Hi all,I have a runway bleeding through the mountains that I've created as mesh terrain. I've already tried to fix this by adding a LayerCall although as said to be not necessary anymore in FS2002. I reduced to Area 5 and got it fixed to not to be visible from far away anymore. But the issue itself isn't fixed at all this way. Especially the lights of the runway bleed through at night and that is very disturbing. Is there yet any way I could go?I recall we had this with Terrabuilder during FS2000 days but that was a totally different matter (no mesh terrain). Thanks in advance.Rainer

Hi folks, this is my first post in this forum.Think i have a problem and surely one of you "mesh-gurus" will be able to help me solving it.It seems to happen with all of mesh sceneries...looking down when cruising at FL150 or less terrain is full of stripes that cross each others and they're darker than normal terrain all around; they look like shadowed stripes depicting irregular squares. The above problem occurs with all of my mesh sceneries. You surely have already understood what i'm talking about, not so good to see ;-(What should i do? Can anyone please help? Thanks in advanceLuigi ;-)

A question for Arno mostly, since you usually have the right fix when I have a scenery problem. Working on an addition to an airport and did the terminal as a macro in NOVA. pretty detailed (44 parts,Looks good and all, but at certain angles (not distance) it vanishes, the shadow is still there but no terminal. Any suggestions on this ? Maybe some code I can add by hand.Regards, Michael

In Creating Terrain and Land Classification (FS2002SDK), "all source data is expected to use WGS84 projection". Is it necessary to use this projection to create terrain with digital elevation data ?

Does anyone know of any good, realistic terrain mesh or scenery (besides Bill Molony's downloads) for the Atlanta area? It bugs me that the default ground scenery or terrain mesh?? for the Atlanta area is nowhere near large enough. The urban and suburban areas need to reach out another 25-30 miles in all directions from downtown Atlanta to be realistic. It gets old flying around my extremely dense suburban home airport (KLZU Gwinnett-Briscoe Field) and seeing nothing but farm land. Please help me!!!Thanks everyone!!

I understand I may need to pay to get some imagery to base it off, but other then that I have no clue.Ohh btw my area is Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Im looking at southwest alberta, to south east British Columbia

Hello all,I am in the process of creating a new scratch built scenery for Atlanta Hartsfield Int'l Airport. However, I need some help:I wish to add some elevation changes in the immediate vicinity of the airport. (Not sloping runways, as much as I would love them) Rather, I need the terrain to "drop-off" near the approach ends of the runways, so as to allow for the approach lights to be mounted on structures as per real life. Additionally, I'd like to try and make the Delta TOC ramp lowered as compared to the rest of the airport as it is in real life. I believe that this will be possible, since I can edit the Z value of the vertices that make up the taxiway polygons (thus…

Hi all:I'm working on a LOD8 replacement terrain mesh for a large area, about 1 million square miles. The resulting bgl files will be about 120MB unzipped; however, I believe that the download will be worth it!My question is, is there a good rule of thumb to split up the entire mesh area into smaller tiles? I am not referring to the LOD quadrant system; I'll be carving the tiles to fit the LOD 8 quadrants. I wonder about the best pick of tile size somewhere between a single LOD 8 tile (about 40km x 40km) and the whole area (1000km x 1000km). Currently, I have 9 files, each about 10-20 MB in size. I noticed, however, that if I move quickly between tiles, it takes my aging …

I am looking for DEM files for Korea. Are there any available other than commercial ones? I would like better resolution than GTOPO30.

Or is it just me?It seems as if the sim will only display 10m mesh for a radius of about 6 miles (same as the hi-res textures?). I noted this while testing my 10m mesh for Hawaii (Diamond Head, Oahu) where the Diamond Head crater provides a good example because of the distinct shape and obvious shift in location. I have replicated the effect in the San Francisco area. The series of images below show the changes seen as I approach the crater. While the 10m mesh covers the entire island, only the default mesh version of the crater is rendered when at a distance of about 7 miles.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3df0d8c446afaa34.jpgMoving only a bit closer, we see the 10…

Firstly, as this is my first post as an Avsim member, let me just say a quick hello to everyone. I am a 48-year-old Brit who has been simming since FS5. I am somewhat belatedly learning a bit of programming and I am maybe half-way through writing something to facilitiate the production of mesh terrain from DEMs which I hope to be able to share with you in a couple of months or so.It is in this connection that I'm approaching the forum for some help. I need to learn a lot more than I already know about the format for elevation TMFs and BGLs (uncompressed), particularly the structure of the tables at the end of the file. I have a copy of a document dated 14 July 2001 writte…

Just wanted to introduce myself. Been playing FS2002 for a while now and have started to get into scenery design. I've been looking at the various mesh scenery and looking at making my own but it is hard getting hold of high LOD elevation data for my area. I'm in Cairns, Australia. I have downloaded the SATPAC mesh for Australia but some of the terrain around Cairns is just plain wrong. Anybody who has been to Cairns would know about the Pyramid. It is a 922m high mountain about 20km south of Cairns that from the north looks exactly like a giant pyramid. It is one of the major landmarks of Cairns. I have yet to see this accurately shown in MSFS and want to edit the mesh t…

As part of a scenery project I'm planning, I need to add elevation to an island that MS left far too flat - they got the outline more or less right, but it's a couple of hundred feet shorter than it should be!Now, it's small enough that I could just dump FSSC flatten areas at some of the peaks and leave it at that, but is there a basic tool (freeware) for rebuilding small areas of mesh?Ideally, something like the LandClass Assistant program, except for mesh tweaking?Brian.

Hi,I could'nt find any detailed free DEM data for my city . Some mapping companies has, but want too much money so I will take a map and do it by painting a BMP manually. First what is the best way to do this. Second I don't want to start from begining . Is there any way to take FS2K2 standart mesh data ,convert it to BMP and than increase the resolution and paint it by an image software.ThanksKenan

Hello All, Its been awhile since I have been here :) anyway, I am about to take the MESH plunge and I am a little confused as to which one to get. On another thread here I read that there seems to be two good sites to purchase MESH files. Theres one at : http://www.fsgenesis.comand one at http://www.fs-traveler.com/fs-traveler.html is there a big differance between the two or are they the same ? I want to get the one that offers the best looking res. in the USA, in particular the Western states. Also, how long will it take to get it ? can you tell I want it real bad, hehehe !!

Hi!I got hold of an *.dtm file.(5x5 grid) Any way to convert this filetype to a format that the fs2000 terrain sdk could read?, ore are there any other tools that can use this file directly in mesh creation ?Freddy

hi, allI have a strange problem ,i am working on an Island in brittany (france) I work with FsMesh(nice tool) and sdk's tools for textures ;well the texture replace the existing island with no problem, the knew one as you can suppose is more detailed and situated more precisely, this mean that that they are not totaly superposed.when i input the mesh in FS2002 it works fine but it seems to enclosed in original coastline. I mean all the mesh points outside the original shore are not visible. The effect is that the mesh seems to be sometimes cut with a knife.I have tried a lot of thing put water textures first to cover these shores with the fslandclass country pack , it le…

OK,I have been flying around for almost a year now. I have a few questions about MESH scenery as I am ready to purchase, if it will meet my needs. If you folks would be as so kind to help me, maybe I won't be in the dark. ;)I have add-on aircraft payware and freeware. I have add-on aiport scenery payware and freeware. I have come to one conclusion here: Payware is almost entirely always better. Is this the case with MESH? What is the difference, please be more specific than "quality". I fly mainly long-hauls. What is the extent that the MESH will help me with the user experience. For example: 1. Ground Level to 10K 2. 10,000 ft to FL200 …

The following I posted in SCENERY as well as here in MESH . . . . . .Okay, so I am getting desperate here :-(I have NEVER used a scenery program before. I am not an advanced programmer nor CAD designer, and I do not have experience in compouter-aided-design on these levels, so I guess I shall have to post here for a plea . . . . .Doth any soul out there have ANY familiarity with Pueblo, CO, and if so can you PLEASE write some sort of scenery for it? It would be SO wonderful and I would even be willing to pay for such a venture.I am a student pilot learning to fly in Pueblo. When I am not in my lessons in RL, I am at home on FS2002. I FINALLY found some taxi signs that mad…

Alright, I downloaded two 100 meter DEM files, converted them to 16bit lsb format that the resampler likes and pasted them together side by side with a little program I wrote to create 1 big 2401x1201 file that covers a good chunk of northern Illinois and Indiana. Created the bgl just like the docs say and WOW. I've got hills! Then I pasted together some (b&w) 2m satelite photos enough to cover central Tippecanoe County and I'm starting to colorize them. But even at 100m the hills get flattened out too much in certain areas. Yes the midwest is flat but not where the rivers wind through them.So I wrote a little program that oversamples small areas of the big file by …
