The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi guys,I hope some of you are like me and have kept FLY2K on your computer. I still like to fly it on occasion. Great sim!I recently bought a FX5600XT 256M card. Really makes FLYII sing! FLY2K CTD (crash to desktop).I tried placing the dx8tl.dll, dx8.dll, and dx7.dll and modifying the fly.ini. It would actually work fine untill I go to outside view... then I get a "unknown D3D error. CTD.Surely some of you gurus out there have already found a way to uprade FLY2K to accomodate the new cards. Would you help me?Thanks,Earl

I downloaded Lennart's scenery for Palma de Mallorca for Fly2k and installed it. In the flight planner, I entered LEPA in the ICAO section- no recognition. I tried airport name, and it was recognized.I hit the FLY button, but the textures are the Ground Control ones. Also, the airport in the map view is LESJ, not LEPA. I slew around, go to the islands of Ibiza and Menorca, but no special textures there either. So where is the airport Lennart is referring to?Any ideas?Eytan

that I had written about a while back. Our dear friend Azzurro suggested that I write a tutorial on it, and so I wrote one. It's light and , hopefully, fun and instructive. Enjoy!tony

which will show how I use the default FMC and flight planner screen to input navigation points for a STAR approach. If you're flying into many of the major airports, some twenty miles before the airport, you're asked to fly a particular STAR (standard arrival route ) path that will get you for a clearance to a specific runway. This is a must if you're planning to fly with VATSIM on-line. So, practice some of these, and flying on line will be easy. tony

Check out the projects page at Flydevelopers.com and take a look at a video of the Seawind taking off from the water in Fly! II. It is a Windows Media File (WMV) running about 50 seconds - and hopefully dial-up users will not have too long a wait for it to play. We are getting closer to getting this right! Just a few more bugs to work out!Cheers!Ken Wood :-sun1Seawind Projecthttp://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/bannernewkw.jpgGateway 700X; Intel P4 2.4GHz; 512MB RAM; NVIDIA Ti4200 4X AGP 128MB; SB Audigy; Thrustmaster TopGun Fox 2 Pro Shock

Zane Gard Jr. has written a wonderful review of ROTW's Socata TBM-700 and it is posted on Flightsim at http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/tbm700.htmIt was surprising enough to see Fly! even mentioned there, and a real pleasure to see that Zane had written his review based as a comparison btwn Fly!II/ROTW and the real thing (he recently took a test flight in a real TBM-700 and was able to give a detailed description - photos and images included). That isn't all - Zane does an outstanding job of covering the history of TRI/Fly! and incorporates some of the interplay btwn. Rich Harvey & TRI, Rob Young, PMDG, and of course, developers such as ROTW.Some of you…

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to edit/update the airport database in Infometar 1.01? I am based in Western Australia and find that generating metar for any flight in this region using FSBuild and InfoMetar results in unkown or errant airport codes. This program is very useful but there has been no update since version 1.01 as far as I can find. Can someone suggest a fix?Ken:-roll

Did anyone else experience this problem? I have no trouble with all other aircrafts, except with the 757 and 777 PMDG aircrafts. Also, with the 757 the autopilot is malfunctioning: when I turn it on, all the other buttons come on and the MFD turns off. When I turn it off, the MFD comes on. The only thing I can think of is that some of the dll, such as the atc and a few others, might be affecting it? tony
