Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hello, I was just wondering if I can program gauges, etc for Fly!II in C#? I understand you can prgram in C/C++ and Python, just wonder if it's possible in C# or do I have to use C/C++ or Python?

  7. G'day all,Just finished uploading a repaint of the DC930 Air Canada by Jean Sabatier and Roberto Vigetti.About 6 weeks ago I posted some cockpit views and carried out a quick poll on 1024 x 768 versus 800 x 600 resolutions. As a result of that poll I am pleased to say that both resolutions have been incorporated in this repaint, Appologies for the forward quarter views. Cheers,Roger @YSSY

Those of us who fear the end of FLY need to take a look at AS2 to find how some sims can live forever. AS2 is the (almost) exclusive product of one man with a great vision: to provide the most realistic airline sim to the simmers at large. When one considers the fact that it's a DOS program, it's something to see with respect to flight fidelity and entertainment. The MD83 cockpit, all analog, is a beauty. The sim starts up quckly, it's fast and its career mode, which provides 99 ATC controlled structured and scored assignments engage a simmer for a long time. The price, at $150, keeps the author going. The author is now working on AS3, which will be Windows based, but, in…

I ran across a news article that states the Greek government "explicitly forbids electronic games with 'electronic mechanisms and software' from public and private places." The news article on CNET states that gameboys and computer games on home computers are outlawed and subject to heavy fines. Don't we have Greek members of our Fly! community? Perhaps you could make the argument that since Fly!II is so realistic, its more of a simulator than a game. Can any from our Greek community clear this up for me? Here is the link to the article I read:http://news.com.com/2100-1040-956357.html?...ne.dht.nl-hed.0

I have to align the rightside graphics and do some touchups on the left side, then this one will be uploaded. I'll also add the Chinese script and change the name for ANA's previous livery. This weekend, perhaps.Pete

  21. Just uploaded my latest Japanese airport: Yao (RJOY). This is Osaka's GA airport. It has two runways and lies between Itami and Kansai airports, somewhat to the east. Excellent airport to fly out of to practice ILS landings at Itami. Remember this airport is only for GA aircraft but happens to be Japan's largest. There are not many dedicated GA airports in Japan, but this one's really nice and in a good location. Try it out and have fun.A couple of pics to wet your appetite.http://www.avsim.com/flylinks/yao1.jpg http://www.avsim.com/flylinks/yao2.jpgCheers,

Here's a couple of interesting pictures showing the border between TS2 scenery and Matt's So Cal. I think it's safe to say that Matt's scenery establishes the highest benchmark to date for Fly II. While there is a noticeable difference between TS2 and photo base, the TS2 ain't bad and now that it is fully automated with Fly II it is within the capabilities of the average user. It looks like the saturation levels could also be bumped up a little more over the default TS2. I do not render city streets in my TS2 scenery and this comparision shows why. I also make the highways 1 pixel wider than the default but it looks like I could go wider yet. Even the railroads line up pr…

I know,Its me saying thankyou yet again, but when I see such good stuff coming out for my favorite sim, you just have to thank all those who share their hard work with the rest of us. Wayne, Jim, Harald, Giorgio, the list goes on. The rate of scenery, repaints & aircraft is fab. If you sat down and tried to use all the new addons we have, could you find the time for anything else? No.. Not enough hours...Not enough free time.... But still they come, its fantastic. Well I started off to just thank Wayne but to all you guys who work so hard for this sim...... ThankyouKind regards Stevie :-bat
