Hi all,1. It doesn't load standard SRTM3 files. It claims that the file is not SRTM. Other programs do display and manipulate it correctly (including SRTM2BGL).2. I can use only the batch processing, but then I cannot "view" or "save" the "invisible" result. I can hack my way around this by renaming the .hgx (temporary?) file it generates - actually a standard SRTM file - and view it with another viewer...What am I doing wrong? Thanks,Alex

Hi,The following is a link for a post in the scenery design forum:it refers tohttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=123&topic_id=19688&mesg_id=19688&page=SBuilder is a tool aimed at photo/LWM/VTP scenery but I added an option to create "mesh tiles" by clicking with the mouse on an altitude map. It could be useful to readers of this forum.Regards, Luis

Hello ppl,I've taken up mesh again after sometime and started off by converting an experimental 1024x1024 pixel home-made test image containing 256 grey-levels (0-255) as horzintal blinds and a 140-grey level circular area towards the top of the image.I converted to DEM using grises50.Everything ok - problems start arising as soon as I thread on the .inf file! Here is an example: LOD = auto DestDir = "..." DestBaseFileName = "Test" UseSourceDimensions = 1 ; These are the bounds of my mesh ;NorthLat = 035.903320312 ;SouthLat = 035.859375000 ;EastLon = 014.531250000 ;WestLon = 014.472656250 [source]Type = ElevS16LSBSourceDir = "..."SourceFile = "HBlinds.dem"CellTyp…

Hi again,I have encountered a conflict between the SRTM mesh I'm working on and the "mesh" modifications made by a landclass author. These modifications appear on the SRTM mesh as spikes and weird landscape features which are impossible to remove - I even tried to relocate the SRTM mesh on a higher layer but to no avail. Basically, these modifications makes lief "unbearable" in certain locations .Question 1: How can I fix this conflict? Can I do it WITHOUT any tool?Question 2: If the answer to above is "no", what is/are the tools I should use? I have no clue in Landclass design or structure. Thanks again for any suggestions.Best,Al

Hi all:Anyone working with SRTM2BGL and SRTM data?just noticed on John Childs' website - http://www.terrainmap.com/ - hat he has (once again) updated Blackart (now v3.65). This time there are two important features for FS mesh designers: (1) he has fixed the .BSQ writer, which previosuly resulted in a horizontally flipped mesh; and (2) he has added a batch processing option, so that users can run the time-consuming interpolation of several files at once (e.g., over night). Thanks to John!Anyone unfamiliar with what Blackart can do, check out this thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=1459&page=2Also, I noticed a reference to a "SRTM Void Killer" uti…

  6. I just bought Georender 6 and found it's not compatible with any addon mesh because it's designed for use with the default mesh only. My favorite mesh for WA is the FS-Traveler 10m mesh. I also tried several free 38m meshes. Is it possible to exclude the parts of the addon mesh that covers the two Georender areas, so that these use the default mesh, while keeping the rest of the addon mesh intact? How would I go about doing that?

Hi all.I'm working as a beginner on a mesh project for Cirenaica and Marmarica in North Africa, using the recently issued SRTM hgts. The software I'm using is Microdem to view the files, Blackart to clean them from unwanted data and Srtm_to_Bgl to produce the final bgl from the 20 hgt files - the result is quite good, but something unexpected is showing up:At the extreme northern part of the scenery (N32E21) data beyond 32.72 are not present in the bgl: the source hgt does comprehend them, but the final bgl does not, and does not end at N33 as it was supposed to. In tmfviewer as in the sim the bgl terminates with a clear cut at approximately N32.72 degrees? What is this up…

Hithese are great programs and really a lot of fun.I have had great success with 3arc SRTM. I can clean up the data and adjust it with Blackart. Then i can overlay DRG maps for G2k4.what interpolation settings are best for Blackart? Im using 65 and 65, but i read that interpolation can go into the THOUSANDS!One thing thats got me here is the inablity to clean up 1arc SRTM data in Blackart. I get some pretty weird results.i get stripes or bands in the finished product. (I had a pic in the print scrn key, but it dumped) like its smearing the data and then adds black lines spaced evenly across the map.can you clean 1 arc sec in Blackart?SRTMfill is giving less than adequate …

I wondered if anyone knew of a better way to make mesh from GPS maps?I have managed to sort them through Excel and Autocad to DXF, and from there to XYZ format. Then I tried Surfer 8 to make grayscale images, Grises50 and TMF2BGL to make the BGL.The biggest problem is to convert from XYZ to DEM or grayscale.Does anybody know of a cheaper and easier alternativ to Surfer 8?

Hi all:Just came across a few new files in the Avsim library by Jean Gabriel Laurent that state "based on Africa SRTM data". Sure enough, the long-awaited Africa folder is available at the SRTM website; go wild!http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm/pub_dist.htmftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/Africa/Cheers, Holger

I've not been able to find any information about this so a direct question is necessary:although some claim that most mesh made for FS2k (or FS9) works well in CFS2, the contrary seems to be true, at least concerning recent files - most of them display spikes and pillars reaching for the sky at random points, and are thus completely useless in CFS2. This does not depend on the detail of the mesh itself, as the latest 10 LOD mesh of the Rhone basin by Thierry Pignot works fine, while for example the latest meshes by Nanucq or Pietro Mauri all show this feature in CFS2 (obviously not in FS2k). I imagine that there's some difference of format or of whatsoever - which differe…

  13. Hi everybody,Redrawing my greek island i realized that in some places the default (MS) coastline is situated behind the newly drawn coastline. The "new" land is flat because an underlying watermask do not allow mesh-data to be seen. In order to re-mesh this land Holger gave me some recommandations. Can be seen in this post:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=1662&page=I have choosen the solution in which one remove the Area's (LOD13) that are changed in the redrawing process. In order to do that I de-compile the relevant HP9* file with LWMViewer and then go through the resulting BGS-source file. As Holger pointed out this requires knowledge of the struct…

HiI've looked for mesh-data for Greece. I've tried the palace recommended in the SRTM2BGL ReadMe-file... ftp://edcsgs9.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/srtm/I wonder if its the right place for mesh-data when the country is Greece? Looking in the relevant folder for Greece (E020N40) I find a lot of different file-types (extensionnames are DEM, DIF, DMW, HDR, NUM, PRJ, SCH, SRC, STD, STX) and I wonder where the .HGT file which is needed for SRTM2BGL is located?Cheers Lars

Hi All,I am interested in at least trying to understand how all this great scenery works in MSFS. I have downloaded various tools, SDKs, tutorials etc., but to be honest, I am a bit overwhelmed by evertying at the moment. I am sure that I will be able to fugure it all out eventually, but is there a quick start, or any other resource, that would get me up and running ASAP?ThanksStevehttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Hi all you patient mesh-guru's! In Ground2k4 I have redrawn one of the Sporadic islands (Skiathos) in the Aegean Sea from a satelitte photo donated by Holger. By drawing the new coastline I found that the default coastline in FS2004 is not correct. As you can see on the attached pictures the southwest part of Skiathos is in fact missing in the default scenery. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/66281.jpgAnd if I take a look at the same part of Skiathos from the my cessna172 comming in from west it looks like this (the yellow line correspond with the that on the map above):http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/66282.jpgIn order to fill out the missing mesh-data on Skiathos I …

Hi all, I am new to all of this mesh stuff, but I am looking to download mesh for all of Canada and the USA. I was thinking of downloading all of Rob Gainer's 76m for the USA, mixed with Holgers BC Mesh. I do not no if this is the way to go. Any other suggestions? I think I understand that I can use FS2000 and FS2002 mesh as well. There was one site suggested by Holger that had all of the USA in FS2002 format.http://www.simviation.com/fsdterrainusa.htm Do I go this route for FS2204? Then What would I use for Canada and will they blend together. As not to confuse this whole post, I am just asking what you would suggest I do, If you were looking to mesh these complete areas.…

Hi everybody!Recently I had a "trip" in FS2004 flying over different islands in greece. What I primarily missed was a more autenthic look of these islands. It was the villages and roads on the islands that was not there properly. The mesh terrain was very fine. And in order to solve this "great problem of mine" (or maybe better - find a new time-consuming interest ;-)) I tried to research for programs that was able to add the missing villages etc to the islands. I found Ground2K4 and a living discussion in the AVSIM's "MSFS Scenery Design Forum". Holger provided a satelitte photo for the Sporadic Island, and I began to try the Ground2K4 program out. After a while I was ab…

Recently I have been reading all the posts and counter-posts relating to Mr. Gainer's freeware mesh files. In this post I want to share some lessons I learned when I first played with the idea of releasing large areas of mesh using SRTM data.My first project was small... 4 tiles of SRTM data centered around KCHO where I live. I was so pleased with myself, that I immidiately began downloading all the SRTM data I could get my hands on. Unfortunately, or fortunately whichever way you look at it, TMFViewer showed me all the voids and errors in the SRTM data I was using. I'm not an expert, and I don't know how to use DEM data of a different type to patch the voids. So I'm limi…

Hi, I'm attempting to produce a bgl for Malta from SRTM data, but unfortunately no files for the adiacent tiles are available (with good reasons I reckon, as the areas cover stretches of bare sea). SRTM_to_BGL requires alas two adiacent tiles: how to, then? Is there a way to empty an existing tile for another area and then rename it, or...?Giorgio
