Ok, I know this is a slippery slope that starts with one small step. I want to create a small island (fictitious) with a couple of small hills on it. I created an appropriate simulation of the terrain in the Terragen package. I exported the file as a black and white raster image, 257 x 257 pixels. I then took it into Photoshop and did some tweaking and once again saved it as a non interleaved raw format raster file. After that I used GRISES50 to generate a .dem At least a file was created. I then used the Terrain SDK tools to create a bgl. Put the file in an addon folder in the scenery sub folder. Added it in FS9 settings. Restarted FS9 and saw the adding scene…

Hello all, Im working on mesh for an airport area, and ive got the HGT file. I converted via BSQ to bmp, but when i view the bmp its not a black and green mesh map like the help file of Sbuilder said, rather, about 75% of the map was blue, and the rest scattered black, blue, and yellow. It doesnt really look like the area im working on :(. The map i took is the right area. I tried to tweak the BSQ with the Sbuilder options, but that didnt really help much, only removed some of the yellow. I need the mesh map for High-resolution photo scenery. I first wanted to make VTP scenery, but when i put the textures (DXT3) in the scenery/world/texture folder and the BGL in my addon …

Hey all, I've been working on a GIS class project and of course it involves flight simulator. Downloaded a bunch of USGS 1/3 arc-second data and it came in 6 separate files. Was able to create 19 m/p mesh using these files that came out really great but I have 6 separate .bgl files to show for it. My final goal is to create just a single distributable .bgl of that mesh.I have a student version of ArcGIS and was able to combine all the .bil files together into a single raster dataset set to WGS84 but my output format seems to be a .tif file. I'm not sure that resample.exe will accept that. Is there a way to put it back into a .bil file or is that unnecessary?Art

Hi William, are you out there? Thank's for your wonderfull scenery! As I live and work at KHYA,I fly with your scenery often, but it is hard on frame rates. My question to you or any scenery designers out there, Is there a way to reduce the texture sizes down? I have win-xp,and attempted using the image reducer supplied with outlook mail to reduce the textures and reinsert back into the texture folder to no avail. Is there a corresponding text entry that has to be made somewhere? Thank's in advance for any help!

Greetings, all!I've been enjoying FS9 for a couple of years now and I have decided that I want to rectify some problems that annoy me.A few areas that I really enjoy flying in are dominated by spikes. I am currently trying to locate the tutorials/apps I will need to fix them. In the meantime, if anyone could give me a nudge in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Apologies if this is the wrong forum. Thanks for any help you can offer!jt

Hello all... Bit of a newbie to these forums but I have done a little mesh creation already. However, every time I have done it, I have to manually download each section of aerial photograph separately and paste it all together which can get very tedious. Is there any way to download a huge chunk of it (specifically from the site below) and use it? How do companies like MegaScenery make such large mesh areas? Do they just have people working for hours on end pasting images together or what?http://ims.jocogov.org/scripts/esrimap.dll...&advmenu=advfeaThanks in advance,Peter Allenhttp://www.allensrule.com/flightsig1.jpg

I posted this in the general scenery section, but I'm posting it in here as well because it's possible this is a mesh question. I'm hoping there's a way to do this without getting into mesh editing but it's somewhat related anyway, under the general subject of Making The Ground Bumpier. Here is the problem: I have to create a peculiar little terrain feature, which I can best describe as a small low hill that has been carved away on three sides (apparently by human efforts) so that now it's partly surrounded by sheer bluffs. You could picture it as looking like a great big ramp, I guess. The whole thing is not very big - I'd say roughly three city blocks by two - and ab…

Hello everyone, hypothetical question... is there any use for crude (i mean non patched, non interpolated) SRTM version 2 conversion to BGL for the community? recently just for myself i've started converting new version of SRTM into BGL with the goal to have complete set of data in MSFS... for most of the time i'm rather happy with the results (currently have all Africa subset in MSFS)... for sure there are flaws around places, but most of the time it's more entertaining to have this data in MSFS...so, what you think - is it worth uploading this huge amount of data (Africa comes to almost 3GB in ~300 meg chunks) to library or not?Max.

Hello Guys,I was wondering if anybody knows the FS9 Mesh BGL file format. I would appreciate if somebody could help me out. My email is [email protected]: I finally looked at the FS2004 Terrain SDK. I see that the BLG file format is explained, but I am not interested in textures, just the actual mesh data(altitude). Unfortunately that is not documented.Thank you very much in advance.Sincerely,Tiberiu

First, is anyone else having trouble downloading from the seamless server? For the past couple days I've been getting an error page with no error details, no matter what options I've used. Also, after many trials with resample I was only getting a few numbers output on the screen and no BGL. I assume my file format was wrong. I was finally able to get a BGL output of 480K from a 10MB BIL file. That seems like quite a jump in data amounts. Is this normal? I loaded the BGL up in tmfviewer and, although I only get a green square on the screen, it appears that its in the right location and the mousover values also appear correct. Thanks for any help.Skip Talbot

This message is for Holger or anyone who might be able to shed some light on the subject. Hello Holger ! I feel like I've known you for years since I'm constantly looking for your add-ons. They're really great. I do have a couple of questions though. I have installed 38 m mesh for the U.S. by Justin Tyme. He did a wonderfull job!. I recently looked at your 76 m mesh for B.C. and noticed that in the read me you state that there are some issues with it and than list those issues. I'm wondering though, if you have any 38 m mesh available. The second question I have is, Can I install 19 m mesh add-ons such as Yosmite, or us_wa_nc.zip and other great looking products you have…

Is there a way to extract a BMP from a mesh BGL?Dick Boley @KLBE

I guess Luis Sa could best answer this one.I have had great success using the USGS finished seamless downloads to create mesh scenery with Sbuilder. The Sbuilder BSQ to Bitmap tool produces an altitude bitmap that is an RGB with the green value appearing to represent the altitude, but the value changes in "bands" from 0 to 255 as altitude increases up the side of a mountain. I.e. a smaller G value in an adjacent band can still be higher altitude than a larger value in an adjacent band. My question is. Can you use an image editor (e.g PSP) to adjust the bitmap to modify the altitude? If so, what are the "rules" governing the format of the bitmap and what colours repr…

I have started messing around with creating scenery.I read all the tutorials, and started downloading srtm data.It would seem that the new data is not in hgt format, and cannot be loaded into fsdem due to the fact that they are not hgt files.is there someway to convert the new format to hgt?

I tried that a DOS box appeared but nothing happened, what am I doing wrong.
