Hi all,Just curious if there has been any break throughs that I missed as I have been "away" for a while and last I knew the only way to remove a @#$% river flatten in a given area was to remove the river flatten from the whole planet...Ugh!I have a great mesh for my local area but the default river data is so bad! Thanks for any help.P.S.I guess I also should ask...any news on removing coast/lake flattens?

  3. Greetings! With the help of the kind gurus on this forum I had made that nice little FS2002 island, as a birthday gift to my flightsim buddy. Now he has moved it to FS9, and it looks flat like a pancake (including the formerly majestic Mt. Richard :-( ).I was hoping FS2002 mesh stuff would just work "as is" in FS9, too -- but apparently not.I did see already Dick's (rhumbaflappy's) thread here, about "New resample" (May 22, 2004).Just checking, before I head off energetically in the totally wrong direction: Do I understand correctly that I need to recompile the mesh for FS9, using the FS2004 SDK / resample.exe? And does this mean that all FS2002 mesh scenery won't work in FS…

  4. The topic heading pretty much says it all. Does anybody have any idea at all when the data for pacific islands will be released, French Polynesia in particular? Lots of those Pacific islands have gorgeous terrain, but they just look like generic lumps in FS. Thanks!-Scott

Not wanting to make humongous meshes, I have decided to split a Rocky Mountain Project up into individual states (Co and Wy in this instance). However, I have found when I create meshes seperately I get gaps between them as compared to no gaps when I compile the thing as a single bigger mesh using the same hgt files. Attached are some TMFViewer shots that show my problem. An explanation of why this happens and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.Paul Scott BarteltSingle mesh.http://home.wi.rr.com/pbartelt/combined.JPG2 seperate meshes with same data, note the gap between states.http://home.wi.rr.com/pbartelt/seperate.JPG

HiI have the following 2 problems:I have an Area of 2x4 custom ground texture (the usual 022020220202...bmp thingy)Problem 1) That obviously excludes the street that original lies under that and removes all the autogen. No problem as the street was palce wrong anyway so I wanted to redo that street in Ground2K (VTP....). Unfortunately the newly designed street will be excluded as well where it overlaps with the area of my custom ground textures.Problem 1) my custom ground textures extend in the water, so I want to remove them where they don't belong (in the water) and redo the coastline. I guess this alos can be done via Ground2KI'm a complete newbie to Ground2K , Is ther…

  7. Hi guys, Im here as i know a lot you here are using a variety of tools to mess with SRTM data, something similiar to what Im trying to do. :)What Im trying to do, is resample and project some SRTM data, so that i can then save it as a GreyScale, for processing thru another utility. So im after something that will allow me to AT LEAST resample SRTM data to 185m - 247m (6 - 8ArcSec), then ideally reproject in various conic's and output as grey scale... Total area Im working with is about 18 x 12 degrees (which of course will be smaller once finished, after reprojection).I went looking for BlackICE yesterday, and found the site (www.terrainmap.com) is down. Anyone else notic…

While playing with DrawPoly3, it dawned on me that while the vertical resolution of grids is good - accurate to 1/256 of a meter, the horizontal resolution is accurate to only a few meters. (Which is why steep cliffs look like blocks.)I am sure that this has been discussed somewhere, but I am not sure what terminology is used to describe these grids. Is there a math formula to describe the exact location of these horizontal data points? Is it a subdivision of a cell? Or can anyone point me to where this has already been discussed? Thanks,Phil

Hello All.I would like to know how to resample an SRTM to 50% of its size... IE, the output is a 6ArcSec SRTM Tile, sized at 600 x 600.THEN, once that is done, reload all the 600x600 tiles (of which i have a area of 19 wide by 12 high) and project in some form of Conic Projection...Anyone?

Does anyone know what the maximum mesh resolution FS2004 and FS2002 can display is?I know the max resolution was reduced in FS2004 but what is it at now, and what was the max allowed in FS2002?This discussion is very interesting:http://www.visualflight.co.uk/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1742It suggests that the max resolution is FS2002 was 19m, not 9.6m, and the max res supported in FS2004 is 38m. I've read that FS2004 supports 19m, but at other places, I've read that it only supports 38m :-hmmmAny scenery designers why know more about this?

Hi all,John Childs has completed another round of major updates to his Blackart utility: http://www.terrainmap.com/I haven't tried the new features but they include (partially based on our feedback and requests!)* A second, superior technique for patching with DTED0 and SRTM30 that yields greatly improved results.* Enabled BLACKART to handle negative elevations. This should keep all you Death Valley and Dead Sea interpolators happy.* Improved menu structure.* Grayscale feature works for SRTM files. (It now displays right-side up, too.)* Improved batch mode interpolation.* Improved the Laplacian algorithm considerably. ... and others.Particularly neat is the new stand-alon…

Hi everybody,I'm working on the scenery of my province (Alava): mesh, photoreal texture and some buildings. For the mesh, after some time surfing on the web and forums for the "best and easy" way to do it, I chose the SRTM data from NASA and STRM_to_BGL software (thanks to its author); also thanks to Julio Estefania and the SMG group by their support. The results it's OK (not perfect because of the SRTM 3" data).I have a problem with two marshes located in the region: in the default FS2002 scenery, they are flattened areas, so even if I put my scenery on a higher layer on scenery.cfg file, I get that areas with sharp cliffs in the border between my mesh and the flatten ar…

Hello,I am going to release a freeware utility for terrain mesh creation/editing. My application is a mini GIS tool and it acts as a RESAMPLE.EXE front-end as well. I would like to distribute RESAMPLE.EXE along my application, for user convenience.Unfortunately, there is a problem in FS2004 terrain SDK EULA that prevents developers (at least those that respect EULAs) from distributing RESAMPLE.EXE along their applications. In the End-user License Agreement (EULA.RTF file) that is included along Terrain SDK, the "Grant of License" item - "Redistributable Code" paragraph states:"You may reproduce and distribute portions of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT designated as Redistributable C…

Hi all.The FS2004 terrain SDK is available, and contains the new resample.exeThe FS9 resample compiles directly to BGL, although a TMF output is available ( possibly because it then is a faster compile... for the purpose of generating photoreal images ).The mesh BGL is not compatible with FS2000 or CFS2... I don't yet know about FS2002... and I don't know if there is any advantage to using the new resample for FS9 at all ( concerning mesh ). We can't merge tmf files, so everything must be done from within the INF file.TMFViewer has been updated to allow some options with VTP line viewing, and viewing points for both VTP and LWM. I don't know if there is any change for mes…

Last fall I began working on a utility to smooth terrain near airports to alleviate the problem of terracing that often happens with add-on mesh. Holger gave me a good idea back then on how to approach this problem, and my results weren't very good. After a hiatus of a few months, and now that I've delved into the world of BlackArt, I think that this approach is viable. Here are a couple of screenshots that illustrate this "airport plateau" problem, or "terracing":http://www.jktaylor.com/flightsim/SVCS1a.jpghttp://www.jktaylor.com/flightsim/SVCS2a.jpgThe approach to fixing this is to create two polygons. The inner polygon is the shape of the airport footprint and filled…

Pardon My Ignorance, I'm new to this. :+Is there any way to edit the terrain in my FS2002? I use VFR Photographic Scenery and have discovered that my local terrain is just crazy! You could water ski on the local reservoirs without a boat!I realise this probably isnt that easy, but I am prepared to learn. If someone could point me in the direction of a "how to" or tutorial of some sort, I'd be very grateful.

Hi all.I'm trying to finalize a project (mesh for Cirenaica and Marmarica) I was working on; I'm doing it with SRTM_to_BGL as Dos programs seem not to function properly (no possibility to insert any command) on my system. What I've discovered is that a tile of SRTM data contains a string of elevations, evenly spaced across a distance of about 100 Kms, each about 2500 meters high, that are not considered by Blackart as null-data areas (in fact they are not), and thus can not be safely interpolated.I do not know any way to cancel this data without spoiling the whole tile, or a big area of it: someone once wrote of the ability to "paint" wanted elevations in a paint program, …

Is there any way to get AI traffic to follow the terrain?I have set up an AI departure toward an uphill slope. When the AI aircraft reaches the uphill slope, it plows straight forward through the hill and out the other side.Is there a flag that can be set to make AI aircraft "respect" the terrain - just like non-AI aircraft. Or is this just a feature of the AI logic. Any AI aircraft operating out of those non-flattened backwoods strips?I assume that the answer to all of this is no - but I thought I'd ask anyways. Thanks,Phil

I am very close to success with my first terrain meshes in fs9. Problem is, the 10meter dems I am using have a centimeter elevation resolution. I have had no luck changing my .inf file for this. The SDK says that resample.exe expects 1meter elevation points, and that somehow FractionBits and BaseValue may be used to change this, but it has not worked for me!Does anyone know how to make these centimeter elevation dems work? Or a program to convert to meter resolution. Microdem won't seem to do it.Thanks much,Chris Goodman

  25. Hi all:let me start by pointing out that the following comments are in no way intended to criticize any of the authors of the tested freeware tools. As a user rather than a producer of FS utilities I am very grateful to anyone writing and sharing software. My interest is in finding a suitable combination of tools for generating the best possible mesh from the available source data.SRTM is the main source of free elevation data for areas outside of North America, and Matthew's SRTM2BGL probably the most often used tool for transforming the raw data into FS format, probably followed by MicroDEM. The big issue, of course, are the small and large void areas (holes) in the sou…
