This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

G'day all,I'm just at the final assembly stage of completing a 3d model in truespace for Fly! II.I understand that there is a 100 parts limit imposed somehow. Does anyone know exactly how this figure is counted? Is it - the total numder of parts in the ACM file. the total number of parts attached to the "body" in the heirachy. ( excluding sub levels of parent parts attached to "body". the total number of parts including all sublevels.Apart from using "object union" which joins multiple parts into a single part does anyone know of any "tricks" that may be used to overcome this 100 part limitation. I started with 174 parts and have managed to whittle it down to 107 parts ( …

G'day all,I'm following the Fly! II Gauge Referrence Manual and have entered the code for a two hands analogue clock into the .pnl file for an aircraft I'm making. The problem is that the code for the aclk Analogue Clock seems to have absolutely no effect whatsoever. No CTD no nothing??? Do I have to make some other entry in another world file???? The description of the gauge states that it is a ctwoneedles class gauge and that it inherits its data tags from it's parent "2ned" where ever that gauge is hiding? All help really appreciated. And I thought learning 3d modelling was tough. :-)Cheers all,Roger

G'day all, When animating fan blades; is it done the same as for propellors? ie by modeling every blade, or is it done by modeling a single disc and painting the fan blades on the disc and rotating the disc.Cheers,Roger

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!AMP is for systems, PNL for guages, VLT and others for weight/positions, but what file determines the number and placement of wheels?Their is a float 172 with wheels, but the physics of floats installed in the library. My idea is to put retractable landing gear in to make it amphibious. The Staggerwing would be even easier, since it already has retractable gaer and a float version exists. At this point the visual models are beyond me, I would just provide the physics. Some more ideas I have are to make the floats nonoperable fuel tanks. When sitting on the water, the weight of the floats would increase slowly, simulating water seeping into t…

Hello, I'm currently working on a scenery project and I was wondering if I ask a few questions..Firstly, is there a way to have Fly2slice.exe slice my scenery manually, -WITHOUT- having to be in Fly!II itself? (I.E. not the control+e editor). The reason is that when you press ctrl+e and slice, if you alt tab out of Fly!II it stops slicing. This means that I'm losing valuable development time every time I need to experiment with a texture.Second, is there a better way to align photos with the runway? I have TerraShape and have exported shape files of the region I'm developing, however I can't figure out how to get Terrascene to render the runways in the shape files into th…

Hi all,Largely because of Fly I have started having flying lessons. In shutting down the engine of a Cessna 172 or Grumman AA5 we are taught to turn the ignition key quickly to the off position, then immediately back to 'both' once it is clear the engine falters, before finally letting the engine die by pulling the mixture to the fully-leaned position.I've tried this with the Fly2 Cessna and the engines dies once the key is turned to the off position even momentarily.Does this happen to all flyers and,if so,does anyone have ideas as to how it could be corrected?:-wave

I have just upoaded a DB update for the continental U.S. This is something that I've been working with on and off for the last several years, and I'm happy this set is finally done. It should be available soon in the Fly!II Navigation area under the heading: Group 2 U.S. Approach & NAV Updates.===Warning: some of this work goes back well before Didier began uploading DAFIF data, so if you use his DAFIF updates, there may be compatibility issues. If enough people post that they use DAFIF, then I may consider uploading a separate version of the package that would use the new unique ID structure. That would be a lot of extra work, but I would be willing to do it if eno…

I have two FLY2 directories. One for development, and the other for my flying. I created a panel mod and podded it. In one directory it works fine. In the other the pod does not work. I checked to see that both the art and data folders are empty. I simply don't understand why. tony

Hi All, another teaser, I see from Randy's excelent tutorial on Databases that by adding the types of comms you can make combinations, & I have come across some of these NDB/DME's but am at a loss as to how to put in a Freq. to be able to read the DME as there is only one freq. line in Voledit & the NDB Freq's do not connect to either of the Nav's. I have tried making some using 24 as the type value & the NDB portion works perfect but no distance. Is there a way of doing this or does a person just have to make a stand alone DME. Not a big problem but would like to know if there is a way of achieving this. Thanks for any help on this.Desmond

Maybe YOU, yes you, could write all of your many flight sim enthusiast friends and ask if they would be willing to put up $100USD each per unit of participation, and deposit the money in an escrow account in a bank until we have about 500-1,000 units pledged.I think that the company that owns FLY might listen to a cash offer. What are your thoughts?? Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!When FLY 2 was in development they did a survey on what aircraft were most wanted. They were surprised when the most desired aircraft was one they had never heard of, our beloved PCXII. Wayne Roberts revived the tradition with scenery requests. I propose developers reveal what products they are CONSIDERING developing. Fly 2 users would have a chance to make them their first, second or third choice. For example:1: Specific to type cockpit for Robert Vigetti's Piagio Avanti2: Grumman Turbo Albatross with IFR capable avionics suite.3: Ficticious Naval Medevac Hawker TR800 with inflight refueling probe and arresting gearI'm not trying to limit …

I have found several models of single trees (and one of a group of winter trees) to be used in fly! II scenery design, however I haven't been able to find any groups of trees large enought to be categorized as a forest.this may sound a bit silly as a request, but i am working in the london scenery and kent scenery for the UK, which when finished will prtobably contain a very large amount of models, and having to use quite a lot of single trees to populate the numerous parks around the city will unnecesarily put strain on the frame rates.my request is, does any of you have trees designed in .cob format for truespace 3.2, or else forests (say 1/2 mile by 1/2mile) in either …

In the editor I clicke the creat a response file from Pod; gave it a name and the program creates a response file and places it in the root directory. When I try to create a pod file from a response file , I get the above error. what am I doing wrong? Also is FLY2 editor the only way to create a pod 2?tony

G'day all,When texture mapping using the "gizmo" in planar mode in truespace 3.2 the default is to texture front and back.(ie. both sides) Is it possible to texture only the front side on it's own??I have a couple of texture errors that I'd like to fix before uploading the Jabiru.Cheers,Roger

Hi all,Alex yet described here the way to add all sort of lights to scenery models (the firetruck ... remember ?), and we had recently the idea, with Dany, to have animated scenery objects (after having also developped scenery objects with sound). The idea was to port the dynamic parts technique used with airplanes to static objects ... and this is the result :http://rotw.simvol.org/beta/Project_dynami...ect_test_v0.zipThe test scenery is Djibouti airport, the animated (and lit thanks to Alex) object is the normal malibu (but you can have any 3D animated ACM or SMF object) and the key is Alt+F9 (you should see the flaps going in and out ...) : see the data/dp3d_AI_TRI_v100…

G'day all,I need help ...please.I'm in the midst of making the interior views of a cockpit and find each angle view has 3 files.*.act*.pbm*.aaiThe act and pbm files are no problem but where does the *.aai fit into the scheme of things and how is it produced.at present I'm just using the TRI flyhawk files but that leaves a nasty outline of the Cessna windows on the Jabiru.See the attached picture. What am I doing wrong?Cheers,Roger.

G'day Laurent,I'm starting to get into the nitty gritty part of the Jabiru main panel. I was wondering if you could please post the pixel dimensions ( H x W )of the new ( soon to be released) GPS by ROTW. It's a very small panel and space is a premium.Cheers,Roger

I have downloaded all of the sectional and terminal area maps recently uploaded by Matt Fox, and am in the process of converting them all to ECW and creating MAP files. They provide complete (I think) coverage of the continental US and Alaska (plus some adjoining areas of Canada). They are scanned at twice the resolution of the sectionals provided by TRI.If anybody would like to help create MAP files, drop me an e-mail and we can portion them out to work in parallel.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada
