Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Recently returned to Fly!2 and bought, once again, the PMDG757. Does anyone know how to get the EHSI to select the ILS, VOR display. I have selected the appropriate selection via the rotary knob on the lower centre pedestal but there is no change on the EHSI. Correct frequency is selected. When the aircraft is changed to for example a DC9 everything works as it should.I have gone through the manual looking for some thing I missed and can't find anything. Also I flew an EFIS equipped aircraft in my career - Saab340 - for a few years and there are similarities but I can't find anything wrongly selected. Still looking though. I am wondering if something might be corrupt in th…

Hello all,Just thought I'd give a heads up. I have posted a panel fix to the FlyII/Misc files that fixes the crash to desktop when switching navigation sources on the EFIS display in ROTW's TBM-700 when using it in Windows 2000/XP. This files retains a fully functional co-pilot's HSI and also adds fuel pump switches when using the overhead panel (useful during startup if you forgot to set them when in main panel view) and has files for both the original and EAAT repaint of the TBM-700. As with the previous beta file I placed in the forum, ROTW has full permission to use this file.Enjoy, it should show up in tomorrow's files,Zane

I have found this a useful addon and activate it during most flights. I have noticed however that if the hub is activated while the "altitude pre select" or/and the a/p "approach" mode is in operation the programm CTDT. Have any of you experienced this?Richard.

Can anyone tell me in which files/files that fly2 stores the Key strokes,Yoke button allocations and axis setup. Is the windows registry involved anywhere specifically with Fly2? I'm having some problems with my CH USB yoke manfunctioning on an intermittant basis for no apparent reason, yet it functions perfectly well with FLY.Closing to the desktop momentarily corrects the situation, using a very strange key; ALT,TAB,CONTROL.The problem first occurred when flying around Lake Tahoe using downloaded scenery and airports from Avsim-also in some scenery areas around downloaded airports in Norway. It now occurs all the time. There is nothing more frustrating when coming into lan…

Hi,I finally managed to try out squawkbox today. Did a flight in the cessna, and it all went beautifully. If anyone has been 'thinking' about it, but hasnt tried it out, I'd really reccomend it. It wasnt perfect (I didnt use voice, and there werent alot of controllers) but it did add a new dimension to the flight. Pop on to an airport with a couple controllers, and listen/watch for a few mins. Everyone was nice, and it wasnt nearly as hard as I'd let myself believe it would be.I have a few questions though...For starters, the document that came with Squawkbox mentions that one should always use the same call sign. Im confused what the callsign should be? Is it a ta…

Set up a flight from PBI to LGA with C4TO active. Flight plan's first waypoint was off Georgia so I could enjoy my Florida scenery then up along the coast to LGA. Got up to Daytona Beach area and left to pet store. Came back and had this error. DCHS0814.SMP, SMODEL.CPP, Line 3201. Scenery along Georgia through Virginia is Randall Rocke's Terrascene and Wayne's airports sprinkled througout. Last time something lik this happened it was Terrascene looking for an airport, I think! Flight could not have gotten further north then North Carolina or southern Virginia at best. Any ideas fellas?JamesHmmm... Tastes Like Chicken!

The FTP site appears to be operating again - the USGS responded to me this morning that all appeared to be working properly and apologized for any inconvenience.Even with this data being accessible again by direct FTP or through TerraScene, I'm worried about the future. Many of the graphics elements that used to link to this data on their web site have been removed or the links no longer function. Obviously, there are changes being made that make it more difficult for the general public to use the data.I have asked the USGS rep to give us the inside dope on what their plans are. If they are going to be selling the data in the future like they did with the 7.5 DEMs, then w…

I recently had installed a new HD and re-installed win98. This changed the hd that terrascene2 is loaded on from "D" to "E". When I try to open TS2 I get this error: "corrupted or missing .props file. reinstall terrascene: D:TerraScene2state.props(the system cannot find the path specified)"I've looked in Terrascene2 root directory hoping to find a config file of some sort to re-direct it to look in the new "E" drive path. There any way to correct this besides a re-install of Terrascene2?Thankyou,JimB

Maybe I didn't read the text file correctly, what is this for? Do I simply places the attached files in their respective folders and my Skyhawks will have a moving map? If not how would one go about incorporating it into the Skyhawk, Pilatus (replacing the radar), etc.I've been flying the last few days and enjoying my new scenery for the Florida project and really like this moving map. I'll finish up the last 4 tiles in the next week and upload everything shortly thereafter. Does this moving map allow us to add to our existing aircraft or should we re-paint and add it to new ones? IF you guys do the Pilatus, I recommend my spongebob plane which included a base repain…

Hello Fellas, Learned the hard way and with Randall Rocke's help in setting the correct order when adding Tiger2000 shapefiles, any shapefiles for that matter in Terrascene. The only two that could be switched are the UA and PLC00 files. I opened them in ArcExplorer and flipped them back and forth for the best diversity. Other then that this is the order to layer them in Terrascene. I don't use the WAT files and many times find c,d,e and kgl too small to bother with. Thought I'd share in case some weren't aware. Also to establish a standard as we begin to render the United States, its Territories, and abroad. Any input always appreciated!UAPLCAirOOKGLLPYLKHLKELKD…
