Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

I am thinking of making a model of the PZL-104 "Wilga" 35/80 after having seen one parked on the ramp of the local airstrip. They are one of the gooniest looking things ever to make the air, but at the same time they seem to draw my attention like some sort of Elegant Back-woods Bush A/C.What is even more interesting is that recently the PZL company has become part of EADS, the same people that make the Socata line![link:http://www.pzl-okecie.com.pl/wilga.htm]PZL-104 Wilga 35/80Tom

I have posted a poll asking users what screen resolution they use when on the internet. If you haven't viewed this poll yet, please go to the Hangar Chat forum here:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/859.htmlI realized after starting this poll that I didn't have all the resolutions out there being used and it doesn't account for users that use more than one resolution. If you fall into one of the above categories, please just answer with the resolution you use most often if you use several. And if your resolution isn't listed, just select the closest lower resolution that what you are using. Thanks for your participation.

I was pleasantly surprised this evening to see one of my favorite destinations, Walker Field Grand Junction, modelled by the prolific Wayne Roberts. The field presents a very nice appearance on approach and on the ground. A particularly enjoyable flight starts at Jeffco, making the Rwy 11 approach to GJT.

My latest airport of the Japanese airport series has been uploaded at AVSIM. This airport is the old Hiroshima airport located in the west side of the city catering to GA and commuter aircraft.A very nice airport to fly from. You can now enjoy a short hop between the old and the new airport (a 15 min flight).Right now it's my favourite of the three Japanese airports I made. Hope you'll enjoy it too.http://www.avsim.com/flylinks/IMG_0284.JPGCheers,

I tried to download a large tile of the Boston area today. Worked fine. Booted up fine in Fly2. I had a previous make-shift version of the airport & city installed at the time in 3-D models & planes. After the Terrascene was done, I opened Fly2 & the new USGS tiles were there, but now I wanted to delete the old buildings I made with the Fly2 scenery generator. However, NO MATTER WHAT I DO - I can't delete the buildings!!! They keep reappearing every time I load Fly2! I have tried EVERYTHING: I have deleted the folder D205161 in the Data folder (DEFINITELY the correct name), I have tried deleting the project in my terrascene folder, I have tried renaming …

Fly! folks - I'd like to hear your comments about this product, good and bad, and wonder if you'd please visit topic 9200, my poll post over at the FS2K2 general forum.I've had a couple of "duds" myself and I'm beginning to wonder if there is a quality control problem, in which case I'd like to be able to ask CH to pay attention to the matter.I am not "axe-grinding" at all - I'm very glad we have the CH Yoke - I just want to make sure CH are deivering the quality we deserve for a fairly expensive product. Thanks and RegardsPH

For good looking "life like" scenery, as well as panels. Between a real life pleasure flight over a portion of the "Rocky Mountains" the other day, and the current "panel wars" theme on the screenshot forum, I fired up FLYII again for some scenic flight. It really is amazing what this sim can produce with the right add-ons as well as what comes default. An example is the first pic, with 3rd party So-Cal scenery and the default Pilatus. When sim flying in this enviroment it does seem to become about as close to real as possible!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID47/8875.htmlL.Adamson

I don't remember what AFG models refers to. It is installed as one of the drop down menus in the FLY2! scenery editor. Every time I try to open these models when I am in the scenery editor, the program crashes with this error message:AFG MODELSUnable to open model afg_atc1.binFile:Model.CLine 246Aparently I am missing a model. First of all, does anyone know or remember what this AFG file refers to? I would like to try to reinstall the models with the zip file but I do not know what the zip is called. I searced the library & cannot find anything that seems to refer to AFG models.Second, anyone happen to know what the errer message means?I am eager to reinstall thi…

I have just uploaded approach updates for two airports in Greece: LGTS (Makedonia) and LGKC (Kithera). There are 2 ILS updates for LGTS. The ILS/DME Rwy 16 Localizer and DME have been repositioned and the brand new ILS/DME Rwy 10 approach has been added. Here are a couple shots on the new Rwy 10 approach: http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d64719e4fa50057.jpg http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d6471c65002212f.jpg The missing terminal NDB (KIT) at Kithera has been added, allowing the simulation of the only real world IFR approach for Kithera - the Kithera Locator Approach. This is an especially challenging approach, as there are no visual approach slope i…

Hi all,A bug in the AMP file resulted in a non-operational Mixture control in Brian Szuch's Rutan Long Ez. I've corrected this problem and the plane now works well. Actually, it's quite a fun plane to fly! The flare on landing is really weird in a canard--doesn't feel right at all. :-) Anyway, enjoy!Cheers, Tony

I've put together a paintkit that includes instructions and files necessary for producing a repaint of Giorgio's 737, version 2. I'm sure I've glossed over important steps that I will need to explain in more detail, so be kind when you post your question's to my obvious lapses.Of note on the kit: you will find a small section on the supplied tif file colored(coloured) yellow. This was done on purpose to alert you as to it's location on the tif and where on the engines this location has been rendered. Look on the included tif and you'll see it on the bottom of the starboard engine. Without this marking, you'd have a tough time locating the source of this texture. As fo…

Hello all, :-)This is my first ever Fly! II repaint so I would just like to know what you think. (I've done one in Fly! 2k before.)It's OK if you start noticing everything that's wrong etc... But don't yell at me please. ;-) Here it is... And, oh yeah... Please tell me if it's worth uploading, or what I need to do to make it "worthy".Edit: 737-500 from Giorgio Gnesda. Nice model, mate. :-)Ciao,Dave
