Hi all,I nearly got to grips with the tutorial about the Grises50 exe. I have got a query thou and thought maybe someone in ere who used the program might be of assistance...What size must the contour map be of?Storm

Hello all,I urgently need to know how to obtain the NW coordinates. I'm attaching a top-down view of some scenery I'd like to elevate. I take it that the NW coordinate should be the point corresponding to the NW point in the top-down view map?I converted the image to grey-scale and raw data np there. But it seems the problem is the NW coordinate. Here's my .inf data[Destination] LOD = 9 DestDir = "C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesTerrain Tutorial" DestBaseFileName = "Sliema" UseSourceDimensions = 1 [source]Type = ElevS16LSBSourceDir = "C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesTerrain Tutorial"SourceFile = "IMAGE1A.dem"CellType = S16LSBNullCellValue = -9999 Lat = 35.921833Lon = 1…

Dick,How do I select the NW coordinate exactly for the .inf file? I've been playing around with the inf file but theres something wrong somewhere in these coordinates I suppose. For testing purposes, I'm utilising the generated DEM of the Grises tutorial example on another part of the World, rather than Santander - shouldn't be a problem right?Storm

I've been re-reading through the terrain SDK 2002 and I'm beginning to get a hand of things...Anyone kind enough to explain the following parameters in some humane manner as described in the FS2002 SDK for Mt. Rainier, Washington State area!?Lat = 46.99916666667Lon = -121.9466666667NumOfCellsPerLine = 457NumOfLines = 375CellXdimensionDeg = 0.0008333333333333CellYdimensionDeg = 0.0008333333333332CheersStorm

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this plea, but I figure if one of you guys can't answer this, then no-one can !Being a bit bored with the generally bland default scenery in FS2K Pro. I decided to download some Mesh Terrain scenery to see what it was like. I went for something small to start with, and downloaded Raimondo Taburet's "gibral.zip" file and installed it as a standalone scenery. Having followed the instructions to the letter, I was dismayed to find that it remained as the flat default scenery. I even tried installing it with a empty texture folder included; as I'd read in the instructions of another file that this would help FS identify sceneries that co…

Nothing to do with mesh this time :))I was wondering how I can convert the simulator flight video clips to something which can be played back in media player for someone who doesn't have FS2002 installed?Err, where are the video clips sotred? couldn't find them!Storm

Hi,What Datum does FS use for North America? How would you convert NAD83 BIL files to the Datum FS uses before running Resample.exe? Is there a program that does this? Thanks,Tim

Hi Steve, I've been told to check in here for some quality mesh discussion...I'm using Ground2k's re-mesh function to vary the terrain of new scenery I'm working on as of late...I had to change the Terrain max setting to 21 in FS2002.cfg and results are quite promising. However I have yet to understand whats the difference between the LOD9, 10 etc values. Which should I opt for? I mean I tried using all but haven't noted much difference.Another thing...Is there a standard rule how to place the points when using the re-mesh function? Is it better to place the points wide apart or stacked close together...Last but not least, is all this similar to digital sampling?? and how…

Thank you all for your input, answers, questions, suggestions, and writing and releasing of software tools.Over the last 4-5 weeks I've been reading and trying the different ways of producing Mesh scenery from USGS sites. Much time is spent in downloading the data, then a equal time working with that data.I have found that SRTM data leaves too many problems, with holes, spikes and such. I've used TIFF and BIL files from Seamless.usgs.gov. TIFF takes too long to d/l and doesn't seem to provide anything better then BIL data does. A 1/2 degree by 1/2 degree TIFF file is about the same size as a 1 degree by 1 degree BIL file. So I'll be using BIL files from now on.I've co…

Hey Everyone,Being a new flight student, and wanting to use my airport I train at in FS. Unfortunatley, MS has made the airport and its surroundings as flat as a tabletop. I'm not interested in the area around it, just the airport itself. The largest thing you will notice is at KBLM is at the start of 32, is a steep 80 foot hill. In MS, thats all flat. What tools will I need to use or have knowledge of in order to raise this one area. The airport isnt on a plateau, just the area before is on a hill, then the land just levels out... Is there any way to to this?Any help would be very appreciated :)Thanks in advance,Jason :-waveP.S. - If you want to see what I mean, click on…

I have tried the STRM Data but at even LOD=7 it is not realistic. I wanted to ask if anyone has used 7.5 Min DEM's and what is the best program to use them. In my state of West Virginia there are constant elevation changes but FS2K either looks like Steep clifts or at a lower LOD the true elevations are much reduced. Any thought/Richard;

I am having trouble finding this info..and correct me if I am using the terms incorrectly...What is the default USA mesh in FS2002? is it 90 meter? 30 meter?I know places like Ranier are much higher res, but I'm talking the default areas. How about the non-USA areas in FS2002...120 meter or more?

Hi,I'm diving back into the scenery game and I have a question that I wanted an answer to for a very long time now. In the default FS2K scenery, Calgary, Canada, has a river that flows through the city but it is sunken into the terrain with jagged and steep terrain rising from it. I downloaded a new terrain for all of Canada (SRTM90) and the problem is still there. How can I fix this? I want to be able to "raise" the river to meet the immediate surrounding terrain. I have attached a JPEG that show the depression I'm talking about and of the intended correction I want to make.Eventually, I would like to cahnge this "lake" to a river as it should be. Coastline maker, I assum…

I created some new LOD 12 mesh terrain, but the new terrain doesn't appear until I'm almost on top of it. The transition between default and the new mesh is too abrupt. Is there a way to make the new mesh appear when I'm further away from it(further than 4 or 5 miles say)?

Been looking all over for the answer to this question. I am torn between getting Eddie Denney's data or waitng for FS2004 hoping it would be an upgrade as far as Elevation Data?ThanksDanny

I went on a mesh hunt last night and finally decided to download Eddie Denny's mesh for Alaska. I have been flying up there a bit lately. While the mesh is for the most part spectacular, it seems in a many areas the terrain does not go well with the coast lines. What I mean here is that instead of a smooth transition down to water, the mountains end up just kind of cut off, leaving what looks to be too many cliffs all around. Its not everywhere, but it is in enough areas as to make it noticeable and unrealistic I guess. I even recently tried the add on mesh for the Seattle area and it suffers the same problem but to a much lesser extent. Am I doing something wrong or is i…

The 10 and 30 meter dems I am working with have lat. and long. lines that show up as not parallel with the x and y axes. This results in thin wedges of areas with no elevation data on all four corners of the map when viewed with the tmfviewer in the fs2002 SDK. Will these dems work with resample.exe to create "accurate"(as in accurate lat. and long.) bgl files? I ask this because it looks like the tmfviewer expects lat. and long. to be lined up with the x and y coordinate axes. After I resample a binary file and then view the resulting bgl on the tmfviewer, the lat. and long. read-outs are not accurate. Is there a utility I can download that will make the 30 meter dems…

First of all I wanted to publicly thank Matthew Styles for his wonderful program to convert SRTM data to BGL files it makes it so easy, and works great. Also wanted to Thank Steve Greenwood for some good advie at his web site at http://www.fs-traveler.com and many resources.Anyway because my home state is WEST VIRGINIA (Almost Heaven), when flying over it I wanted to see the beautiful rolling hills. I ran Matthew Styles's program on the 3arcsec data at LOD=9 and the New River Gorge looks more like a Canyon. Then I ran it at LOD=8 and it looks better, that at LOD=7, which I think is a good compromise.I am enclosing a JPEG comparing the 4 settings and they are:Top left(3ar…

Just uploaded v1.03 of SRTM to BGL to the libraryNow supports both 1 arc second and 3 arc second data. Also added command line options for following :-- LOD (Level of Detail)- Don't interpolate (ie use the SRTM data as is without fixing holes)- Number of interpolation passesfor futher information type HELP at the command lineegSRTM_1ARCSEC_TO_BGL HELPAlso in 1.03 I have changed the way that the interpolator works so that now it fills holes from the outside of the hole to the inside of the hole in series of "passes". So specifying 5 passes would fix holes that are radius of 5 (assuming those holes are perfectly round). Any data that is not interpolated is left as is.In the …

I'm a newbie to scenery design, so bear with me.I found the 10 meter USGS dem file that I wanted. I translated this dem file into a binary file that fs2002 can use with a util. called read_dem.exe. I then created an inf file per the instructions in the scenery SDK, and used the resample.exe util. to create a bgl file. I viewed this bgl file on the bgl viewer that comes with the sdk. It looked great--rich with detail. However, when I place this bgl file in the scenery sub-directory of the addon scenery folder per the instructions in the sdk, I can see no change in the resolution of the landscape I'm trying to modify when I fly around it. In this case the landscape is…
