Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Hi everyone !I have both Fly! and Fly!II. Each version has its own advantages and its own drawbacks. I'd like to know which version of Fly! do you prefer and WHY ? (Why one version is better than the other ? ...)As for me, I think Fly! is better than Fly!II regarding the clouds, the number of aircraft, of sceneries. With Fly!, you can "flatten" an aiport whereas with Fly!II, it's not yet possible. Moreover, Fly!II are heavier than Fly! ones.Thank you for your answer !Damien BRUNET (LFQQ)e-mail : [email protected], L'Univers de Damien BRUNEThttp://www.udb.fr.st/

I know this issue has been addressed before; I apologize for bringing it up again here.I notice when playing back a takeoff (and in some instances, landing) the wheels seem to not exist. I guess I can live without it but was wondering if there was a fix for this?Any help??John BauderFly!2K MAC/Fly II PC UserPalm Springs, California, [email protected]

Had a PROB. My hard drive would not let me in my computer, And had to upgrade the hard drive. It took me all weekend to install this monster! What was 6 Gb is now 32 Gb (2)For storage. Done by myself and not experienced in this field, That`s why it took me so long. Still caught my self looking @ the forums at work. Seems to me like not much going on. Anyway , glad to be back. Hope Steve Brown is keeping us updated On his repaint tutorial Jeff Akins aka : pilotsim7828

Good morning all:Can someone tell me what causes the stuttering and/or CPU hesitations (hang ups/pauses) while using Fly!II? Very frustrating to say the least!! At times, my unit gets good frame rates, and runs so smoothly, yet at times, my unit will pause or hang up or stutter. I think that I have a unit with enough power for Fly!II, (one can never have enough power); 733Mhz CPU, 512Mb RAM, Win'98SE operating system, Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4400 graphic card with 128 on board RAM. I remember reading other postings regarding this same problem. Does anyone have a fix, or is anyone working on a fix. Is this a Fly!II bug? If it is, will the fix be included or being considered …

Hi,I downloaded the flynavdat_cycle0209_full_dex.zip file but couldn't update the Fly II POD's. I believe I readed and executed the instructions correctly, but with no success. DexImport always freeze after some seconds. So I decided to ask if someone can put in a site for download the updated POD's.Regards,:-beerchugMarco Antonio SilvaBrazil

Is there a way to reduce the size of the panels in the Bell 407s? They take up well over 50 percent of the screen and it is impossible for me to see where I'm going, much less where I want to land.I can change my eyepoint, but that really isn't as much help as I'd like. I need to see more ground real estate. Thanks for any help.-Lindy :-wave

  14. Over the last few months (on and off) I have been digging a bit deeper into the scenery capabilities of Fly!2, I found several undocumented tricks while poking around and experimenting with .Tga.Raw and .Opa image files. This will only be of interest to the likes of ROTW, Pascal and any other Fly!2 scenery designers, but I also believe it will be of benefit to the lifespan of Fly!2 as a whole.1) All runway textures are capable of the standard 256x256 pixel dimension, but also 512x512 and 1024x1024. I have been using a custom high resolution runway at 512x512 (see second pic).2) The water textureanimation is at 128x128 pixels standard, this can also be replaced with 256x25…

Just recently I bought Fly!2 and upon installing and running it I have extremely LOW fps when in the outside view so slow to the point that I can't get to the cockpit view (where I can get good FPS) sometimes. Can anyone tell me how to correct this? Another thing is that when flying I see the ground and it looks as though the aircraft textures are plastered to the ground. Any help would be appreciated. But otherwise I love the game because its got nice cockpits and clouds and flight dynamics. Thanks in advanceGrant Z.P.S. I've got a voodoo 3 card but otherwise meet system requirements.
