The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi I'm very new to FLY! II, but have played FS 2000 and before alot. It's a new experience to sit in the cockpit and have to manoeuver around the cockpit with a mouse. With a stick, a throttle and a keyboard, I wish I had five hands. I's there a way to see all the cockpit (forward view) without having to use the mouse, or does anyone have some inside tips to make this operation easier, using the mouse stick on the HOTAS. I am very greatfull to every little tip, or even a little pitty for a newbie in the FLY! II community....Sincerely!kmeliasAMB Duron 2000+, 512 MB RAM, Asus 8420 128 MB, XP, 80 GB HD, Saitek X 45 HOTAS

In due time hopefully I can share this scenery but I need your suggestions as to the acceptable or appropriate water texture/color for a scenery. Here some pix of Hongkong and I marked the color of the water "A", "B", & "C". Your suggestions will be appreciated.Chris Salviejorpll

Greetings, I am looking to get back into Fly!2K for IFR practice. I thought those flight models were the best for this type of "flying". I do like creating Terrascene, but how do I create Terrascene in Fly!2k? I believe Jack Fearon "pulled" his textures for Terrascene. Is there a backward compatability procedure for the textures in Fly!2? I thought I saw a "procedure" for that on Ken Salter's website but the site is down. Any help appreciated!Jason"flying the instruments"

I am going through the simvol site, as I wish to fly in Europe!I have already downloaded all of their France maps as well as the new DEX files for French airports. All is well with these.I also downloaded the French taxiways pod file and applied it.I extracted the taxiusa.pod file, removed all instances of French taxiways, and repodded it.Some airports, however, give me this:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d85427a0c104083.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d8542880c204dd9.jpgIs this normal? Or did I miss something?BTW, this is on a fresh machine, fresh install of XP, fresh install of Fly2, patched to 230, elevation patch applied.P3 500 MHz, GeForce 3 v…

Tonight (MEZ) I uploaded V1.1 of my Zmodeler tutorial. Changes are:1) Use of the material editor. You do not need to export/import your model as .bin-file to see a texture in the UV-Mapper2.) how to use Background pictures to find the right proportions of a building3.) A workaround for the error message when importing SMF-Files.Make sure, you have the newest Zmodeler from 31. Aug. 2002. There are different versions 1.06f avaiable with different dates. In the zmodeler download section you always get the newest one.Harald

I have uploaded all of the revised NY scenery. There is now one shared pod containing just shared models. All the scenery files and location specific models are defined by scf coverage, in neat folders for your scenery folder.I thinned all of it out a bit, utilized more distance hiding, and reduced the texture memory needed for Ozzie Dave's city clusters. The scenery is adjusted to line up (generally) with terrascened areas, so if you have generic ground textures things may look a little astray. Maybe you won't even notice.Vin Scimone created some fantastic bridges for New York City. Thanks.More extraneous models and non night models are mostly all "Complex" now. This mea…

I had the great pleasure and privlege of meeting Rich and many other simmers at this year's conference in Tahoe. The whole experience was much more emotional than I expected, especially when Tom presented Rich with this award. I'm really glad I was there to witness it and I'm sure I'll rememeber it for the rest of my life. Inspirational is the best word I can think of to describe it. Rich, you are truly a class-act guy and I feel very lucky to have worked with you and met you in person. See you at the next conference!http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/wild/conf/rich-award.jpgRich's talk was great. I hope Rich can share his presentation with everyone because he presente…

Good Morning,I am proud to present the first screenshots from the Island Texel/Netherlands. The biggest Island of Netherlands in North-Sea with its airport EHTX is missing in FlyII, soI made it from sat-images. At this time there is only the landscape image, no models or scenery. A DEX File with EHTX is in the package. But see by yourself, even without models I hope it is a fun to fly around the shore.I will upload the POD-File and additional Infos and Pictures in a few days.Greetings, Michael from Bonn/Germany.D_Mick - [email protected]

Anyone know why my Hawker jet will not load properly? It either crashes before loading, or loads with a wierd looking string of alpha-numeric characters across the glare shield, - & THEN crashes a few moments later. Here is the error message I get from my fly gfto.txt file:Msg: Runtime execption code c0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 005D71D3File: WINRUN.CPP line 165Time: Sun Sep 15 16:29:30 2002errno = 2 (No such file or directory)As usual - only in Fly2 does this kind of stuff happen. This HAS to be the most unstable sim ever invented. I spend more time trying to fix the sim each week than I do flying around.sincerely,Chris Catalano

Hello,No, I am not organizing this. I am saying this because I am unable to fly with this guy myself, due to problems with my copy of Fly!.He's having a flight from MOB to PNS to MOB right now at this very moment, using METAR weather.Details and IP here:http://flightboards.4gigs.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?section=flyClick on the link that says "Active flight - click to join" and you will see the IP in the upper left corner. Then simply start Fly! and join the flight. More help is available here if you need it:http://flightboards.4gigs.com/help/boards.shtml#joinHe will probably be on for a couple of hours. Hope you will have fun together. :)Regards,Dave

Hi i tried to add night textures to the SFO terrascene area but it doesn't seem to take effect in the scenery. I CHECKED the following check boxes in the render window : USGS, GENERATE NIGHT TEXTURE, SLICE WITH FLY EDIT, 1 IMAGE PER GLOBE . When I checked the output folder in TS2 the night texture is there. Did I miss any step in the process. Any suggestion pls.Thank you.chris salviejorpll
