Lake Tahoe September, 2002 |
This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

G'day all,An aircraft of unknown type doing some clandestine nightime flight trials at a secret location away from prying eyes. The intrepid spotter reports that the trials appeared to be very successful. However, I do believe the pilots report contains a reference to lack of instrumentation :-)Cheers,Roger

Hi. I would like to modify the standby horizon football in the Hawker/Peregrine. Can anyone tell me where the "ART" file is for this gauge? I suspect it is RHATTI.pbm but cannot find it in any of the ART directories. I want to add a centre vertical line to the 'football' to show the angle of bank against the overlay or rim portion of the gauge. I have already added a horizon bar and a lubber line and the gauge works well, but it needs a better indication of bank angle.

Hello to all. I am a newbie to this forum although I own my copy of Fly! (it is Fly! 1) for a while. I began downloading some existing add-on aircrafts and now my interest has grown to painting my own aircrafts (exterior-mainly changing color, adding logos).I have searched the forum and the internet, however I did not find what I am looking for (I found a lot of things about FS, bot not for original Fly!) So at the moment I am slightly clueless , that is why I have some questions (I apologise if there is some link I haven`t noticed). I own Fly! SDK 1.01.88 (users). I noticed some tools (True space, Fly Editor). I guess I need some graphic/paint program too? Any help (t…

Hi Fly!ers,in my ambition to learn more about Fly! scenery and the goal to create some scenery I would like to ask which elevation model originally is used in Fly!2? I understand that the later SRTM data must be higher resolution but compared to the original scenery by which factor?and my most important question? what would be the easiest way to put in rivers and streets for vfr flying? is there a data set which can be imported with the fly! editor?

The round attitude indicator in fly!II moves in pitch in steps of about 2 to 2.5 degrees. How can this be changed so that this jerky pitch motion is reduced to steps of one degree or less? If this is possible to do - how would I go about making this change?Brian

G'day all,I'm having a problem trying to make the engines look acceptable when viewed throught the cockpit windows. Chrome is just beyond me I'm afraid. No matter what I do the dome turns out rather flat and not very chrome like. The main purpose of this post is to canvas ideas on whether or not to add apropeller to the engine? The prop is fixed (don't know if I can obtain a spinning prop view from the cockpit) and presently shown in feather!!! I'm certainly not capable of drawing a blurred spinning propeller. I'm just at a loss on how best to handle the situation.Any ideas anyone???I need help.....please :-)CheersRoger

G'day Brian,Way to go mate! :-)Good to hear you are having fun. My reply is a trifle long and rather than bore the life out of the few who do visit the general discussion forumI thought it prudent to move our little "tete a tete"over to the developer forum where it more rightfully belongs. >I am enjoying playing around with the attitude gauge and think I am >getting somewhere .... but then another road block. I need to make a >change in the 'Cockpit Manager' file 'cockmngr.cpp' .... but can I >find that file!? I have looked in every POD file that would seem to >be a possibility without success, but it must be somewhere! Now you are getting into the good stu…

G'day all,Does anyone on the forum have some radial engines sounds filed away on their hard drive, that they would be willing to allow me to use on a model for Fly! II. Any radial engine would do ... of course it would be even better if it was an " Alvis Leonides " but beggars can't be choosers :-lolYou must of course own the copyright or have the written permission of the copyright holder to use such files. - don't want to go upsetting anyone.Cheers all,Roger

Tony,Sorry I can'y answer you directly on your post. Trouble with the forum ?Yes, there are mistakes ;-)1 : At KPVD runways are 05R/23L and not 05/23.2 : If you only wrote way for runway 23L, when opening Fly with default wind (0 knots from north), default runway will be 05R.3 : you use 'D' instead of 'd'. 'D' is for heavy aircraft (not yet implemented.4 : you forgot holding point (wrote '1' in column 'type' in VolNav)5 : there are two unuseful point on the runway : aircraft will increase speed to take off when reaching last point. The right one with reverse for landing :KPVD;05R;a;P1;0;0;150229.699919;1038884.457748;0;150231.840617;1038879.680505;0;150226.379630;1038875.5…

Has anyone heard of a 3D Modeling software called ModelPress by a company called Informative Graphics?I was doing a google search and hit this web site. It says its a truely free 3D Modeling application that allows you to export to 3D Studio file format. I believe there is a file conversion utility for FLY! or FLY! II that takes the 3DS and converts to BIN, SMF, or whatever the format for FLY! was/is. That means that more people can get into modeling aircraft, cars, boats, buildings, etc.I admit that I am clueless when it comes to 3D software and animation, and have no clue whether this software will do 'key frames' or allow for animations that FLY! needs to make Contr…

I am back to Fly!2 after a loooong while away from this great sim.I recall that one of the issues that made me leave about 2 years ago was the poor PC I then had. Things have changed, and Fly!2 flies... in my new (not top-notch) machine. There has allways been a very special sensation, when I use this sim, of really being there, and one that no other sim replicates as well (with the possible exception of Fligh Unlimited it it wasn't for the rather arcadish panels it comes with...).Well, back to Fly!2, there were allways some aspects of the FM which I found remarkable (still find!), and also a few that disappointed me. One of the major limitations, IMHO comes to torque &…

I have been using FLY for years and just love it. Would like to get information on how to "fill in" the area around an airport to make it more visable, also to add taxiways, and lights. Is there a guide or instructional manual that will help me get started? Ditto how to correct "floating" runways (w/flatinator?). Thanks, Harold

Hello all I just found this part of the forum. I have FlyII but have not flown for a l;ong time because the settings are for joystick for prop and mixture was backwards and was unable to save the settings as I wished. This was several years ago. I e mailed the developer and was told that fly was not supported on win xp pro. I really loved the reality of this sim is there anything I can do to get this up running properly? Thanks Dan I also have Fly 2k which would be better to run on xp pro?

G'day all, I've got a problem with an aircraft shadow. At most viewing angles it's fine but at a certain angle the wing shadows break into slivers.See attached pic.Anyone any idea as to what might be causing this? I should point out that the problem only appears to be happening with the wing shadow. The rest of the aircraft is fine. I've redone the shadow acm several times but the problem won't go away.Cheers,Roger

Hi all,I have been trying to modify the instructions for the carb heat selector hoping to enable it to work with the Yoke buttons/keypad rather than just the mouseKnowing very little about programming it has been frustrating. After changing the panel file for the carb heat selector and trying to run the modified version of the ROTW PA28 the plane appears in the aircraft selection panel as PA28-F2.NFO and the system crashes if I try to select it.What am I doing wrong that causes this?Any help would be gratefully received.:-zhelp
