Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

As we face the first anniversary of the heinous attacks against America, I wish to once again thank our Canadian brothers and sisters for their gracious friendship that, although always strong, was so evident one year ago.I just finished watching a PBS documentary called "Stranded Yanks." It related the experiences of American travelers whose aircraft were diverted to Canadian airports when US airspace was closed.I was partly aware of this hospitality through a Canadian member of this forum who reported some of the activities in his town during the period immediately after Sept 11. He was too modest. The documentary brought home to me the incredible scale and scope of the …

Hi Pete,Remember when you said you couldn't do the new IcelandAir livery for the 747-500 because of the rudder problem? Well, now that you've started painting 757s, do you think you could whip up a 757 IcelandAir with the new livery? I would be eternally grateful! :-)Cheers, Tony

As some of you know, I'm putting together a presentation to show at the AVSIM conferences this weekend. I'd like to have a few screenshots showing the "best" of Fly! (any version), and was hoping you could help me out.If you have any screenshot you feel is "jaw dropping" good and should be shown to a crowd of primarily FS2K2 fans, this is your chance! I'd love to share your screenshot with the audience. I'll pick 3-5 of the shots received for the presentation. I can't offer you anything for your trouble, just the knowledge that you made my presentation more exciting. If you have shots to share, please e-mail them (JPEG's highly preferred) to [email protected]. Hi, How is the repaint looking??I reinstalled fly yesterday, and installing only addons I need, but after putting Boston, when I wanted to teleport, Fly said I was missing tmground.tif.Where do I get that?? I have everything the readme says... so???Thanks

I have an idea for an add-on. It would be cool to have an addon that would save the configuration the airplane is in when you either close fly or switch aircraft. For example, If I leave the flaps down, next time I start fly, the flaps are already down. This would also been cool with the trim. I find myself skipping things on the check list because I know fly reset these each time fly exits. This would add a more real touch to the check list!! Any thoughts??

Dear James:Can't find your email address in any readme files. Long time no speak! Quick question - where do you get those AWESOME "jetways" for your Terramodel work (ie - Atlanta, Cleveland, etc). Also, where do those really cool darker colored orange Southwest planes come from (the only ones I have are much lighter & not as nice). Finally, where do you get the great (older) Delta planes from?Thank a million for the info. I wish my Terramodel stuff could look as nice as yours! :-)Sincerely,Chris Catalano

Good morning everyone:Whenever I attempt to fly to, through or around the New York City area, I receive the following error and crash to the desktop."Can't load texture DATAD2031597917A54.RAW: file not foundFile: Texture.cppLine 1376"My attempt at correcting the problem has failed. I deleted all of the NYC files and reinstalled Scott's NYC_v1DA file, making sure all instructions were followed. Nothing seems to eliminate the error. Any Ideas would be greatly appriciated! Thanks in advance for any help!Curtis

Hello everybody,I am working on the same project than Brad_B to update database from NIMA/DAFIF data ;)Presently at ROTW we are testing this work on Fly! and Fly!II. In a few day you'll be able to download COMM, ILS, NAVAID, WAYPOINT and ATSROUTE/GRAPH. These work could be done with a new version of VolEdit. But COMM and ILS need short works before to be used by VolEdit.Any other project : YES of course.Ren

I just noticed that the TS2 roads looked a LOT better on Johnny`s computer than mine. He has a GF3 grapics card, and I have a GF4Ti4600.After some thinking I enabeled the Fly II High Detail textures. The roads were suddenly fine, but the rest of the scenery got very blocky, no matter what I tried with Texel Alignment and by experimenting with the graphics options in Fly II. Is there a known problem with High Detail texures and choosing "More than 32MB" in the Fly II graphics options?Anyone experiencing this problem, any solutions? Or must I leave High Detail textures and go back to those VERY ugly roads?Btw, the blockiness shows in both default and TS scenery.First pic wi…

Good morning all:I have downloaded Tony Crider's WindsAloft program from the AVSIM Library and onto my machine as directed in the Readme.txt file and nothing happens! Nothing shows up when pressing Alt-F6! What am I doing wrong? I unzipped to a temp file and copied the unzipped contents to my Fly!IIsystemmodulesPC folder.Am I to assume (#####-u-me) that when the instructions state "copy WindsAloft.DLL" to that folder, only that file is to be copied and not the other files, (not including the readme.txt and Avsim.diz files)? Help!! Thank you in advance for any help that is offered.Curtis

Because Rob Young and crew (RealAir Simulations) who did so well with airplanes for FLY/FLYII have created a sensational one for FS2002. The Marchetti SF 260. They have definately upped the bar in both virtual cockpits and flight dynamics. Very nicely working spins and sensational slips to landings. The reviews have been great on this one, which is really great because it was their first payware release into the world of MSFS which seems to have it's own well known and respected payware specialists. I do believe they'll get credit where it's due with this one!!L.Adamson

I was one one of the original beta team and have not flown FlyII for a while. I just recently constructed a 2.4Ghx system with a Geforce 4 TI4600. As I had hoped, FlyII was essentially fluid at the highest settings in the sim. However, after flying one time the second attempt to start the sim resulted in the subsystm.cpp, line 254, "Subsystem not registered" error. I have read all the posts, and deleted the hst and default files. I was eventually able to get back in but it appears that rather consistently, this error is generated on the next startup.I would appreciate any insight into this error that anyone may have. I never saw this error during the extensive beta te…
