  1. I Have a new machine coming tomorrow and will of course set FSX up on it. On my present Win 7 64 bit system I have FSX in D:/Fsx. Shall I set the new system up with that arrangement or let it install in the default directory on C: Suggestions? Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2

  2. Its almost the weekend! So I'm looking for my next payware purchase, looking for suggestions, opinions and mini reviews! My criteria. Quality Payware a must! General aviation, not looking for an tube-liner or self loading freight hauler... Good solid IFR panel, no space shuttle cockpits, with more gizmo-trons than the Star Ship Enterprise. I'd like a single engine piston, but would entertain a piston twin. No whirly birds... not into them.

  3. I don't know how many of you have felt my pain - but I'm betting its a big number of fellow pilots! I have been grappling with terrible frames in FSX - even on a 'high end' system, and have spent innumerable hours on this - robbing me of sleep, sanity and peace of mind! The usual suspects were under the microscope, including NVidia Inspector, the GTX580 drivers, ******* (Mary and Joseph) Bojote's Venetubo site, and a lot of good advice from across the web and right here on AVSIM. SOMEHOW I finally got suspicious of Ultimate Terrain X (UTX) after reading about issues caused by "night lighting" and "cars" in said program. I tried the instant disable feature of U…

We were flying online the other night and my mate Rolf said "The skid marks on the default runways are too 'intense', is there a way of reducing them?" "Duh, dunno" I said. Anyone have any idea if it's possible. I have to say that he's now made me see runways in a totally different light. They're doing my head in now!

So with a multitude of great developers for FSX, why are some huge, busy, famous and overall great airports being completely overlooked? Europe's mostly got it covered, with a great London, Madrid, Paris, Lisbon, Vienna, Amsterdam and an OK Frankfurt, mostly covered by Aerosoft, and North America is pretty OK, with relatively new NY, LA, DFW, Miami, Chicago and Tampa sceneries being covered by FT and FSDT, however Atlanta could really use a rework. As well, Asia is a totally undeveloped market, only covered slightly by ImagineSim, although their techniques are pretty dated. For example Beijing and Dubai are some of the largest and busiest airports anywhere. As well Shangh…

  7. Hello, I understand in Shader 3 for FSX tweaking the <fwavebumpuvscale> to lower numbers will give you a calmer sea. I am using REX sparkling and I love it for ocean and lower altitudes but for lakes and or high altitudes it is too, well, shall I say sparking and rough. Most other REX wave animations are causing ugly star reflections at night and I would like to stick with sparkling for other reasons as well. So I notice in the waterconstants.xml there are 3 of the same wavebumpuvscales under each of the 3 different altitudes all with different numbers. I fugured if anyone has done this, then do they all need to go down in number for calmer seas? I wonder why th…

I'd like to have the choice between 2 installs ... An Orbx FSX install and a GEX/UTX/SceneryTech install. Why ... in some PNW areas I prefer the performance and appearance of one over the other. I did a fresh install of Acceleration, then backed up the full FSX directory. Then I installed Orbx and VancouverPlus3. Was thinking now to rename that top level directory of the Orbx install as FSXinactive, and restore my backed up original FSX directory then install GEX ,UTX on top of it. Then I would have 2 FSX installs and could hopefully switch by simply renaming top level of the active and inactive one. Will that work, or does FSX save key info outsid…

I'm having to select many digits on RXP 530/430W with the new patch. For instance... it will be 120.400 120.405 120.410 120.415 etc etc - this only happens on the COMM.. Any ideas?

I have run into a problem when loading FSX and getting an “unhandled exception error” after the crash with a lot of detail associated with the message. It appears that it has something to do with Net.Framework. FSX started crashing after loading scenery on start up, which the scenery never appeared on the screen. I decided to allow windows to restore the system back a few days before this problem occurred. After system restore I now receive “sorttbls.net or one of its dependencies not found”. FSX is now unable to reach the startup screen. I then used the repair feature in windows for the Net.framework4.0, which didn't help. I also notice when I try to use the catal…

I want to fly real flight routes from flightaware.com. Yesterday I flew KJFK-KTPA from the websites route, but FSX doesn't show that route so I constantly get ATC telling me to turn a certain heading or different altitudes than what my SID or STAR chart states. Is there anyway to use FSX ATC in a real life manner so I can still do all the radio calls etc? Or do I have to use VATSIM since ATC follows my filed plan?

Guys, I no longer use MSFSX, but have FLIGHT and have reported at least one bug with FLIGHT's piston engine model, namely the fact that, on variable-pitch prop equipped aircraft in FLIGHT, varying Prop RPM has no influence on Manifold Pressure (MP). For a test I get the airplane at level flight, say 4000', cruise settings, MP not firewalled, and then cycle the Prop lever. I don't recall if this bug was inherited from FSX, so, can someone please report here if varying Prop RPM affects MP in FSX default aircraft? It should be: - Reducing Prop RPM increases MP - Increasing Prop RPM reduces MP PLEASE ONLY DEFAULT MSFSX AIRCRAFT (C182 or the Mooney and Maule w…

Hello, I'm suffering two crucial issues that make flying in FSX somewhat awful. The first issue is that I'm suffering CTDs very often. It actually does not happen suddenly during the flight, but everytime I'm accessing the menu FSX crashes. For example, I was flying without any issue the other day when I accidentally pressed 1 in the ATC window and the menu for a new flight plan opened. Then I pressed cancel and FSX immediately crashed. The second issue is the frame rate. I can actually fly with pretty good fps, but as soon as I use a scenery for a big airport like FSDreamteam's New York JFK, the fps instantly drop and become awful. Today I was taxiing at New Yor…

  16. Just a head's up folks,...it seems you need to 'verify' your purchase order number on the REX forums to be sent a link to the update when it gets released. I didn't know this, but only found out by visiting the Rex Forum site today. So, if you are expecting this to land....onto your 'pute, you need apparently to do this.

  17. [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460.0.0] Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 Mode=1680x1050x32 I have all of a sudden been getting occasional black screen crashes where sometimes I can open the task manager and click on FSX and save it and other times I get the fatal error CTD. Happens occasionally when switching screens and happened out of the blue on approach into KIWA today. I do not know why there would be 2 of these entries in my cfg but this could be the cause? No?

  18. So! My birthday is coming up and my lovely wife is chasing for gift ideas. I am almost 100% sure I would like something to expand my flight sim (FSX only) experience - but can't quite decide what. So far I have narrowed it down to the following options: 1) Track IR. Ever since I heard of it I have been mulling over making a purchase. It seems to be a real "marmite" product - you either love it or hate it! I do already have EZCA, so... 2) A proper yoke. Currently using a Logitech 3D which is a great stick, but lacks the "certain something" I imagine a proper yoke offers. 3) Complete Horizon VFR UK scenery + Airports. Earth Simulations are doing a pretty g…

Hi everybody, I have reinstalled FSX (new computer) and i have 2 problems. First one is that i can't load my saved flight without having a CTD. (FSX does not respond) If i choose a mission and then one of my saved flight it works. Second problem, some textures are missing. I load a flight and all things are there but when landing at the destination airport i can see through the airplane (in external view) and also through few buildings. Once i could see through the aircraft panel. I don't know if both problems are related. Need your help guys. Thank you.

  23. Hi guys, hopefully you can help me out. I installed REX Overdrive, chose my themes to install, installed them, and went through the whole procedure of setting it up. When I started up the game, I saw default airport textures and default cloud textures that looked nothing like the themes that I selected on REX. I did see that the sky and water textures were improved, but the clouds and airports were not. I tried reinstalling the themes multiple times with no results. All I can think of is maybe this add-on called "FSX booster" that I have which tweaks the FSX.cfg to improve FPS. However, in the FSX booster settings I enabled " High Definition textures (REX etc.)" so i'…

Different developers recommend a couple different ways to best run their aircraft the first time; 1. load a simple default plane first, 2. do NOT load a default plane first, or 3. doesn't matter What's the recommended iFly method?
