Hi all. I was wondering if someone can guide me in the right direction. I need to find the highest spot elevations within a prescribed area. I know google earth has somethign where i can place my mouse and it will tell me the elevation where my cursor is BUT i would like to drag a box for example of say 10km by 10km and have it tell the the highest spot elevation within that area. Would REALLY appreciate your help on this one! thxJack

  3. Has anyone had any experiences from the new 30 m FSX mesh for Europe made by Taburet? As stock FSX scenery as well as the commercially available ones are 78 m there should be a noticeable difference for the better. Is there really one?Thank you in advance,Alex

Hi all,the oversampling bringing denser result from given source was already often discussed here. The standard steps are well known, at least as resize in the graphic tools. The equivalent functions as resize, sharpen and other are available also for elevation data in professional terrain software and some were introduced here in free programs, as Microdem, BlackArt and Slartibartfast. I want offer here for testing my very small utility Vera specialized for only one case. For some areas there the better elevation data as SRTM 3s is already available, but for big piece of the Earth there the SRTM 3s is still the best source. The original 1s datasets were not released excep…

HelloI just compiled a bgl using ASTER file , but the results are not what i was expecting . The resulting mesh file was somehow flatish . The only thing i can think of that might have gone wrong is probably some of the arguments in the .inf file that the resampler is using may have to change if you are using a 30m source file . im using an example .inf file and im changing the applicable fields specific to the file im creating . Since im using an aster file the numofCellsPerLine and NumOfLines changed to 3601.The CellXDimensionDeg and CellYDimensionDeg may have to be changed (the example file was for a 90m source file) but i dont know the value to be placed .Any one know…

Hello! I have recently been souping up the Killeen, TX airport (KGRK) and trying to make it look like what it looks like in real life (it is empty on FS).And anyways, in real life there in a large hill that is right next to the airport and on the game it is all flat around the airport. Can you please tell me how to create a simple hill or give me links that can get me started? Thanks! Btw, my OS is Vista (if that means anything) and I am trying to create this hill for FS2004.

Hello, after installing a mesh scenery I recogniced that lot of airports are no higher than the surrounding terrain. Many airports are now located on a small plateau. Is there any solution to either minimise the elevation difference ore to exclude this differences? Many thanks for help

When creating a mesh file from from what seems to be a correct DEM file ,a specific area in the scenery contains weirdly a 'hole' where a slopping mountain side is suppose to exist. The following pictures demonstrate the issue.SIM RESULT 1 and 2 show screenshots in FSX of how that mountain side is missing a semicircular chunk. Picture named 'dam hill' is a picture of the place in real life and the area missing in FSX is the part in shade from the top left part of the mountain.Picture 'GE TOPDOWN'' is from google earth for a top down perspective. Now the following picture named 'MICRODEM TOPDOWN' is a screenshot from MicroDEM software with the DEM file at that location …

I am making a scenery for EGAD (Newtownards, UK) in FS9. The default runways are misaligned and I have corrected these. I have made the landclass more realistic - in the default scenery this small Irish town looked like Manhattan. Soon I will add some airfield scenery objects from one of the scenery libraries. Just to the NW of the airfield there is a dramatic 500 ft (170 m) hill - in geology-speak it is a 'volcanic plug'. This steep hill is completely missing in FS9 although in real world it dominates the airfield. In addition, in RW there is a 140 ft tower on the top and I have a scenery object for this (Gridley) ready to place..... when I have a hill to put it on :( I…

From a paper map with scale 1:100000, find points of Trigonometry (GRADING POINTS / POINTS OF SUPPORT: THEY ARE CHOSEN IN POSTS WHICH ALLOW A GOOD VISIBILITY IN A WIDE RADIUS. ARE CHOSEN WITH CARE AND RECORDED WITH SIGNIFICANT ACCURACY. ), Then the altitude of much more precise value of the DEM (SRTM3 version2). :( Well you can with FSDEM through Operations \ Elevations Value Change "You can replace by any other value every occurrence of a specific elevation value, on the whole mesh or on the current selection. Enter the original and the new elevation values in their respective boxes. The program will replace all occurrences of the original value by the new value. " The p…

For the life of me, I can't find any applications that'll let me look at and manipulate heightmap data files. Ideally, I want something that can convert between DEM, HGT and RAW. Google just seems to bring up forums with people editing heighmaps for specific games. This isn't for flightsim, but this is the only place I could think of that might have someone who knew.Yeeeeaaars ago I posted on here under another username, the login info for which is long gone, asking about heightmaps and was directed to an application that let me combine heightmap files and use a low-res one to repair holes in a messy, but hires one I had, but I can't find it at all now. Hi,It's already a long time ago, but I remember me a tool for making langscapes. This tool consist of a drawing display where you could draw on a black area and the more you draw the whiter the image became. So you got a grayscale image. By rendering you could see the result as a 3D landscape. Can someone tell me in which program that was possible ?Greetz. Jos

Hi,Have surfed along numerous threads and sites in de hope to find a solution. For exemple: grises50 needs the resample.exe from Terrain SDK FS2002 (= less buggy than the other versions they say). I found a link... but still no success. It seems I need the right version and I have tried them all.Maybe someone can send me the right software in total so that I can see if that works also for me. Can someone explain the .raw file thing (is the use of Paint Shop Pro 7 enough or must it be a recent version.... and what about the .inf file ?). Many questions.Anny suggestions ?Greetz. Jos

Hi Justin,World Mesh (FSX) patched to ver. 1.2Could you please tell me which of the Microsoft Flight Simulator XScenery areas covers the UK, specifically Scotland? The reason I ask is that I am currently helping the author of Scotflight do some compatibility testing with UTX-Europe. I have noted some ground polygon texture bleedthrough at several runways/airstrips in Scotland. Unfortunately, so far it appears I am the only one affected and I am trying to determine why this is the case.I have found that by reducing my Mesh Resolution from 10m (where the problem shows) to 76m (default) the problem goes away. However, others don't see the problem at 10m which is why I am look…

Hello all fellow pilotsHere in Montreal we have an important stretch of highway which spans over about 4 miles, the Decarie Highway. This is particular in the sense that it is below level land. Basically they dug right down and put it below. It is not covered (tunnel) Decarie blvd which runs parallel to it on both sides (like a service road) is on ground level. Going from one side to the other, the overpasses stay flat as the highway is below ground level. I would like to do this. How would I go about doing it (FSX or FS9) Do I need to modify the mesh? or a poly? Please help as this would open doors to all those intersections who go below ground rather than having an over…

Recently the TanDEM-X satellites were launched which is basically a pair of srtm style satellites which will map the earth constantly with radar...Looking forward to seeing basically srtm data at about 5-15m horizontal spacing being available in future...Hopefully with a full time SRTM style pair of satellites up there high res terrain for the whole earth will one day be available...Only thing is, I wonder how much their pricing will be once the data starts flowing through, how processed will the data be, how many holes and voids? Being that it's twin satellites I believe they have said a lot of the voids can be eliminated, so we'll see what happens in coming years...I k…
