The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I was taking a look at an installed SDK in my environment and found out that it is for Fly! (no mention of Fly! II). Are there any specific SDK for Fly! II? If so, from where I can get it.Any comment on this will be appreciated.ThanksJJLobo

I have spent many, many hours trying to modify existing panels. My goal has been to get very close to a cockpit feel, yet work within the limitations of my time and my(lack of) experience. A true FLY2 panel requires months if not years of painting and understanding of the internal workings of guages. Without a question, ROTW, PMDG and and many other individuals deserve our wholehearthed appreciation. They sure get mine. Now to my question: animating new switches is almost impossible without a tool that would significantly automate the process of creating multi frames renditions of this same image. All of which, would then create the illusion of animation. To put it simply,…

Hi All C4TO Version 3 users (DLL Version). I was previously using V2 with scripts and had some success, so was quite excited when I saw the promised DLL version came out. I installed it as per the readme file and started up Fly!II. After ALT-F12 (no text to indicate anything's working) I load a flight plan with start (KSFO), destination (KLAS) and several waypoints, autogenerated by the flight planner. When I press Alt-A, the frequency of the comm radio changes, but when I press Alt-C, no sound is emitted. I can hear engine sounds and I can, in desparation, use the built-in ATC. Am I missing something? I am flying the PMDG 757, which the readme says is supported, s…

I have spent endless hours trying to figure this one out only to find that the problem was not with the EFIS gauge at all. It was a conflict with the co-pilot's HSI. I have removed this guage from the attached TBM main panel file. All you need to do is unzip the file into your data folder in your FlyII folder and enjoy. This file also includes a fix for the KMA24 audio panel that Alejandro Amigorena sent me back in May.I have had two longer winded explanations with attempts at posting this message so my brief message above and lowered enthusiasm is only because I am now quite frustrated at how to post this file so that others can enjoy it. This time I am making a cop…

I was getting ready to create some taxiways for Virginia Tech (kbcb) when I noticed there is a tower right in the middle of runway 12!! Does any know how to move this sucker? I wasn't able to select it in the scenery editor. Does this mean some database tweaks?I did a quick search in the file library and didn't see any other fixes posted. Thanks again!!

I'm using a ATI 9800 AIW card but I noticed that DirectX T&L is not working even when it's enabled. What I mean here is that the aircraft color doesn't change with the sun's reflection. I'm, getting a minimum of 40 FPS cockpit view all slider max and 65-100 external view with 4X AA and 6X ANISO set.any thoughts on this.chris-CA

Hello all,I've figured it out! a way of seeing my plane in the select aircraft dialog. seems i wasn't doing anything wrong afterall just that J sabatier's tutorial should be changed to suit Macintosh...I'll refer you to this post in the Fly! forum:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=2596&mode=fullWhat I did was used EPD tools for Mac which was developed during Fly !'s era and created a .epd of the project (actually I just used the .zip I had on the internet that Fly II Pilot d/led) and placed it in the aircraft directory...there it was Caravelle 210 but not at the top of the list...looks like we'll have a baby caravelle soon! Luckily, as in that post above, …

Hi everyone, I haven't used Fly! II in quite a while, but I decided tonight to fire it back up again. However, when I tried, I got "Can't find valid video mode" in a dialog box, and the program exits. I tried all possible combinations of settings on the graphics setup screen, but nothing worked. I have a 64MB onboard vido card, which used to work Fly! II just fine. I have DirectX 9 running. Any ideas?Richard

Hi, I'm getting intense flickering and a 'squashed' display when I try to use Fly!II with my new Radeon 9600 Pro 128Mb based video card at 1024x768. It was working fine with my GeForce 2 GTS (32Mb). I can't see any mentions of issues with it in the forums or on the ATI web site, but being able to run Fly with hi-res textures was part of the reason for buying the card. Is this a known issue or am I the first to have problems. If I get it working, do I have to fiddle with Render.ini or will it be updated automatically for my 128Mb card?Just wanting to get back in the air and try my new PMDG 757 and the new C4TO DLLs tooThanks for any help,Colin Beggmailto:Colin.Begg@…

Before I upgraded from NVDIA to ATI the T&L Setting in FLY2 works (the sun's reflection affect the color of water but not the aircraft). I was wondering if it has something to do with the directX driver I upgraded to directX 9b. I've noticed that in the FLY2 directory it only have tridx8.dll and tridxt&L.dll, is there a way to make a tridx9.dll?Help will be appreciated.chris-CAFly2Asus MBWD raptor512 mb Mushkin 3200winXP

I just wanted to publicly thank Ken Salter for the wonderful information and FAQ's. I recently acquired European Version 2.0.197 on ebay and found his info to update it all to 2.5.240 and also added the global update. It all worked perfectly according to Ken's instructions.I have been a FS2002 and FS2004 user, but after using fly I am beginning to be won over by Fly! II. I have also downloaded and run Terrascene 2.1 and tonight I made 3 tiles for the area where I live and they look great, takes a little studying but worth it.Thanks Again Ken and Blue Skies,DannyLanark Village,FL

This post if more for the new hands. There always seems to be something new to discover with FLY2.I have been a little disappointed that all the features of the Vector map view in FLY were not duplicated in FLY2.However I discovered by accident that if you click and move the curser on the map view you get a distance measurement.Great stuff!Richard.
