Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi FLYers, all things sorted in your FLY! folders? OR several *.ini, *.ren, *.RTR, *.AMP files, not knowing the exact differences? Wishing to analyze two different airplane files, you have unpodded? Then you should have a perfect tool for that! Found it yesterday when looking for some Delphi algorithm.Angus Johnsons gives it as FREEWARE AND SOURCE Code. You mustn't be a programmer at all, get the package TDiff Version 4.0 from Freeware Delphi Components & Utilities by Angus Johnsonhttp://www.users.on.net/johnson/delphi/ When you have downloaded the package "diff.zip" then you will find the sub-zip "TextDiff.zip" included in diff.zip with the COMPILED file and helpfile …

  4. Hi all,I have never bothered to map all axes to input devices because I don't have that many anyway. However, the manual explicitly says that one can control the engines of multiengined aircraft together or individually using a single throttle axis (page 11). When looking at the axis mapping utility I find it asking a separate axis for each engine. I can get away mapping "throttle" to my throttle axis which takes care of all engines simultaneousy, but how do I then restrict this axis in-game to say engine 2 only? Or am I getting something wrong here?ThanksChris13

  8. For those of us who use TerraScene, it is not currently possible to create new USGS-designated scenery unless you already have the USGS geographical data downloaded. For those of you who are using my render packs, this will not be a problem, as I included all the data in the packs. However, all of us are now unable to download new data for new areas, as the USGS site has either been closed down, has technical difficulties, or is being moved. The original home page for the data still exists, but most of the page text is gone, none of the links work, and the FTP locations for the data itself are all gone. This means you cannot generate new scenery with TS unless you already …

Hi. Has anyone else been experiencing problems lately (as of Sat.,Jan.17,2004) while attempting to render a scenery tile with TerraScene 2.1? As the program connects to download data from it's sources such as USGS etc., it repeatedly fails, stating connection failed=java.net.Is this a problem possibly with my own configuration or is perhapsthe site location off-line? Maybe something else?Anyone with any ideas, I'd sure be much obliged. Thanks, dall1w

Just wanted to thank you for all the effort you are putting into the various airports around Kansas. Once apon a time, I terramodeled just about every airport in Kansas was as absoultly much detail as I could. I made flights out to the airports and took dozens of pictures. This was back with TM first busted onto the scene. I never did release them as no one really wants to Fly! in Kansas... :) Since then, I've upgraded my hardware several times and for whatever reason, the Kansas airports never made the move to the new hard drives. So, your work is really appriciated. Thanks bud.Pieter

Hi everybodyMaybe somebody can provide some clues? I thought installing FS9 was difficult..! Here we go. I 'need' to put Fly! (ll) on a computer. To start, I've got two sets of software. One reads fly 2k (4 CDs), the other fly!ll (2 CDs). The story: A daughter of a friend will start to learn flying this summer. 'Her' aeroclub has advised use of the before mentioned program as training software. They have a junior program which allows learning to fly gliders (to start) at next to no cost. Besides, wow, I would have loved to have that where I grew up... Anyway, a few freinds and my family are giving a training computer with the following specs (so far): VIA333 mainboard, AM…

I have been flying a real Piper as of late, and created this checklist of pre-flight, in-flight and emergency procedures. Thought Fly!2 flyers might enjoy when flying ROTW's PA-28, particularly the engine start procedures since most of them will work in the simulated plane. Is anyone interested? If so, I'll post the ZIP to this thread. Let me know.-DK----David KohlFly! II v2.5.240Dell 8200 P4/1.8G, 1024MB RAM, Nvidia GF4 Ti4600 v52.16, WinXP Home Edition SP1.CH Pro Pedals and Yoke USB.

Hi!Yesterday I downloaded the ROTW-PA28 with GPS. Congratulations. The moving Map is really a gem.But it would be nice to have have streets, rivers and roads for Europe (and in my case especially Austria). My idea is to convert shapefiles into the needed ROTW-.dat files. (maybe convert them first with terrashape into Autocad .dxf, which is a plain readable text format and from .dxf into the needed ROTW-Format.)So my Question is: is anybody working on a tool like this ?Harald

that we find on the Hawker and those planes that use it, such as Giorgio's 737. If you want to load the flight plan once you are in flight without having to click "start flight plan" in the flight planning menu, I believe you can do it by following these steps:1. Enter the Fligh Plan screen 2. enter your departure airport and select it.3. enter your arrival airport and select it.4. Now the map should show both departure and destination airports.5. you can "genereta a route"6. you should now have your route displayed on the map7. Instead of clicking "start flight plan", simply exit by clicking on the cross located in the upper right corner of the screen. 8. When you get ba…
