I have recenty loaded many of the US Mesh areas kindly provided by Rob Gainer. I have no other US Mesh loaded. Around Anchorage and Denver I have lots of spikes and straight ridges. Yesterday I tookoff from KSEA for KLAX. After one third of the journey I start to see lakes on spikes at 20,000' and airfields sitting on spikes at about the same altitude. The mesh is loaded into individual folders inside addon scenery. Thefolders are then indivdually activated through scenery library and then layered directly above default terrain.Does the position of the addon scenery folder matter in the scenery library?I cant believe that this is to do with the quality of the scenery bu…

Okay, before I get into designing from scratch (I'd eventually like to do 25VT, the airport a half-mile from my house), I'd like to figure out how to tweak some issues with some existing third-party scenery I've added. 1) I'm using Rob Gainer's excellent Eastern USA mesh to cover my home area of Vermont. It makes everything look much more authentic, but there are problems with some airports. Some airports end up on plateus. I know this is probably because airports have to be flat in FS2004, and because of altitude differences between FS2004's airport info and the terrain mesh. But is there any way I can tweak this to bring the airports down to the level of the ground arou…

Hi All, Although not new to flight Simming, I am new to playing around with the original program. I've recently found out what a great time can be had from "Addons". Before I go too mad, can anyone please tell me if adding "Mesh" areas to the default set up, will gobble up memory which I could better use for "graphics" and "flight" functions of the program. I was recently told that having too many aircraft loaded in the aircraft folder used memory unnecessarily and wondered if "Mesh" or other scenery might do the same. Thanks for listening and apologies if my question is not the usual type for this forum.Regards Blue.

Hi,does anybody know if there is a (complete) list of meshs (90m or better) available for FS9. I like to fly the 1934 London - Melbourne air race route with the DC3, but I couldn't find meshs for most of the countries to cross. So I'm thinking to make my own, but I don't want to invent the wheel twice ;-)Thanks, Tom.

I had a batch file someone sent me awhile back but I deleted by accident. I thought I had made a new one correctly but when I go to make the mesh resample just keeps spitting out numbers and never finishing the mesh. Iam sure it's something really simple that I over looked. I wondering if someone could post a sameple of a batch file they use or just point me to site that would have to look at :) Thanks in advance

Hi gurus, because I must wait for the French Polynesia SRTM data, I've started a little mesh training project. After fighting with all the new tools (MicroDEM, SDK, etc), finally I've got my first result (BGL) and it shows up in TMFViewer nearly perfectly - only the south end of the island is missing. But the mesh didn't show up in FS2004 ... :(I've tried all hints from this forum (fixed LOD in ini-file, changing FS settings, etc) but the scenery didn't show up. I can load and see it with LWMViewer, but not in FS.Is the misalignment between mesh and coastline my problem and why is the south end of the island missing (it is there in the source data)?ByeHolger (the rookie, n…

Well, 1st off, I'de like to say what a great resource this forum is. I'm sure what I'm going to ask is answered somewhere in the preceding 16 pages, but after a few days of reading, I'm stumped. I've built my 1st complete mesh scenery useing SRTM 3 sec. hgts and M. Styles' SRTMtoBGL setup. Chichi Jima in LODs 8-11 just to get a feel for the pros and cons of each. (This is in CFS2 by the way, if that matters). I had coastal shoreline issues and resolved them best I could with airport scenery bgl flattening. It only took 7 multi vertice flattens, but I have been told there is a fr hit to this avenue of coastal fixes. Now, here finally, is my question. From what I have gather…

Hi again all!Just wonder what I have done now,.. cant seem to backtrack any error in my mesh. here`s the case:1. Exported a file from Global Mapper, as USGS DEM, using UTM WGS84 ( and correct zone )2. Open in 3DEM, export as terrain matrix signed integer ( BIN. file)3. Used the data from the produced header file to calculate LOD cell upper left / lower right coordinates.3. Create an INF, using the NW point of my file as LAT and LON. 3 Putting in the rows and coloumns from the header file in NumofCellsPerLine=Coloumns, and NumofLines= rows. Used the LODCalc to get the cellX and CellyDIM.The file resamplse well, and i compress it, and create a BGL, BUT when i load it into …

Maybe I should be posting this in the other scenery forum, but my issues are with the mesh more than the river, per se, so...I would like to make a realistic Connecticut river valley from New Hampshire/Vermont all the way to the long island sound. I have FSG's 38m appalachian mesh. The river, as it is, switches back and forth between lake and line way too often north of hartford CT. Also, there are numerous deep gorges which don't exist in reality, and points were the river flows uphill. I've looked at several utilities, but none of them seem to do everything I need to do...Where would someone who has never done more outside the plane than an AFCAD or some FSE objects…

Hi!With LWMviewer I managed to decompile two BGL`s for a certain area. HL954060.bgl, and HP954060.bgl ( in FS2004SceneryEureScenery )Case is I have made a mesh (LOD 10, form 10 meter DEM data) for the island covered by 5 areas see image of area. ( dont have the numbers in my head, I am at work ).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/60166.jpgProblem is that the default HP954060.bgl and HL954060.bgl file cuts off my coast, and I get ugly cliffs. I know the SDK isnt available yet, so the approach to edit the LWM, VTP and coastlines, is to edit the HP*, and HL*. Files...Here is the question. How to edit ASM source files ?. I tried to eliminate the BeginData, and EndData rgd th…

Hi all,I have had a bit of success creating some LOD8 and 9 meshes for western Canada but I am having a bear of a time with the Manitoba data. Every time I try to create anything, either using srtm to bgl or even by hand, I wind up with very odd results. For example, I have the CDED 1:250,000 data and I mergerd 6 dems using Microdem latest build. I then converted this to a bsq and created an ini for resample. So far, so good. I notice Microdem said it was decim data so I set the scaleinmeters=.1 and I created a bgl that looks fairly representative of the data I fed it.I then tried the next 6 dems and this is where it got wierd. Same data source, programs and ini but a blan…

  15. Hello,I am taking the first steps with creating FS2002 mesh (yes I'm slow :-hah ) using FS Terrain, but am running into some snags. And so far haven't been able to find anything resembling documentation for this excellent tool...Here's the scenario:I am trying to make a LOD13 mesh for a small fictitious island, from a hand-painted grey-scale BMP (so, no worries about where to get Real World data :-) ).I succeeded already in doing this for FS2000 using older scenery methods with TerraBuilder; but mesh generation for FS2002 is (still) not supported in TB. (Or?) Hence the switch to FS Terrain. (I know about grises50, but haven't yet tried it).I do the following in FS Terra…

Hi Scott:the SRTM data were collected at a resolution high enough to provide 1-arcsec (30-m) coverage between S60 and N60 and the data set is complete (as far as I know). However, the powers that be have decided to downsample those data to 3-arcsec. Whether the general public will ever see the 1-arcsec data or at least the corrected 3-arcsec data is anyone's guess. As for Bora Bora, you might have seen thses but there's a neat satellite image here: http://www.spaceimaging.com/gallery/top1001/borabora.htmand some coarse maps and pretty pictures here: http://pro.corbis.com/search/searchFrame.asp (search for "Bora Bora").Don't know of any useful free topographic maps but will…

I have created a new harbour which works fine. (outlined in yellow)I have created a new island in the default MSFS inlet. (Island marked #1 at the top of the screenshot)I want to create an island INSIDE the newly created harbour (the island marked #2) but no matter what I try .. poly with shore, poly without shore, lwm poly, vtp poly .. doesnt matter. Everything I try brings out the underlying landclass (as evident in the screenshot.)I can create a poly with shore that shows a "hollow" island with no landfill. Is there a way to solve this problem.Any help appreciated.Ray

(Crossposted from http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=169123&page= )I just made a page that shows the effects of LOD and TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL rather clearly. I used 1/9" SDDS elevation data in the Seattle area to get maximum source resolution, and 3D analyzer to force FS9 to run in wireframe so that the actual polygons would be obvious. The results I came up with were that TMVL's above 21 didn't have any visible effect, and 21 only changed texturing at close range. 20 did significantly increase the polygon count over 19 and thus visible terrain resolution. Surprisingly, there's NO difference between LOD 10,11,or 12 meshes as far as elevation detail was…

Hello there everyone. I am new to the Mesh forum as I am primarily a sounds/FDE developer. Recently I have turned to mesh creation.I use 3-arc-second SRTM source data, and compile some fantastic bgl files. Naturally, I like to check things for "common sense" accuracy with the tmfviewer.exe included in the Microsoft SDK.To my untrained eye, the relief looks great, and an in-game test meets with my approval. However, 2 colors bother me in particular... please let me know if I am being paranoid or not:Red - I thought this means terrain below sea level. If so, is it okay to have a bit of this around low-lying salt marshes in the bays and lagoons near oceans? My gut says this …

Hello All,I am new to making meshes and I have uploaded a few of Alberta to the ACOF Scenery area. I received an email about a large trench across the whole province basically and wonder what I did to create it.The mesh was created using SRTM data at 3 arc seconds and I used the wonderful srtm2bgl program to assemble the bgl file. Perhaps I should have overlapped the mesh areas so I would not have a possible seam in the mesh?If I could, I would ask the File Library folks to pull the NW Alberta mesh so I could try and find the problem and not have people waste d/l time on a goof on my part! Thanks in advance, and I have enjoyed lurking here so much I thought that I would tr…

I thought I would go back to Ground2k's latest version and see if I can make a simple little bump in my terrain well away from an airport flatten. I figured a LOD8 100 meter bump would be visible :-) so I did one, then a cluster of four or five, and hit the bgl icon. A popup window flashed too quickly to read, and no bgl was to be found on all 80G of my hard drive.Has anyone actually created a remesh bgl with this program? It seemed to me an absurdly simple task to raise a single or a few LOD8 squares 100 meters. If someone HAS been successful, could I have the LAT/LONs you remeshed and I will try the same ones. Here are the only two files from my target folder........000…
