Hello all, some time ago I made an island for FS2002, and one of the many issues (finally solved) was having correct terrain and coastlines. As it turned out, the respective FS2002 hyp*.bgl file flattened the island mesh. After just removing the hyp*.bgl file, terrain was fine, but the coastlines were now reflecting the cell squares, not the real beach. The solution, arrived at with the incessant help of the kind people here (thanks Dick, Los Dos Luises, and Holger!), was to hack the hyp*.bgl file, to introduce "clinging water".(see the [a href=http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=123&topic_id=18304&mesg_id=18304&page=&topic_page=3]old …

Hi guys, I have a question:What is exactly the definition of good quality mesh?I was the one who asked about mesh terrain for South America, I know now that there IS terrain for South America, some of it payware some pieces freeware.I downloaded FSDEM and Slarti, so far I have done terrain for Argentina and some of brazil from S50* to S38*, all I do is use FSDEM and load the tiles, I have done up to 17 Tiles horizontal (corresponding to 1 grade) correct the voids on the terrain, and export the BGL. (I am using LOD 9 and STRM Data)Even though I have not gone up and check this mesh ( will do that tomorrow) I see From the Airport I am stationed now that the improvement is gr…

In FSDEM, when I load a raster image in 16-bit signed integer format, the elevation values grow huge. The image looks OK in terms of relative differences but the elevation shown for the mouse cursor is totally wrong. I now the elevation raster/grid do not exceed 200 m, but somehow during the import FSDEM changes the values into thousands of metres (up to 30000 m!!). Somebody know the problem?

Dear mesh gurus,I am flying round the world, and I discovered that with a few tools, I could use the SRTM data, and improve considerably the landscapes of FS. The legs I fly are 200-400 NM long, and the processing of SRTM data for these distances is not too much time-consuming. I use FSDEM 1.1 (thanks, Emerson) along my planned flight path, and I easily build a continuous mesh without too many problems which are for the most part visually acceptable (like water surfaces a little bit too low with respect to surrounding terrain). But yesterday I stumbled on the problem depicted in the attached image : the runway is 2000 ft higher than adjacent terrain ! This airport is loc…

I have been trying to learn Ground2k4 to create scenery for New Providence in the Bahamas. As you can see in the attachment, the default scenery is still showing through and I've got some odd terrain blocks showing up towards the left side of the image. You should be able to see my new coastlines if you look "inside" the default scenery's coastline.I put "exclude" blocks all over my scenery and even added extra as far as Ground2k4's grid allows.I put all the files generated by Ground2k4 in a folder in my Add on scenery folder i.e."Add on SceneryNew ProvidenceScenery*.bgl"I also copied the water class & Land class files in there too. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, Long ago (In FS2002) I learned how to process STRM Data and organize a little mesh project for an area around SKBO.MS depicts the airport on the right elevation, but the rest of the city is sunken almost 300 below this real counterpart level.Unfortunately MS also draw some non existing lakes in the vicinity of the airport. When doing the Mesh modification, the terrain got its right shape, but the lakes stayed on its original elevation creating some big holes in the new formed ground. How can this be resolved? Is there any local fix to this flaw? This is stoping me from continuig with my project of modifying that piece of scenery. Thanks

Hi Emerson !Thanks for your nice little program. I wanted to report you a couple of bugs I discovered when using FSDEM.I am building a LOD9 mesh, following a round-the-world flight, using SRTM data. For my own convenience, I wanted to make bgl files corresponding to adjacent tiles of 5

I was taking a look at the Landsat data site http://glcfapp.umiacs.umd.edu:8080/esdi/index.jsp (thanks to Holger for the hint), when I found this info that might be interesting for mesh designers:"Q: When will the "Finished" SRTM datasets be available?A: JPL anticipates release of their "Finished" edition of SRTM ostensibly in Sept. 2004.The GLCF will process that data and put the revised GLCF SRTM online within two weeks."http://glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/data/srtm/guide.shtmlAnother quote:"JPL and the USGS plan to complete reprocessing the source collection and make the "Finished" data available in September 2004."http://glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/data/srtm/So, are you ready to down…

I want to make some mesh scenery for some south pacific islands, particularly the Cook islands and French Polynesia. It is my understanding that the SRTM data for these areas was just released to the public, but I'm having some trouble finding it. I went here: ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/ and found the folder for the islands and downloaded one or two folders, but the data is in a format I've never heard of before (.hgt). Someone please tell me how I can use this data!Thanks,-Scott

FSDEM 1.0 has been uploaded to AVSIM library.Search for the file "fsdem_1_0.zip".I have been using this program since last year, to build terrain meshes for South America and Africa, using SRTM as source data.A brief description of the program:FSDEM is a graphical tool designed to help on the editing and correction of NASA SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) terrain elevation meshes, and to create terrain mesh scenery to be used in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002/2004. FSDEM can read/write generic raster files as well. The program has an integrated help (context help).I hope there are no bugs in the program, but if you find one, I will be grateful if you report it to m…

Mr. Gainer over the last couple of months has contributed tremendously to the collections of mesh scenery available to the community. But, his contribution seems to have come at a high price. I refer to his slander of Justin, Dick, Holger and others. AVSIM will not support, implicitly or directly, someone who takes liberty with the "facts", and distorts them, knowingly or otherwise, toward their own end. In my personal opinion, Mr. Gainer seens to have a problem. I am not sure what it is. Paranoia, whatever. To call into question the integrity (and even the very existance) of Justin and others without foundation is unacceptable to us. Therefore, I have directed the librar…

Is this the right place to put a request for scenery in? I'd like to start learning basic scenery design, but after reading a few threads on the forum and downloading a couple of programs I realize I'm way, way out of my depth.I would really like to find a good scenery for Charleston, South Carolina and the surrounding metro area (Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, Goose Creek, Summerville, Isle of Palms and Sullivans Island, etc.). The default FS9 scenery is terrible, and while USA Roads from Flight1 helps it a little bit it still really looks nothing like where I live. So, I figured I'd try to do something with it, but I don't even know where to start. What programs do…

Gooday,Just found that the SRTM data for Australia became available today at ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/Australia/ .Although our continent is quite flat, it's still nice to have a good representation of those areas that are not so flat. Anyone know what resolution the data is in FS2004 ? It looks a lot better already as in previous versions.Cheers,Siggy

Hi all,Does anyone know any free terrain file sources of Hong Kong? My friend developed an excellent airport scenery for it. But lack of good terrian file to make it more realistic. Therefore, I am interested to learn how to convert accurate terrain file into FS9.In fact, what kind of terrain file format is the BEST suitable for converting to FS9? I mean the most accurate.Best regards,Alkit

Hi all,I have been flying around my local airport and I have noticed some big errors in the mesh. By errors, I mean that there are big ditches at the side of the runway etc...Would someone please be able to tell me which tools I will need and what files I need to create so that I can make these changes? I have never done mesh scenery for msfs, which is about the only thing I haven't done so far so any help would be much appreciated.Kind regards
