Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Just thinking , How hard would it be to do a cessna 172 Rg ( Retractable Gear) With the avanti , It has almost the same gear movement. Just Longer gear legs. And add the propeller adustment knob, and that should be it! Any Developers Comment`s Welcome . Jeff Akins

Today, I received an email from "[email protected]" with no subject and an encoded attachment. My email system (Lotus Notes) could not decode the attachment (looks like it might be UUencoded or something like that).Did anyone else receive this email? Can someone please re-send the attachement to me inside a ZIP file? Or post the tip (assuming its a tip since the email address says "FLY-TIPS..."?Thanks.-DK----David KohlFly! I remember reading something about the web address changing for the LAND USE files or something a long those lines and that the older version of terrascene doesn't work with FLY2k anymore. I can't find anything about using terrascene with FLY2k though and before I DL gb of stuff I wondered if anyone knew what I need.I have both FLY2 and FLY2k but like FLY2k better - it runs much better on my computer.please help

First I wanna say AWSOME inside!! One quick question...The top panel looks really great but how do I use some of the systems that were up there, such as anti-ice systems, main air valves and such?Again I wanna say that the internal views made my mouth drop. They are great. Awsome job Roger.

Hello,I have read many posts on this topic, and found the same problem, that the complex patch can not be installed correctly. (Old file .... content error )I found a possible solution:The patch installs, modifies files, and registry entries. This activity can be monitored by the Totaluninstall software (TotalUninstall V2.20 is freeware and can be downloaded from SAC ftp)This software gives a list of files, registry entries which were changed during the patching process. After succesful patching you can analyze the list, and manually grab the changed files and registry entries into a zip file (with subdirectories)To get a correct list of changes you have to begin the proc…

I have red the post about dynamic scenery, I am sorry not everybody has been able to get the lazy truck move.I just wanted to give you an update about my findings on Dynamic Scenery so far...1.- Apparently the .S00 and .S001 files are very picky about letter case, use the tag on lower case. I don't know if it was coincidence but my truck moved as soon as I edited that tag ( it was not moving while the tag was on Upper case ) 2.- When editing the Scenery and adding the moving truck ( following the tutorial ) you are able to watch the truck move within the editor mode AND when exiting from the Editor mode, BUT not when exiting FLY and comming back. - This is true, FLY d…

Hi folkls,I`ve just downloaded the new Piaggio and I was surprised about the new-created Strob-lights.They are bright and short flashing (like in the reality) - SUPER!!!For you who have created the Avanti, can you also design new strob/beacon-lights for the other FLYII aircrafts? That would be great.BYE, Mike

  19. Every time I try to place a model in the scenery editor - I get a crash with this error message -Msg: Runtime execption code c0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) at address 008F59B9File: WINRUN.CPP line 165Time: Sat Oct 05 22:23:35 2002errno = 2 (No such file or directoryI use Terramodels2.2. It seems the only way this crash does not happen is if I REMOVE the TM2.mlf from my data folder - then all is well again. However, TM22 needs this file to offer awesome plane models to choose from. How can I get this to work properly?ThanksChris Catalano

Well at least planes and Jeeps. In December of 2001 Richard Harvey hosted a luncheon for Dallas area Fly users and during a tour of the TRI facility, Rich mentioned he was working on a project for Chrysler. In today's newspaper there is story titled "Video game drives Jeep sales". Apparently fourteen percent of the Jeep Rubicons sales through August 8 were to people who downloaded the TRI game EVO2. Pretty smart of Chrysler, they picked the right guy.
