The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

HiI rendered a quatertile in Terrascene with the Option "nighttextures" selected. When I start the scenery in FLY!! only approx. 20% of the tiles have a night texture. The .TGA-file for the night-textures in the output-directory of Terrascene is OK. Looking in the .TRN-file I see, that for every 16 textures of a tile only 2 or 3 nighttextures are available. So maybe it is a problem with the Fly!!-slicer ?You can see my problem in the attachment. Look at the street or city ( and you see where the night-texture ends) in the circle.Am I doing somethig wrong ?regardsHarald

Hello allI've been following Jean Sabatier's tutorial on aircraft creation and have had a problem once i've extracted and renamed all files in the WORLD ART DATA & Models directories. after that I change fly.ini from searchPodFilesFirst=1 to searchPodFiles=0 but my aircraft does not show on the list when i go to select aircraft. I've already done a little (and when i say little i mean little, I created the Caravelle for Fly back a few years ago) of aircraft creation for fly! 1 but wanted to try my hand at Fly! II . I can only think that it could be because i don't have every file listed in Jean S. tutorial in the WORLD (only a few basic ones) dir nor do I get any file…

I have rendered all of Virginia/Maryland/New Jersy and most of NY. I haven't used TS in a while. The other night I went to render more area. After the downloading/rendering started I went to bed. The next morning the screen showed only the Desktop. Appears that TS had Crashed to the desktop. Has anyone else had this problem? I did update TS to use the new Terraserver when MS changed the address, and I am using the latest as far as I can tell....something like 2.1. Has anyone had this problem? Is there a logfile somewere I can look at to see were the crash occured?I have gotten to the point that I don't fly anywhere that doesnt have TS scenery. Thanks to the TS t…

This is further to my last post on the same subject. Your help solved a number of my questions.I have successfully downloaded and rendered 3 overlapping projects which cover the area from Portland to Astoria. Previously the Portland river did not exist. I thought I would render a small project centered on Mt St Helens. The Terrascene image files were spot on however during a trial flight, on approaching Mt St Helens the programme froze with a window stating:Can't load texture Datad16916564D487D04.RAW. File not found.File: texture.cpp Line 1376.I deleted the pod, data files and started again from scratch.Nearing completion the render process stopped with a window as follows…

There are no detailed free digital maps for Austria available. So I started to draw my own shapefiles for the east of Austria. Here is a preview what the result may look like. On my screenshot you see Eisenstadt in the upper left corner and Lake "Neusiedler See" in the upper right corner. As soon as I have finished a quatertile I will upload my shapefiles as a Beta-Version for testing.Harald

I have been using Terrascene 2.1 and propose producing 4 projects which will overlap each other slightly. Is there any problem with this?Being such big files I propose to copy the pod files to CD to free up HD space until needed. Will it be OK to leave the data files intact or should I include them on the CD as well? The work is in the Portland area and will extend from Mt St Helens to the coast. The results so far with one pod file completed are spectacular.

First, does Captain Sim still provide forum support here at AVSIM? I can't seem to find their forum.Second, the Leg 727 HSI somehow got slaved to the GPS and I can't seem to find a way to un-slave it. Any ideas? Many thanks, Rudi Hiebert

Its been a long time since I've posted here on the forum. I've been extraodinarily busy with my job these days, and all the time I used to spend on the sim I now spend driving to/from DXR and flying in a Piper PA-28-161, very similar to the one modeled by ROTW. I attached a photo below.Flying (for real) has been a dream come true. I took two intro flights as I previously reported (first in late August and another Labor Day weekend). I took to the skies with a regular Saturday lesson just about six weeks ago. I've accumulated a little over seven hours and am loving it.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/50541.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/50545.jpgI wanted to share …

Hi, Wayne. I have begun to organize all of your wonderful airports in FLY2. For the pod and scf files that go into the "scenery" folder I simply create folders and give them the name of each state. So, in short, all of the airports are stored in the scenery folder in their corresponding "state" folders. Now, for those files that are placed in the Data folder, FLY2 does not read them unless they are located right in the data folder. Do you know if there's a work around? Ideally, I'd like to have all the data files for these airport in their separate state folders. Can aoo of these files be place in one large pod, for example.Thanks.tony
