Hi everyone,I posted this in the Scenery Design Forum, but so far no response: Okay, I've installed Lennart's Norway ground textures by creating a separate folder called 'NorthEurope' containing the FS9 defaults + Lennart's new seasonal textures. This is placed in the SceneryWorld folder ready to be renamed to 'texture' as and when appropriate.I went for a flight at LOD9 (76m) and saw what I am assuming to be redesigned shorelines around existing shores, but no textures filling in between the old and the new:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101442.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101443.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/101444.jpgI have confirmed that this prob…

Hi,I have R. Taburet's mesh and landclass files. My computer has two HDs, drive C: and D: respectively. My main FS folder sits on D:, but with all the AI planes and add-on sceneries etc it's gotten pretty full. So I wondered whether I can move the mesh folders to drive C: (of course changing the scenery directory accordingly). Does that hamper performance? Will the mesh show up correctly?Cheers

The FS9 Patch indicates that it now allows for higher resolution terrain. What is the highest resolution you can get and what settings do you use to get that?In the game settings, I have set the:terrain mesh complexity = 100 (the max)terrain texture size = high (is that the most detail?)In fs9.cfg, I have set:TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21I have checked out both the regular scenery and scenery compiled with a LOD=13. In both cases, the results seem worse, not better.Any thoughts? Thanks,Phil

Hi Guys!I know that I am not the only one wanting to know the answer for a question: is there anywhere an utility that is / would be called BGL2HGT?The problem is simple: I would like to convert a mesh BGL to HGT (SRTM) file. Why? Because there is a lot of fine geospatial utilities who allow for example to visualise (in 3D), what sits inside HGT files. There is no such tool (as far as I know) to do it with MS BGL's (not counting FS here :))).And no no no no no - it is not about copyright violation, just would like to visually check for errors in my created meshes using above 3D tools, which would be a whole lot faster and easier then flying and spotting anomalies in FS...…

Hey all!I'm rather new in the mesh forum....I've seen nevertheless the importance of mesh files in flight simulator, but I'm somewhat confused with various specs of mesh files: what are the main specs that I should take care of when looking for good mesh files?I've visited the Simviation site and found some mesh files for almost the whole world on http://www.simviation.com/fsdterrainsrtm.htm ...I tried the one that covers Belgium and found no inconveniences nor errors...My question is now: why should I go elswhere and search for mesh if here the files for almost the whole "flown" territory are available? Or is the quality of these files not the best?GreetzJive1

  8. I have a Mesh bgl file that I want to extract the altitude info from for known latitude/longitude coordinates.I am writing a program to color black and white images, I currently choose the best color to color a greyscale pixel by using its luminance and local texture (neighbourhood pixel statistics), what I want to experiment with is a further refining by limiting colors based on altitude, the color image that the program learns from is georeferenced so when I sample the color image I want to create an altitude parameter to aid the color selection process. Can anybody help me, I am coding in VB.NetDavid

I posted this originally in the main forum where it got a zero response so will try again here I am trying to track down a suspected "bad" bgl in my scenery library that is giving rise to an area of elevated Lakes and airfields near to the Adirondack regional airport (KSLK). I believe this may be a legacy of some addon USA mesh installed a good while ago and subsequently deleted - this mesh made by Rob Gainer, appeared in various places and had faults giving rise to odd effects often thousands of miles away. When I installed this mesh I just placed everything in the Scenery/World /Scenery folder - not the way I would do it nowadays- I now keep all addons seperate in ca…

FSDem provides a way to import Mesh scenery that greatly improves the elevation quality. When I try to use Ground2K v4 to change the texture and Landclass, I seem to lose the Mesh. Is there a way to have both, and to also have autogen working? The scenery I am presently working on is the default one used for the beginners manual (Monaco). What happens is that even trying to exclude all the water and land layers, there still seems to remain a default coast line that abruptly stops the mesh scenery to flow to sea level, causing steep cliffs.Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Pardon my ignorance, but could someone tell me what happens if I load 2 different terrain mesh(es?) such as FS Terrain over RealScene for instance or any other combination? Does the latest install overwrite the mesh from the previous install or can you choose which one takes priority? Thanks

Hi all, im new at the mesh design, managed to create something up with FSDEM. But when i look at the meshes i created with FSDEM in tmwviewer (see image) there is this area between every mesh block, anyone knows how to get rid of it? And another question, sometimes when trying to export the *.bgl files from FSDEM via resample, i got like 1kB files? Correct size would be something like ~50MB. Im trying to do an area of 5*10 degrees, works fine mostly.Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance, Hyppe.

HI AllI am an avid simmer but with limited knowledge around the nadling of scenery files. My problem is this. Looking in the list of scenery files from within FS9 I seem to have duplicate entries of evetything. When I try and delete one copy of some of them they just show up again the next time I load the program, With duplicates I have about 110 entries in this list. Some are commercial and some are freewareThe only minor clue I can give here is I had had a Megascernry Demo installed and then uninstalled it. Now every time I boot up I also get two requesters saying the progbram cannot find a megasceney file as defined in a .cfg fileSystem is pretty current - 2.4G Intel B…

Hi All, Please excuse if this seems to be a ridiculous question - I'm not up to much with computers - (Still learning my files from my folders if you like :-) I'm looking for add-on mesh to cover the Yukon, I've tried British Columbia and that made a great improvement to my VFR flights. I searched the files and can only seem to come up with FS2000 mesh for this area. Question: Can anyone point me to mesh I could use in FS9/2004 or are mesh files the same in all versions of Flight Simulator.Regards Blue

Greetings!Hey, it seems Avsim has done the right thing again (they usually do), and given Holger an award ("Best Freeware Scenery").Congratulations! A well-deserved recognition. It's a pity they don't also have a category "Most Patient Support Of Newbies", I could supply them with a few names from this forum, and those would include Holger, too. :-)Keep the good work up, guys!Cheers,Martin

Have been reading with interest on how well FSDEM works for creating scenery mesh files. However, that has not been my case.I downloaded N47W123.hgt (the 1 arcsecond) and chose the load single HGT. After it unzips and loads the file and I click the make BGL file it informs me it has voids, since this area is coastal, there are numerous areas that change due to the tides. So I tried both ways and I also choose Lod 10 level: (1)ignoring the voids and making a 39KB bgl file; (2) Not choosing or selecting any specific area but making a file that interpolated the entire block (1degree by 1degree) making a 1KB bgl file. So obviously I am not doing something right. When it …

nOOb here. I've got some SRTM 90m .hst from the web and trying to follow the instructions from the SDK to create a mesh.I open the .hst using Microdem, I get this.http://www.itsnotpersonal.com/fly/images/terrain.jpgI then use Microdem and save this as a 16-bit BSQ. I then run this BSQ into resample.exe, and I view the .bgl with TMFViewer, I get this.http://www.itsnotpersonal.com/fly/images/terrain2.jpgAnyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong? TIA :)

  19. Hi !I wonder if it is possible to add a photo realistic texture to mesh.I'm working on a more realistic scenery for Nuuk, Greenland (BGGH) - you can look at it in http://www.kalak-flightsim.com I have made a better coastline with Ground2K.And with Architect 2000 I work on a photo realistic texture over this new ground. But is I use my other bgl file (with mesh), then the photo realistic texture only shows in areas where the hight is 1m.Anyone knows how to make the photo realistic texture to be used like other ground textures in Ground2K ?My other problem is the very strange objects in the airport (standard from MS).Those I would very much remove and insert my own objects. …

Hi everyone,I am trying to apply a few aerial photos onto the mesh terrain. I've gone through the Fs20004 mesh terrain sdk and I've also gone through some topics mentioned here in the forum. However there are still some areas that I can't understand what's happening. As such i did manage to map a small sample onto the terrain but the final resolution was horrible once displayed in the sim. The resolution of the photos I have are actually at 25cm/pixel which is quite high as a resolution I think. As such I tend to decrease it to 75cm/pixel or 1m/pixel. Now let's say you have an aerial image of 1024 x 1024 pixels at a resolution of 1m/pixel how would you go about it? 1. Fir…

Hello again!More news from the Isle of Plight :-)Here's a report about my new(?) invention for FS9 scenery: Waterbergs!(Obviously, the summer variant of icebergs :-)) I'm reporting this partly because I still need to solve this issue, and partly because the info might perhaps be useful to other bglc users.I had made a mountaineous island for FS2002 (see an [a href=http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=123&topic_id=18304&mesg_id=18304&page=&topic_page=1]older[/a] and a [a href=http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=124&topic_id=2122&mesg_id=2122&page=]newer[/a] thread), and was trying to transfer that …

Hi all,I downloaded Slartibarstfast from the link provided elsewhere in this forum earlier this week and have been using it to create a mesh of a small part of Scotland.Creating a mesh from 2 SRTM files was pretty straightforward but when I have tried to add a coastline the program does not create the necessary .bgl files. If I have read the manual correctly, when I have told Slart to create a coastline it will create two file with names such as VV_Arran_vtp.bgl and LL_Arran_lwm.bgl. The files that are created from my .inf file have a .bgs extension instead. I also get a "too many perameters message in the prompt box when I have run the .bat file. Any ideas what I am doin…
