I don't, as yet, fully understand the file formats used by Fly!. Can someone help me understand the entry for the power switch in the panel file? I would like to thank all of you who's posts I have read for the valuable information contained in them.ThanksRichard

I work at a company called "Tommorow's Areonattical Museum". This is a non-profit flight school where teens like me can work (volenteer) and make up credits for $5/hour and use that to get flying time. I am a student pilot that is waiting for my 16th birthday to solo. ANYWAYS we have simulators and alot of planes there, my goal is to Model all of the planes we have for FLY2. I can do the modeling but nto the panel work, any helpers for this project. I can take digital pictures of all of the panels and views (views from inside).Justinwww.mentormall.cc

I've migrated from Windows 98 to XP recently. Unfortunately Taxiway does not load Ready Taxiways or allow me to create new ones. Talonsoft Technical Support informed it should not work in XP and recommended me to try XP compatibility features. Didn't work also.Does somebody have a solution for Taxiway in Windows XP?Thanks in advance.___ JJLobo ___55 11 37268158

I have been having this problem with Fly2slice.EXE not responding.I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Fly2Update2.1.230 as well as TerraScene 2.1, with the same result.Terrascene smoothly goes through its routine, making all required *.tga, *.txt, *.ras, and *.rat files, makes D*folder in Fly2/Scenery, writes *,-* .txt file then STOPS!As much as I enjoy Fly2, making area scenery tiles in general, I think I can finf better use of 10+ Gigs of hard drive space for Fly!2, TerraScene2.1 and all my scenery tiles, when I can find no help with this problem.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Richard L Hill [email protected]

Hello can somebody tell me how I can bypass the craming process? Jak told us some months ago how you can texture the model with a custom made texture file so you can have more control over it! but how can you tell the editor you don't want to crame it? I have tried it without succes Cheers! :-outta

Hi All,Just about finished a new utility I've been working on for a while now.In a nutshell, it is a translation tool for dxf/shapefiles to allow editing before adding to TerraScene. It will be more useful to those creating non-US scenery than anyone else, but there are a couple of useful features for everyone. It should be available very soon, but if anyone wants to test it as is - drop me a line.A first draft of the manual can be got from My Hangar SiteAll comments are welcome - good or bad :-)Colin

I thought I would post this again and see if anyone has a solution. Many of the default Fly II buildings are out of position when you Terrascene the same area that the default buildings are in. For instance after doing the SFO area in TS2 many of the buildings are now in the bay, the Bay Bridge is completely off from the roadway leading to and from it and Alcatraz is in the water. You can move them in the editor but saving does not create a scnery file and when you restart Fly II the objects are back in their default position. Any suggestions on how to reposition them and have the changes stick?

Well, hi again. Can anyone share their TS strategies as far as how to complete a "satisfactory" representation of your flying area for your use?One strategy may be TS-ing just a few miles around each airport - say, 5 airports you generally fly to.... Then, TM-ing those airports....Another strategy may be TS-ing tiles containting those "popular" airports, then TMing them as you wish.. I just don't know.Any thoughts?Andrew

  17. Hi Folks,Oops, forgot to add. This would be for Fly!II.My Phoenix scenery was almost done this morning as I woke up. 1 full tile, with a few mods in TS 2.1 :-)Has anyone done any Terra Models or scenery for Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport?I used to fly there all the time in the 80's from California to Phoenix on Southwest Airlines while I was in the Marine Corps. Even if it is basic, I would love to get my hands on it. :-)Does anyone remember the FREE alcohol flights Southwest used to have? I used to walk off the plane with bags of liquor the Flight Attendants gave me. :-lolThanks in Advance,Joe :-kewlhttp://home.attbi.com/~jranos/mysig.jpg http://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo…

I'm just getting started with panel designs.I cannot seem to successfully rebuild an aircraft pod and have the changes take effect.I'm running windows xp, so no DOS programs or graphics converters will work.First I loaded up File Manager in FLY!II (hold control while loading FLY!). The I select create response file for the pod and I selected the FLYHAWK and named the response file TESTHAWK.txtThen I selected completely extract a pod. I selected FLYHAWK and it seccessfull excracted. Next I went out of fly to alter the main panel bitmap, I simply wrote my name across it, Saved it. THen i started File manager again, and select make pod from response file. Then it made the p…

It seems everyone has stopped working on Fly!2 related projects. Nothing new about TerraScene and adding Divided Highway texture, I had sent Todd an email with no response. Also asked him about problem with no water effects, no splash video or audio although texture is right, still no response. Nothing in the works on a new anfibian aircraft, or smaller turboprops. Guess everyone is inspired by FS2002!

I'm having a problem with an aircraft I'm developing. On some beta testers' systems, just placing the Aircraft.pod file in the aircraft directory causes Fly!II to crash during startup, even though my aircraft has never been selected. On one system, the gtfo.txt file gives: -Msg: Runtime execption code c0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 77F5215CFile: WINRUN.CPP line 165Time: Thu Apr 25 10:17:44 2002errno = 2 (No such file or directory)I'm trying to understand what Fly! might be doing with my pod that could cause it to crash. I guess that it might load the icon art files to make them available for selection, but they're definitely in the pod. Beyond that, I hav…

Ok, Am I doing something wrong, or is my version of Codewarrior just too old?I am using Codewarrior IDE 2.0 (yeah, yeah, I know) to attempt to compile the sample DLL's that were included with the SDK. I setup the linker as "MacOS Merge" and set it to output a "Shared Library". I commented out the "#include WindowDll.h"and added the following "includes to " the "cpp" files:#include "dllintf.h"#include "Sdk.h"#include "Sdkintf.h"I place the required "fcs" and "ifr" files in their appropriate foldersThe samples seem to link and compile just fine but Fly2K gives me a fatal error at startup.Did I miss something in the C++ code, or do I need a newer version of CodeWarrior?---Jo…
