Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Unfortunately, this airport was in the newspaper while we were in Los Angeles. It was bad weather, and a family of 5 crashed in the mountain side after trying to land a second time. It's a good airport to fly to for those of us who want a short flight from the mainland.tony

I had forgotten about Quicksupergen, the automatic scenery generator--just like msfs. Way back , whan I had a slow system, quickgen was simply ahead of its time. Now, however, it's a beauty. Try it.tony

I just got Radeon 9800 Pro 128 and tried using it with lots of graphic problems on the screen. I read and searched the forums and figured out to change the vertex format in render.ini and use the original tridx.dll files. So I got it working fine now with the exception of the landing lights do not work with hardware T&L. If I use the regular DX8 renderer the landing lights work fine, but then the overall graphics don't look as nice. If I use the T&L driver then the landing lights don't work at all. Anyone know of a fix to get the landing lights to work with T&L on the Radeon 9800??? I'm using the catalyst 3.9 drivers if that makes a difference.

After successfully use of FSIMPORT I had to reinstall my system because of a faulty registry. On the new installed system the old backuped scenery is well imported again, but at the certain airports I have to move the runways I am not able to do it.FSIMPORT lets me move the runways, I save it and compile the scenery again - the runways are still at there old position. Is there a default key in the Fly.ini I changed by error ?Thanks in advance.Cord

Hiafter many hours I found a solution to use SRTM Elevation Data in FlyII and is's amazing sipmple.1.) Download and unzip the SRTM-Data. You get a file with the extension .HGT i.e N47E016.hgt.2.) change the extension from .hgt to .ras. N47E016.hgt becomes N47E016.ras.3.) Start FlyII, start the Fly editor pressing CTRL E, select "Import Scenery"4.) Select "DEM" and press "Start". For the Parameters look at Attachment 1.Thats it. Amazing simple, but it took me 3 Weeks to several Posts to figure this one out. The result you see in Screenshot 2.You can get SRTM-Data from ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/Each File contains data for a square of 1

Hi folks,Today I discovered a small conflict. If you have the Avior by Cesar Cedaro in your aircraft folderyou are missing the SW view in the Beechcraf V6 version and all its repaints. The problem can be solved by removing the Avior OR and that`s a better idea ,making a new version of Cesar`s repaint.I`ll try to do that this week.OR: Just unpod the Avior.pod , remove the CAM file and repod again will do.OR: Extract the 1900.cam file from the V6 pod and place it in the world folder. It wil overrule the one in the Avior.podRegardsLeen

Hi all,I have the german release of Fly!II and installation aborts when installing some of the default hires scenery. I can circumvent the problem by just installing the program files and unchecking all other options. Nevertheless, I don't really know what else I am missing and also, if there is something wrong with the CDs I wonder when the day will come that installation wil be impossible. Is this a known problem and if yes, where did you get replacement CDs from?thanksChris

  17. Hi Scenerydesigners!Yesterday was a rainy day, so i downloaded Phyton and wrote my first script. So it's far from perfect, but with this script you can:1.) convert a .hgt-file into a .Raw-rastergrafic, which can be edited with a Paintprogram. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 1.0 (which came with my scanner). I als tried Paint Shop Pro V3 (the trialversion for Win 3.1, which I downloaded yesterday - search for PSP311. It is less then 2MByte big)2.) Convert the edited RAW-File into a RAS File, which you can directly use in FlyII. In the paint Program all missing SRTM-Data are a bright green. Elevations start with blue (becoming a brighter blue up to 256 m), then a dark vio…

Flydevelopers.com is currently seeking a new owner. The hardware here is getting old and I don't have the time needed to keep the site up-to-date. Are there any Fly(II) buddies out there who are interested? I will transfer the domain name and all data. The current system is Redhat Linux with Apache, Mysql, and sendmail. Sorry, you don't get the hardware :) The domain name is paid up until 11 July. If you are interested please drop me an email at [email protected] course I am NOT selling this. I would like someone who has a little experience with the above OS and software, and who is willing to devote the time and resources needed to keep the site running.…

This aircraft is included on the November 2003 cover CD for Computer Pilot Magazine. The readme file states that a file called "ac_defaultFix.pod" is needed but isn't included in the zip file. Apparently it and/or the optional dll drivers came with either the original or an earlier version. Can anyone tell me where I might find this file or the dll files?

Is Wilco's 737 for Fly! compatible with Fly!II? I got the 737 package some time ago but never used it. I aquired Fly!II a few months ago and would like to take Fly! off my hard drive if Wilco's 737 will work in Fly!II (I need the space for Fly!II a/c and scenery)!

  25. These are "Preliminary", i.e. subject to change - of the panels for the Seawind. The Console panel is pretty much set, but the Main panel may yet undergo some additional changes between now and release. These are Medium Quality JPEG images, and am sorry if they exceed the width (Using Shareware program VuePrint would make a nice showing tool). Please keep in mind these are photographic (ala MSFS style), but methinks better overall, since we can scroll around! My goal is to learn trueSpace 3.2 (Bless you, Bart! for the tutorials!!) and try to do the panel in 3D for a version 2 release. But in the interim, this should do nicely, as it is a composite work of a real Seawind p…
