The FLY General Discussion Forum
The General Discussion forum for the TRI series of FLY Simulators.
| Richard Harvey Lake Tahoe September, 2002 | This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Almost done with the my first version 2 737-500 repaint. Just some rudder/aft cheat lines to adjust and may be some weathering and she'll be finished. I won't be able to spend much time on this tomorrow, family obligations and all, so hopefully I can post it Sunday afternoon. Here are some screenshots.Pete

Hi all,I've uploaded WindsAloft.DLL version 1.0 for you guys to play with. I've also included the source for it so that you can tweak it if get some sick and twisted masochistic yearning. :-) A note about the functions ran1() and gasdev(). These are numerical functions that permit me to calculate a normal gaussian distribution. I use this distribution to create a wind change pattern that favors the current direction but can change fully 180 degrees. I would suggest that you not fiddle with those methods since they are rather highly optimized. If you care to know about these functions you can find them in Press, Teukolsky, Vetterling, & Flannery's Numerical Recipes, Se…

hey everyone! well, this time i have two questions in one post...ready? 1. the new converter by Terry Yingling doesnt want to recongize any of the PIC data that it was made to convert. (this is a PMDG converter that converts PIC FMC files in to files that the PMDG FMC can use)....anyone run into this before?2. i cannot get my darn taxi and wing lights to stop flashing while i am taxiing.....see my pic below to see what i mean. i think that it might be a video card issue, but i just wanted to see what someone else thought that i might be able to get it to stop. i have a G-Force 2 32Mb card. the problem occurs when i turn the taxi/wing lights on...the light is way too stron…

Richard was talking about some other developer taking on the core of Fly! and using the six years hard work in bringing it to where its at.TRI have two choices. First to let the sim gather dust till its useless to anyone or second to sell it or "lease" it (ie take a commission on any future sales)I always felt Fly! could go forward a la X - PLANE with a small group developing it.I have no idea what the sale value of the core would be, but I am interested on what you would change or add to make a Fly!2 B rather than a Fly!3.A Fly! 2B would have to be different enough to warrant a re release under a new name.As a starter I could see a new scenery engine developed around dig…

I finally went up for another lesson in the air, 1st time in about 2 years! First time for me in a 172's left seat and I wasn't used to how heavy it is. It's been so long I felt like an idiot (oh yea! You HAVE to push the button on the mixture knob to push it in. NOW I remember! :-hah). It was bumpy and gusty up there today so I really had to fight the plane on my way down (not to mention the poor visibility. I got the visual to land at 4nm). And with a heavy plane like that, it was hard to keep her on approach with gust winds throwing me several curve balls. I'm a small guy so my left arm got a work out today. I think I'm more suited to fly in a 152.The landing was fine …

Anyone else having trouble getting INFOMETAR to work tonight?I keep getting an error message:"Can't find specified INFOMETAR file""Infometar did not find any potential metar reporting stations within the area of the specified route. You might want to try one or morechanges /additions to the ICAOs you have selected for the flight route"I get this message no matter what route I try to generate - including LAX to JFK! Sometimes I am told that the NOAA server might not be updating Metars at the present. Sometimes it says the server may be overloaded. Also, I can't get the FLY2 server to connect (AGAIN!)Anyone having these problems? Thanks,Chris Catalano

Can't seem to connect.Thanks,Chris Catalano

Since the multi-player function on flyII continues to be unavailable, is there another way to import a METAR file to use with fly2?Thanks,Chris Catalano

Dearest,This evening, after dinner, I've modified my B737-500 V1.0 to V2.0.I've understood you don't like the mirrored rudder side on this plane.really, when I maked it I didn't think about a lot of Pete liveries.Anyway you have the modified version of this aircraft:- Double side mapped rudder. (are you satisfied Pete !!)- new gear up stores, without doors this time!! (thank you Johnny)- Fixed tail size and rudder positionI hope you like this version and wait better for the next release.Happy flights and Happy repaints Pete!!!! :-) :-)HugsGiorgio [email protected]

I have noticed something in some of the aircraft that everyone has created. The new aircraft 737 md80 and such. I will not bother him because they are not finished. But some of the aircrafts view points are not right. I try this by looking out the side windows and lineing up with a line or something. In the 747 the cockpit is back by the wings. Is this a user fixable issue or does the aircraft designer have to fix it?
