I have UK VFR Terrain and freeware mesh for France and I notice that in both regions now I can see the squares of the mesh itself where I am sure I could not do so only a couple of days ago. Does anyone have an idea why this would be?Mykk

I've produced some LOD11 mesh scenery - everything looks ok, but when I taxi my aircraft over it (ok, so I like to see the wheel struts compress - so what ;) ), it sinks, sometimes all the way in, into the scenery...it eventually emerges, rolling properly across the terrain, only to sink again. Is there anything about LOD11 scenery that causes this? I'm thinking, perhaps the actual terrain limits are defined on a lower LOD level, maybe LOD9?Thanks for any insight...

Hi,I used Ferranti's DEM's to create a mesh for the Faroes Islands. I did several inter- and extrapolations, I up- and downsampled to several LOD's to get just the right look for those fine islands. Using Microdem and the 2000 and 2004 SDK's. Everything went fine, except for one thing:The mesh just does not show on the very small islands. One islands is app. 1 km squared, so there should be many elevations points (up to 400 m), and it shows up just fine in the different DEM readers, and (as bgl)in the TMF viewer. But not in the sim, even if all sliders are at maximum and mo matter what value I use for TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL. I have tried all possible (?) combinations, w…

Hi all,in case you haven't seen my thread about some of the new freeware mesh files of the Alps and Himalayas:I recently came across an amazing resource for FS mesh designers, created and provided free of charge by Jonathan de Ferranti: http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/The main foucs of Jonathan's project is to replace those SRTM tiles with major holes (void data) with new tiles generated from various mapping series. In addition, areas N of 60 degrees are provided in the same data format as SRTM.This is a wonderful gift to anyone working with DEM data, including us, and I encourage you to use these data for your own projects. If you do, please send Jonathan an email and…

Inspired by the thread http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search I have downloaded the mesh for the Gibraltar area (http://www.simtours.net/mesh/gibraltar.zip) and made a configuration file (http://www.simtours.net/mesh/gibraltar.inf). When I compile the mesh with resample.exe from the SDK I get a file where the mesh doesn't show up in FS and likewise I get an "Failed To Open" error in TmfViewer when opening the bgl-file. If I change the value of NumOfCellsPerLine and NumOfLines in the configuration file to e.g. 10 times the values I get a bgl-file that can be opened in TmfViewer. The size of the raw data file is 13.104 bytes which is just 2 * Lat * Lon…

Hi all.Well, I've see some promotional stuff for the next version of FS. Screenies look great, but I'm still unclear about backward compatability, especially as it relates to scenery design. I understand that SCASM coded objects would not be compatable, but what other features of scenery design that are in the current utilities do have to worry about? Are there scenery design elements (eg, VTP polys, LC, etc) that we won't be able to use in FS10? Are there some tools that won't make it across, or some BGLs that won't work in FS10?Any thoughts?Cheers,Matthew.

Greetings,I just went through a period of trouble that resulted from an AF2 file being altered and therefore sending bogus info to another program. I deleted the the file and the problem went away.My question is: How many AFCAD or AF2 files should I have for one airport? It seems one should be enough. Is there a functional difference between AFCAD and AF2? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,Sorry but I have not posted in this forum before ....Why, oh, why is it, that when yet another supposedly wonderful mesh terrain project is announced by FSGeneis via the AVSIM front page, I cannot get to see any screenshots of it ?Its frustrating as well as being just plain bad service to announce a major scenery product such as this - and then prohibit anyone from seeing what it actually looks like!Don't get me wrong - I have the greatest respect for companies like FSGenesis and Justin who do a lot of work to make FS a great "place" to fly in. But each time FSGenesis announce a mesh on the AVSIM news page, I can never, no matter how hard I try, get to see any images…

Hi Peter,On your specified webpage, you could zoom in your target image window to a decent level of detail, then right click the resulting image and choose "Save Image As" in FireFox or "Save Picture As" in Internet Explorer to save the jpeg to disk. Remember to either set your bitmap editor to non-compressed and/or non-lossy jpeg format, or export a copy to another format (ex. BMP or TIF) to avoid degradation of the jpeg due to losses each time you save your downloaded original and work files.I have spent vast amounts of time struggling to paste photos together with variable results until I read about a fabulous freeware program called "USAPhotoMaps"; it allows downloa…

(trying to convert CDED1 data)Hello, I'm new to the forum and relatively new to scenery design. I'll try to make my problem as clear as possible so you experienced MESH designers don't have to spend too much time rolling your eyes at my newbie mistakes.NOTE: I have updated this posting since the first submission, see bottom of post.First of all, I have started out with DEM files, I obtained these from here http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/data/cded1.html the specs for the files are here http://www.geobase.ca/doc/specs/pdf/GeoBas..._CDED1_v2_1.pdf but i will post header information to avaoid reading a long PDF.I have used these dem files before and therfore know they work…

Folks, I want to reposition some generic buildings off the coast of Maui.I am using UT USA, and 38mesh. UT allows user to turn on switch to remove buildings that are out of place. Also Quantumleap has his repositioning project on the go but I want to "fix" up Maui a bit and would like to reposition some of the default hotels buildings that are out in the ocean.Which tools do I use to locate the buildings and move them?

Hello Everyone,Here is the problem.Imagine having a very nice non-default high-resolution terrain mesh (e.g. compiled using 1 arc sec SRTM data) for a specific region (e.g. Washington State). Then imagine having a few very good payware sceneries in the same region (e.g. Emma Field). But these payware sceneries (their landclasses, 3D-objects, water-bodies) are made for default terrain mesh and do not have their own one, and when you install your custom mesh, they look weird (if not to say awful). Here is my idea: is it possible to make a "hole" in the custom mesh exactly in the place where this payware scenery is located, so that everywhere around this place there would be …

First, pardon any repetition: I very significantly decreased the amount of time dedicated to this hobby over the past couple of years and I don't follow closely the forums any longer. For some time now I have been bothered by the rounded appearance of earth representation in MFS. It tends to look like some underwater landscape. Consequently, I have been toying with the idea of improving this aspect. Of course, a tighter mesh would theoretically do the trick but the definition would have to be so tiny that it would not work. Rather, I'm thinking about some sort of fractal correction/addition implemented when the slope increases beyond a certain level. A mathematical exagger…

Hello Guys, I was wondering if anybody knows the FS9 Mesh BGL file format. I would appreciate if somebody could help me out. My email is [email protected]: I finally looked at the FS2004 Terrain SDK. I see that the BLG file format is explained, but I am not interested in textures, just the actual mesh data(altitude). Unfortunately that is not documented.Thank you very much in advance.Sincerely,Tiberiu
